Service and food was better than
The restaurant is great for lunch and dinner. It has very authentic Northern Italy food. Fantastic !
It would have been nice to NOT get charged a corkage fee, esp for a wine they didn't carry.
I made a last minute reservation using Open Table - I was pleasantly surprised that the reservation was in the system!! Our party of 4 was seated right away, water with bread and butter were on the table within seconds of being seated. Our server was delightful, he gave very good descriptions of the specials that night. We didn't order salads or starters, which allowed for a nice bit of conversation over our wine/cocktails.
Dinner was served in good time - we weren't left wondering where it was, nor did we feel rushed - impeccable timing. Our party enjoyed Veal Marsala, Cannelonni, Petrale Sole and Ravioli
Always great food and service, one of my all time favorites that never disappoints. Whether for business or just a night out for some authentic Italian I would recommend La Toscana.
The food was fabulous as usual. The portions are very generous, enough for some of us to take home. We all had a great time. The restaurant was more packed than usual.
With 2 kids and 2 adults, there was something for everyone, even a 4-5 item kids menu (which is always appreciated. It's hard to find reasonably priced family places in Marin. Salads and appetizers were tasty and fresh, and all the entrees we had were good. Services was fine, the place was busy so staff was stretched a bit thin. Pleasantly surprised with the prices overall...appetizers $10, pasta $12-15, meat dishes $20.
The food and service were all on point. We wanted to order the mussels and clams but they ran out of clams so we ordered something else....other than that everything we ordered was delish, including the complimentary appetizer ( bruschetta )Will definitely come back again.
Always a consistent experience! Great gnocchi and lasagna!
I have eaten at La Toscana many times over the years. The service remains very good. The menu is a bit dated though the food itself tastes good.
Our pre theater dinner was, as usual, a nice experience. Our server was efficient and friendly.
I finally made it to La Toscana. I recently moved to Marin and this is a staple for most residents. Portions are very big so come with an appetite! Service was awesome. I ordered the chicken parmesan and the chicken was excellent. We ordered the fried calamari and it was huge and delicious!!! And they have Spumoni!!!!! GO You won't regret it.
We live near here and just discovered this gem. Great food, atmosphere, service AND close to how. How lucky are we?
Solid food with great service. Good wine list, love the 1/2 price Wednesday special!
I sat at the bar and the Customers next to me were rude and pretentious. Food and service was excellent!
Love the food love the waitress and her attention to detail.
The food and service at La Toscana were both exemplary. The restaurant is very large and quite noisy. It is always crowded because the food is good and the service is excellent. It is great for a casual dinner or even a family dinner. ShelleyD
La Toscana is a great restaurant that has been here for years. Great for happy hour, our work lunches and dinner out. Been going here for years and has never disappointed.
We have been going here for family Sunday for years. Great food and the owners are wonderful
Our first visit, would go back again. Don’t like bench seating prefer chairs. We were a party of 4 sat in rear. Could not hear my party across from me. Too noisy. Food was great.
Am new to San Rafael and live in the La Toscana neighborhood. Went to the restaurant with 2 girlfriends prior to attending 'Ladies of Broadway' at the Civic Center. La Toscana was lively and vibrating. The food and service were excellent. My only complaint - as is my complaint re all restaurants nowadays - is the noise level: it's difficult to have a calming conversation with your table mates.
Took my grandchildren out to dinner. Restaurant was very accommodating. Server was very helpful. Food was good for us grandparents as well.
Our service was excellent. The waiter was there when we needed him and did not hover or rush us. We enjoyed the seafood risotto and petrale but thought the vegetables were overcooked. We would definitely go back, and think it would be fun to sit in the bar area.
A family favorite. The food is always consistent. Servers have all been there a long time so the service is great. Food quality and portions are perfect. Great place for a friday night meal or birthday celebration. Try the Lasagna, Canelloni, and Antipasto. Cheers!
Fabulous food, friendly, attentive, very busy waitstaff, and good family dining on a Friday night. But note, it's VERY loud! Removing the wall of mirrors in the main Dining room (not really necessary in such a large room) & sound proofing the ceiling would make a remarkable difference in lowering the almost deafening noise level.
I appreciate everything about this place especially it's proximity to the theater. Food is great and the service is particularly good.
The food continues to be quite good for a local restaurant. The service is also very good and friendly.
The noise level, however is quite high, particularly on weekends.
During the week it is a nicer place to visit as it is very hectic on Saturday night.
This is a consistently very good local italian restaurant with very well prepared dishes.
La Toscana never disappoints. The Osso Bucco was delicious. It was a difficult choice between the Short Ribs and Osso Bucco, so we ordered both. The service was warm and welcoming. I frequently recommend La Toscana to friends.
This restaurant is very good but very noisy.
We couldn't even have a conversation with each other. We had to shout to hear each other.
We have been to La Toscana numerous times, as it has been one of our favorites. However, the past few times have been quite disappointing. The food has not been near as good as it used to be. Today my husband's dinner was not acceptable. He ordered a pasta dish with pappardelle and boar, which he always loves, and it was watery and had a bitter taste. He sent it back, and requested his second favorite, the orecchiette. It was also watery and fairly tasteless. As we are such faithful customers, we didn't want to complain. Ultimately, my husband decided to tell the manager of our concerns. There was no manager available, so another waiter asked us to tell him the problem. My husband shared his concerns, and our waiter came by and chimed in loudly saying, "Liar! You said it was okay!" Unreal! How unprofessional! The waiter we shared the concern with said "Sorry" and that was the extent of that! That is too bad, as we may not return.
Food was mediocre. Service ok Noise level seated in center of restaurant was SO loud I could barely hear my friend
Birthday dinner for family including a 2year old and 5 month old. We were given a perfect table and taken care of very well. Great service and food. It is our go to restaurant and has been for a couple of decades. Always an A plus!
LaToscanna has been the iconic Italian restaurant in Marin County, California. Authentic Italian food made the old fashion way. Food is superb and highly recommend the Italian pasta dishes as well as their calamari steak. Lasagna is a hous favorite and a hit with the locals. Eclectic supper club. Jeans to dress up is accepted BUT make sure you have reservations. Excellent bar with expert mixologists.
Good food and atmosphere. Service also excellent. Would recommend for anyone.
It's a restaurant you want to go for when you want a very friendly, casual atmosphere with delicious food, and great waiters. We go there often. I am thankful they have been around as long as they have, and if they keep up this level of service, they will outlive me!!
We eat at La Toscana often and it's never a disappointment. Always good Italian food.
Its become hit or miss lately. The kitchen needs to learn Italian recipes. Veal Picatta should not have a gloppy gravy sauce on it. They did this once before on Petrale Picatta. Lemon and white wine should be used as well as butter and capers. What happened to the usual crusty french bread served with olive oil and vinegar? Now the bread is a soft crust milk bread served with a whipped margarine stuff. Green vegetables with nothing on them. Had to ask for a little olive oil they were so bland. All in all a rather disappointing experience. I understand food is expensive but cutting back in these ways does not make for a positive experience. I hope they correct these criticisms as we enjoy the restaurant and the owners are wonderful people.
Friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Great service, wonderful food. We have eaten here many times and have always had a lovely experience! A neighborhood gem!! Will continue to come back again and again.
The food is consistently good, great service, friendly staff and nice ambience. Can’t ask for more! Thanks.
