First time diner and now I'm kicking myself for not having tried sooner! The food and service were outstanding. Our waiter, Mark, was attentive and helpful, explaining the difference between certain dishes, etc. The Gorgonzola gnocchi were the best I've ever had so far. I'll definitely be back again...
What a remarkable evening! I read mixed reviews. I am so glad I didn't listen to any of the less positive ones. We were greeted by a smiling host(ess) and were seated at a lovely table. Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. The entrees were absolutely delicious and more than adequate portions.
I am rarely one to complain, but everything about this experience did not live up to expectations. We were a group of 8 that were going to dinner to celebrate 3 birthdays at the table. In the notes for the reservation, I had mentioned that we had a 7pm reservation and needed to be completed by 8:30pm because we had to get to a surprise party later that night, in honor of one of the dinner guests. It was clear that NO ONE read this note. We were one of 3 tables in the restaurant, this timeline should not have been an issue. When we arrived we were promptly seated, and ordered a bottle of red wine. I order bottles often, and usually try to pick something that is available by the glass so that I can taste it first. The wine menu did not have ANY wines by the glass that they also serve by the bottle, so I used my best judgement and ordered a bottle of Montepulciano. When the server opened the bottle and poured a taste. It tasted like vinegar, and was impossible to drink. When I told him this, he said "we just got the delivery on Friday, and that's the wine you chose, we have to charge you for it. "
After some discussion with the manager, they decided to take the bottle off of the bill.
Approx 1hr 15 min later, entrees arrived. At this point, the time was 8:15, and I had been very clear about wanting to leave by 8:30. I even mentioned this to the server when we arrived, just in case they didnt see the note on the reservation. Entrees were fine for the most part, but the "guest of honors" chicken parmesan was completely raw and pink inside. He had to send it back to be remade. This should be a quick fix.... but by the time his new entree came out, everyone else was finished, and it was almost 9pm. We had to rush out, skip dessert and any celebrating to get to the surprise party, and overall, the dinner experience just put a damper on a great night. I would NOT go back to La Veranda ever again.
Excellent food and service. I love Italian food and it was a special occasion
V-day dinner. Reception was outstanding. Food was good. ambient is outdated. pretty old look. they should have had planned more staff. I was not in a rush so i was a little ok with it.
I loved this place. The food was awesome and the service was professional. I will be coming back next time I'm in town.
Pleasantly surprised at the quality of dishes and service. The one dish that stood out was the grilled calimari. Never have I had such tender octopus.
Went on Saturday night for dinner with friends. Good food, good service ,great atmosphere
Love this place. A quiet spot at penns landing with great views and ambiance. Food was incredible from the specials to the everyday fettuccini Alfredo all 6 of our meals were fabulous.
Server Mo was awesome. Thank u
It was New Year's Eve. The restaurant did not offer the normally exceptional menu but a very limited, poorly executed, and unappealing food disaster. Service was uneven. Only one meal of 7 total meals served came out as expected. One meal was not cooked at all except for the burnt outside of the lamb. It was sent back twice. The veal was tasteless and the crab meat in that meal was minimal. Don't think you can even taste another person's appetizer as the portions were so small. I emailed the restaurant to give them my feedback and not even the courtesy of an email back.
Special Limited Menu for New Years Eve was not advertised on OT but staff was very accommodating with excellent service. We will return.
Have been to this restaurant about 20 times over the past 10 years. Have not gone in over a year.
As soon as I walked in I noticed the staff had changed. This is my last and final trip, was pretty bad. Never have been to an Italian restaurant that didn't include olive oil in their entrees, food was very bland. The seafood salad, had pickled onions in it, no clams, no mussels, no olive oil, was very poor. Linguini with clams was over saturated in butter, again no olive oil. What once used to be a traditional Italian restaurant doesn't exist. You could get a better meal at one of the chain Italian restaurants. The only bright spot was it's bruschetta, was delicious.
Our waitress was attentive and not intrusive. The meals were delicious. Overall great experience.
We went to Penns Landing for adult time, we decided to have a date night and found that this restaurant was directly across the street from the hotel we stayed at. Server was perfect, the perfect amount of interaction, didn't interfere with our time together and no awkward interactions when your mouth is full of food to ask if we needed anything LOL. Food was authentic and delish, Wife got clams in white wine sauce and I had fettuccine Alfredo with crab meat. Both well worth it, fairly priced and over the top with taste.
My only complaint and reason for not having 5 star review is as follows - when we got our seat there was a few couples of older folks enjoying each others time, looked like they had been friends for MANY years, rather loud which was okay by us because it wasn't disturbing our meal any nor our ability to enjoy our time together. What became frustrating is one of the men at the able continued to go on about how he was mad about the amount of coffee in his cup. He went on and on about the coffee, that it became frustrating to sit there and listen to the loud convo about how to serve coffee and how other companies serve coffee.
OVERALL a great experience and will return if we are in the area again.
The foos was delicious. My wife has been talking about wanting to go for years. It was her birthday . She loved the surprise.
Amazing service, quality food, great dining Experience .
Great food and service and beautiful view of the river.
Great service. Friendly staff. Scrumptious food. Good times!
I must admit I was disappointed. It seemed to promise a lot. The service and attention was great but the food was disappointing, just not yo to standard and therefore felt overpriced.
Extremely poor service. No server came to our table to see if anything was needed (until it was time to give us the check).
I don't know where to begin! Arrived to $21 valet parking which consisted of moving the car three feet on the street. Dress code is casual dressy-others in jeans and flip-flops?? We were told our party was waiting but they were not there.
