La Vecchia Cucina Ratings and Reviews
Loved the food and the service, but even though we got there relatively early, it was so loud by 7:30 I could barely hear my companions across the table from us.
Though I give the food and service high marks, this is not an easy place to hold a conversation in.
The restaurant was recommended by a friend of our son's. It's one of his favorite haunts. The food was beautifully presented, and tasted as good as it looked. I started with tomato and mozzarella - which is on most Italian menus. This was an amazing and buttery cheese, with vine ripened tomatoes, basil and a delicious dressing. My son got the carpaccio, which was terrific. Mains were the truffle and mushroom risotto, lasagna and steak. All were amazing. A chocolate fudge cake and lemon tart rounded out the meal. Great service, delicious food and reasonably priced. We had bottles of wine, fairly reasonably priced. A great find!
This is at least our 20th visit here in the last few years. La Vecchia is sensational from A to Z.
The welcome is always warm and the service attentive, prompt and friendly, but not smarmy.
This time we led with Caprese salad and Minestrone soup. The caprese here consistently has the freshest tomatoes and mozzarella and is even better than the caprese at Monte's Trattoria in Greenwich Village. The minestrone has a hint of panchetta in the broth and is outstanding.
The Spaghetti Bolognese was terrific as usual and my wife had the Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli in a slightly spicy sauce which she really liked. She has had the Veal Picatta on previous visits which is excellent. My usual here is Linguini and Clams which is better here than Johnny Costa's in Palm Springs where it was Frank Sinatra's favorite dish.
Atmosphere here is like the best New York Italian restaurants. High ceilings, but not noisy. Seating is cozy but you are not overhearing anyone.
I got the tri-colore salad. It was excellent. Just the right amount of dressing to compliment the three different types of lettuce. The tagliata salad was best that my friend had every eaten and the caesar salad was classic but delicious as well. I am adddicted to their rigatoni bolognese. By far the best in all of LA. The mushroom risotto was very hardy and deliciousand the linguine alla zingara was favored by my friend. He didn't leave a morsel on his plate. The food is outstanding and it never disappoints. And last, the chocolate raspberry terrine is to die for.
La Vecchia is by far the best Italian restaurant in Los Angeles and they have the best rigatoni bolognese in Los Angeles. Best! Hands down. They also have the best warm bread served with gar, licky olive oil. Their menu is very extensive. They have many delicious salads and appetizers and excellent fish, chicken and fish dishes.
Herd some good reviews so thought we would check it out. There was liverly buzz and that made for a great atmosphere. Food was really good and the hot bread and garlic olive oil was a nice change. Generous portions and attentive waiting staff made sure you were looked after. Will be going back soon 😀😀😀
Loved the authentic Italian cuisine, the ambiance! Ask for Matthew - he was an awesome waiter! He went above and beyond for our anniversary celebration!! He brought us a delicious Italian vanilla flan for dessert. He was very accommodating and friendly! We went back the next night again, but he was not working. He is excellent!
Wonderful Italian restaurant with large selection of reasonably priced meals. We tried the tri-colori salad and the Osso Buco alla romano. All very good and the Osso Buca very authentic and delightful. We also tried a special appetizer... Zuchini blossoms stuffed with cheese, wonderful. Wine list was reasonably priced and included half bottles. I chose one of my favorites.. Seghesio Zin
What a wonderful evening once again at La Vecchia! From Tao the consummate host, to Oliver's impeccable service, to the delicious gnocchi special with zucchini flowers made vegetarian style on request, lobster ravioli special, and the ever consistently delicious Branzino and mushroom risotto..... this is why we come back again and again and again. Thank you team La Vecchia!
Have enjoyed La Vecchia on many visits to Santa Monica over the years. But not last night. Great server though. Reserved table for 5 several weeks ago, arrived on time yet kept waiting for the table and finally seated in a corner at the back with some of us staring at a wall and the hall to the washrooms. Food was tasty except the oysters which were far from fresh. Very disappointed.
This place never disappoints. The food is delicious and the service is very good. One thing I would change is the limited "wine by the glass" selection. Not only are there few to choose from, but the choices are bad. I don't mind paying a little more for a quality glass of wine, hopefully they'll upgrade that soon. I'm coming back either way, but I might not drink any wine.
Everything was okay. Pasta and pizza Alright, but prior to ordering a bottle of wine we asked to taste it & our waiter's response was "you can taste it once we open it for you". Maybe it was the tone in which he responded in, but it was just interesting to hear him say that. Anyway, ambiance was probably the best part of the experience. Everything else was kind of Blah
