La Veranda Osteria Ratings and Reviews
I was a little disappointed this time, the Caesar salad was flavourless and very pale looking romaine lettuce
Small portion of meat ravioli, good filling and flavour
Lasagna was a super large portion but so hot I couldn't eat it till everyone was finished
Why do restaurants salt everything so heavily, you can't take the salt out but you can add salt according to individual taste.
Very average food, gigantic menu
I doubt I'll be returning
Great restaurant with an extensive menu, lots of good choices to choose from. The only frustrating thing is how they cannot split the bill because they have a very old system. Either one person pays the whole bill, or they give you a calculator to figure it out for yourself. They need to upgrade their system so they can split the bill into 2 or 3, especially for large groups of friends.
The service was one of the worst I have experienced. I had to ASK for bread. The wait time for our meal was very long. I had to ASK the waiter for a drink ... he never asked if I wanted anything. I was never asked if I wanted a second drink when I finished the first. NO refills asked for coffee.
My meal was sub-par. Ordered the veal marsala with mushroom sauce. FIVE mushroom pieces. The vegetables were mushy and without taste.
Now that we no longer live in Toronto, we miss many of our fave dining spots, particularly La Veranda. So on our rare trips there to visit friends, we try to steer the dinner plans toward our fave west-end Italian spot. Always delicious food, excellent service, and a great ambience. I lean toward preferring to dine indoors, but can be lured outdoors to their patio, as it is one of the most sheltered and pretty you could ask for on a busy street. But for those muffer-less motorbikes, my friend and I could hear each other easily. And ladies - it has a TRUE "restroom", worth a visit in itself. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!
Enjoyed the outdoor patio with flowers. LOVE FLOWERS!! The food was ok, ( however some ingredients were missing from the pasta dish we ordered. The server brought the missing ingredients when we notified him I'm Italian and also cook very well so meh..
Still a lovely place, will try other things on menu.

We had 6 people for a family dinner. Apps were great . Table location was good .
We ordered our dinner and 2 of the meals were wrong . After our dinner our waiter seemed
to disappear. We had to ask if we could order dessert and coffee and for the bill. We had to ask for packages to put out leftovers in. The staff seemed more interested in closing than severing even though they were still open for another 30 minutes. I have been there many times and
this was the first time this has happened.
This restaurant was a bit further away for me, but the reviews and photos enticed me to try it out. And boy are we glad we did! We sat on the patio, and it was just so unique, being surrounded by so many lovely well kept flowers. And the food was unquestionably delicious. Totally worth the drive, and I can't wait to go back! Caution: wknt evening, the patio noise level was loud, simply because your streetside to the transit line with buses passing often. That was the one and only downfall.
I ordered shrimp with linguine in rose sauce. The shrimp just appeared to be boiled, not seared or grilled. The rose sauce was salty and just sauce, no herbs. They do not serve fresh parmesan, only ground. They also have an extensive list of rules if you want to make any substitutions, basically they are not allowed. Very inflexible. My 2 other dinner partners were not impressed either.
Have been many times. Food is terrific. Manicotti was incredibly hot and tasty. Enough Caesar salad for four. We were there on a rather busy night but we were never made to feel that we had to hurry. Reasonable $$. Will certainly be back when the patio opens.
Always enjoy a good meal and friendly service. People are very nice and take care of any request you have. Appetizers and meal were delicious. THe dessert menu says "imported from Italy" I would prefer something home made or fresh made. Other than that, always an enjoyable evening.
This is a good neighbourhood Italian restaurant. They have too many tables and it's just too noisy. It actually got to the point where I couldn't hear the people at my own table.
I would recommend this restaurant for food and the service was good too but definitely don't go if you want a quiet evening
We decided to have a pizza night and were dissappointed on how salty all 4 pizzas ordered were. For the price and quality of the food we would not recommend the pizzas. Although the service was excellent, having 4 people wait on us was probably not needed. Still would go back. Nice relaxing night out. Friendly service.
La Veranda was my personal favourite in the west end of Toronto when they first opened. It seems that the quality and care in food prep has diminished. The service is very good, but can not make up for the lack of care in quality and presentation.
This is not meant to be a bad review, just a statement.
The grilled vegetables quantity was lacking. We were expecting a full plate but go salad underneath. I do not recall if menu stated that this dish was on a bet of greens. If we had known we would not have purchased a salad. The pappadelle all mare with a Rose sauce was good.
I have stayed away from this restaurant for quite some time but went again recently due to its convenient location next to the subway. I doubt I will return. Just little things that lack a certain finesse and the restaurant seems to feel that they are doing their patrons a favour. The menu is quite emphatic to the point of pretentious about no changes or substitutions to menu items. Not very customer service oriented that's for sure. Pros secco was served in a red wine glass and the server was not terribly knowledgable about things. I find it ridiculous that a small topping of Parmesan on a salad warrants an extra charge....around 3.95 I believe.....absurd.
A Kir Royal was a full $4 more than a glass of prossecco.....for what....a splash of colour.
Very overpriced for the quality of food and service offered. This is a neighbourhood bistro that thinks it is more and charges dearly for it.
The gnocchi here is amazing! I had the pesto version and it was to die for! My boyfriend had the rose version and his was also good, but cold..
The only thing we were disappointed about was that we had gone on Valentine's Day for the lunch special, but they told us that they weren't offering it that day. I completely understand that they weren't offering it for the holiday, but they should have mentioned it when I made the reservation...They also had a giant sign in front of the restaurant promoting the lunch special the week prior. We were extremely unhappy about this.
Overall though, the food was amazing, even if it isn't what we originally went for.