A women who spoke little English directed me to the kitchen!
We spent 2 1/2 hours there with unbelievably slow service. The waitress was unconcerned and hard to understand. I asked for chicken marsala and pasta, but she did not write down the chicken marsala. I left hungry. She took the order on scraps of paper.
My husband's filet mignon did not get served until everyone else was almost finished eating. She blamed it on the kitchen.
We had two children with us and no attempt was made to move any faster.
Another group came in after us and was served and gone before us.
Their waiter came over and cut the birthday cake and thank God he did or we would still be sitting there.
It was not even crowded. No apology from management for the mixups.
She disappeared with my credit card for about 15 minutes.
Reservations at 6 P.M. and done at 8:30! Ridiculous- never again. Tried to have a special birthday but got aggravation and disappointment!
I have been going to La Veranda for over 30 years and it is always my restaurant of choice to impress clients especially from out of town. The atmosphere and quality of the food and personal attention is unmatched in the City.
We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary and were a party of 9. The whole evening was just perfect from beginning to end. Our waiter, Mark, added to our pleasant evening.
Will be returning more often than in the past.
Didn't find one fault. :)
I have been in bad restaurants but this one top them. The waitress has no idea what was in the menu. The Italian antipasto had pepperoni instead salami and bologna instead mortadella. It is suppose to be an Italian restaurant. The pasta was over cooked and the sauce disgusting. The crime brûlée was cold and shrunk probable in the refrigerator for many days. The only good thing was the wine. They should close this place. Please do not go.....
Service was terrible and has changed from previous ownership. This was once a fine restaurant which is now patron ed by people wearing jeans and t shirt on a Saturday night. Would never go back.
I've been coming to this place since the early 90s and have never had a bad meal here. Having said that, it looks like they've whacked a lot of their menu sometime during the past year. Many of my old favorites are gone - like the octopus salad and the cold mixed seafood appetizer. Food was still good. Just not as good as I remembered.
What a lovely "find" on the waterfront at Penn's Landing. My husband and I walked to La Veranda from our Hilton hotel. We were greeted warmly and seated immediately. We opted to be seated indoor but had the weather been cooperative, the outdoor seating would have been beautiful. We were served a delicious focaccia bread and seasoned dipping oil while our orders were being taken. I ordered the branzino which was expertly deboned tableside resulting in a delicately prepared dish with sautéed veggies (carrots, zucchini, yellow squash & potato) which complimented the meal perfectly. My husband ordered the veal parmigiana which he thoroughly enjoyed. Our server Susan was helpful in making our choices and was delightfully personable without being intrusive. We would definitely return to La Veranda next time we're in Philadelphia.
Wierd and awkward hostess/server
Waiter was on point
Food was too much but really flavorful
Food was mediocre, but the service and ambiance were great.
Amazing! The food...the service....the cost.....everything.... Truly a hidden gem....
Very nice and accommodating service. Great food, fantastic pasta.
Overall the food was just OK however we did order a dish which included fig. The dish was served without this and we were never told nor offered something different. Upon asking the server about the missing ingredient, we were told that they had run out . Since this was a key component of the dish.... it did not taste as intended. What was more frustrating is that we were never alerted and given the option to order something else. If the restaurant ran out.... that is OK. When they knowingly run out and attempt to serve the dish and not alert the customer...... that is poor.
Dinner was excellent! Our party of 4 had Veal, Chicken, Seafood and dessert. Everyone enjoyed the freshness of the meal and the presentation! We will be back!
There was no parking for this restaurant . . . . until we got to the front doors & saw the sign saying valet parking - why put it up the stairs in front of main door & not on sidewalk near street??? Worst Mojito I ever had!!!! Calamari was good - boyfriend had fettuccine & crabmeat - tasted great! I had the veal Saltiboca - horrible! The sauce was purple & lumpy - came w/ roasted potatoes- not sure if they were really potatoes.
We had a great time the food was excellent and our waiter was wonderful. The hostess make sure everything was good through out the evening.
Went there with my friend for her 50th birthday. Quiet, just the two of us. Snagged a seat by the river and ordered up some fried calamari which I ordered from looking at the reviews. And yes, they were living up to their reputation. Crisp and light were hard not to eat like potato chips.
I ordered the dover sole for dinner and was not disappointed. It was deboned table-side and it was as fresh as it gets. Light and airy with some spring vegetables on the side. I am not really sure what my friend ordered, I think it was a chicken dish. We had a great conversation, in which we could actually hear ourselves. Mind you it was early on a Saturday afternoon so it may not have been as crowded yet, which was fine with us. Our server was prompt and courteous, yet not over-bearing. If you haven't try the place, you should. If you live in Philly tip: (we ubered there simply because they were charging way to much for valet) Or even visiting the city.
Great environment, good homemade pasta, beautiful view of the waterand Marina, it is quiet to enjoy conversation with friends. We sat outside next to the water but you can also sit inside. There is room for large groups. The service was amazing. Get treated like a five star restaurant, but come in your comfortable clothes. Easy walk to Penns Landing. We ate here before a concert. Food amount is a good size but maybe small for big eaters. They also have a large wine selection and full bar.
New to Philly and Penns Landing. I think this restaurant is a great place for quality food and a great atmosphere!
Service was excellent and wait staff allowed us time to talk and eat leisurely.
Food was delicious and the ambiance of the river and boats in the background along with the city night life made for a wonderful evening.
