La Vecchia Fontana Ratings and Reviews
Another good meal at LaVecchia. Great pastas and seafood risotto was enjoyed by all. Service was good and reasonably well-paced. Wish there was a way to soften the noise level. The best and most consistent Italian food in Avalon. Love the fact that they stay open most of the year. We applaud it for doing that.
Good local restaurant. Not too busy when we arrived but got very busy. Seemed like only 2 waiters working who were very busy. It is byob which is great. Appetizer special was $18 which would’ve been nice to know..we didnt ask and waiter fidnt offer..good but pricey..4 scallops wrapped in bacon. Portions are big.
Our reservation was made for 8pm and we did not get seated until 8:53pm, we told our friends about how wonderful the food was at this restaurant and finally brought them along with us. we arrived at 7;45 for an 8pm reservation and no one was at the hostess stand until 8:15 pm to check us in. Then we had to stand in a hot lobby until 8:53 when our name was finally called to go to a table. nothing was done for us in a way of a complimentary appetizer or dessert for the long wait and we all complained about the wait. We go to this restaurant frequently. We were very disappointed in front of our friends in regards to the wait since we all rushed to get there by 7:45.
We had a great time with friends. Food was great. Was very noisy but could still talk.
The only concern was we had reservations and it appears a group came in without reservations but they were able to buy their seating by tipping the Host .... I know there was a group of 4 in front of us with reservations for 7 pm and they had waited for 45 minutes and got upset and left .. Our reservation was for 7:30 and were seated at 7:50 so that was not too bad. However group who did not have reservations were seated before others with reservations. Not appropriate.
My Veal Parmesan melted in your mouth. It was excellent. We split a Caesar salad which was also excellent. Exceptional dressing....Our waiter, Alex, was fantastic. It was my friend's first time there and she had a wonderful dinner, too. We will definitely be returning.
We waited for 35 minutes for a 7:30pm reservation .... understandable that a restaurant at the shore on a weekend will be busy, but there was no where to wait except for a dingy lobby of a condo. No bar, no ambience. Thankfully once seated we had good service and our meal was excellent. A bit overpriced, but excellent.
We have been dining here since it opened in Avalon and this was the best meal ever. Food was excellent. Good service. Special salad was fantastic . Wonderful combinations of greens, fruit , beets and cheese. Seafood Risotto was fantastic as always. Excellent veal francaise. We will be back especially now that summer crowds will be gone.
Big Eyes View
Have been here many times since they opened and have seen some variability in our satisfaction. On the plus side the food is usually good and the wait staff competent in an above average environment for the shore. The waiter will tell you of the specials, but will not tell you the price unless you ask. This time pwe went with old friends we have not seen for a year. The waiter was AWOL after telling us rhe specials and took a long time tp take our order. The food was, as usual, good but the waiter was talking to friends when we were trying to pay the check. Someone else noticed this and finally came over to take it. The restaurant is in a single room and it has hard room attributes so large can be noisy. The mussels were small and tasteless, but the rest of the food was good, especially the veal dishes. Prices are somewhat higher as is expected at the shore, but there are restaurants about as good which can be found within a fifteen minute drive from this one. We have been to all the restaurants run by this family, but none has been as high a value as the Philadelphia one, La Fontana d'Cite.
The place was unbearably noisy and the two of us were squeezed in-between a table of 12 and a very noisy table of six. The waitress was OK, but was rushed and was not particularly attentive. We did not even have salt and pepper on the table and I had to get a set from another table because no one was paying any attention to us. We were not offered any cracked pepper for our salads and had to ask for that and wait again before we could began to eat the salads.
My Caesar salad was warm and tasted like it had been sitting there all day.
My sister selected Veal Milanese and said it was tasteless and she found four or five lemon seeds in the sauce. My Veal Parmesan entrée was fried to the plate and the side of spaghetti looked like a tangled -up glob of yarn with the sauce baked into it. I am used to a nice sauce on top of entrées not a fried dried up mess.
When the waitress brought our bill we settled the tab and waited and waited for someone to take the cash. We finally gave it to another waiter and left only to find our waitress having a nice break in the lobby.
I would definitely never return and I do frequent Stone Harbor with my husband and other family members frequently.
We celebrated our son's birthday-and his 1 year old daughter was helping us with the party! The staff was so inviting and accommodating. As usual, Bekim entertained us with some delicious appetizers and fabulous entrees. It is hands down THE best ristorante down the shore!
Arrived for dinner at the scheduled time, no one was there. Eventually a waiter seated us. Salad for one was overpriced for one at 15.95. Dinner specials were announced, my wife ordered the lobster ravioli, was surprised at the cost at the end 40.00. Seriously overpriced. When our dinner was almost finished we noticed other tables getting bread, we asked the waiter at the end and he said oh yeah the delivery was late, didn't even care we didn't get any bread. We will not for sure to go back, bad uncaring service and overpriced at 115.00 for two.
Very frustrating when the waitresses and waiters do not understand what you want. Had to ask for bread. Had to ask for ice.Felt as though I was being rushed in order to get the next customer in my place. Strongly suggest they hire an American staff that knows how to treat people.
We did not get any bread, asked for a second glass of sprite and told they did not have anymore, asked for decaf tea and they didn't have any, asked for regular tea and they didn't have any. They were out of four desserts on a Sunday night. Even though they were out of so many things, they did not try to compensate us in anyway.
Our party of six consisted of professionals and seniors.
To begin with, you had to shout to be heard. You were packed in like cattle.
Our reservation was for 7:30, and at 9:15, after we had just paid the bill and were finishing our cappuccinos, a waiter asled us to leave so they could accommodate the waiting parties. Between the six of us, none of us could remember such rude behavior.
Celebrated my birthday here with my husband and daughters. We all absolutely loved our meals (veal Milanese, tuna, seafood risotto, veal parm). We also shared 2 appe's (fried mozzarella with proscuitto , and eggplant). Everything was absolutely delicious. Service was super efficient and friendly. I would highly recommend this gem!
Food was quite tasty. My only negative was our waiter really sold the special which was Veal Osso Bucco. I did not ask what the price was and I ordered it. The highest price item on the menu was about $ 30.00. Boy was I surprised to see that the special was $ 44.95.
Went here last summer and enjoyed it, but we were a bit disappointed this time. Both times we had a long wait even though we were on time for our reservation. I ordered the lobster ravioli special without being told the price and was surprised that it was more than i would pay for a whole lobster elsewhere. Tira misu was not good and all desserts are $11. I forgot to use my open table reward for $20 and when i went back following day they would not give me credit.
