About La Toscana Ristorante
We are centrally located off Hwy. 101 in San Rafael, across for the famous Frank Lloyd Wright Marin Civic Center. La Toscana is a family owned and operated Italian restaurant and bar located in Marin County. It was established in 1985 by Paolo Mori, his wife, Marilyn, and Michele Quilici. The owners all grew up in Lucca, Italy and immigrated to the U.S. in the late 1950s. They wanted to create an atmosphere that reminded them of home – a place where locals would gather to eat, meet friends and family and celebrate with food and wine as every Italian family does. Chef and co— owner Giovanni Racanello joined La Toscana in 1986. Paolo and Marilyn’s daughter, Laura Mori Riella, and youngest son, Michael Mori, joined the La Toscana team in 1992 and 2002, respectively. Paolo loved to make people feel welcome and, just like all the Moris, enjoyed his food and wine and loved to see others do the same. This is the proud tradition that La Toscana carries on.

La Toscana Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
We enjoyed New Year’s Eve dinner at La Toscana and it was wonderful. The food was well-prepared and service excellent. Given how busy they were we were impressed the kitchen could keep up. We have been enjoying La Toscana for over 20 years...they are better than ever!
We celebrated an early New Years Eve with another couple here. Made my reservation through Open Table several weeks in advance and when arrived was given an AWSOME table. Corner booth. It was a great location. While the restaurant had alot of people I was not shouting in that corner booth. Very cozy and wonderful ambiance. Food was very good too! We enjoyed it very much and will be back!
Friendly incredibly accommodating staff. Food was mediocre at best. Carpaccio - drowning in capers on fatty slices of beef. Burrata salad good, with tomatoes that tasted like tomatoes in mid winter (baby tomatoes) but over toasted bread slices were too thick to eat without the whole slice crumbling. Veal scallopini was meh. On the verge of tasteless. All portions were generous, but not great food. Very noisy in the bar, but very friendly customers!
We have been to La Toscana many times for lunch, for dinner and for an afternoon cocktail and appetizers. We have never been disappointed. For our last dinner, our server Renee was very attentive and personable, and the food was again outstanding. The bartender also makes a great Negroni, and the wine selections are excellent. La Toscana has become a go-to place for us.
The service was excellent. The Pescadero pasta was very good with ample amount of shellfish. The tables are very close together so I did feel a bit cramped. The close proximity of other diners was a reason the noise level was a bit high. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this restaurant to family and friends.
La Toscana has been a family favorite for years. There are so many favorite dishes that jump off the menu, you have to try all four courses -- and dessert! The tortellini with carbonara sauce is to die for! I can't say enough great things about La Toscana - the food is delicious, service is exceptional; the overall dining experience is delightful and always leaves you looking forward to the next time!
Even on the busiest nights (a Saturday night in December), the food is delicious, and service very good. While the menu doesn't change much, every dish is "special." Unfortunately the noise level is a problem. Still, it's a lovely place for a nice meal without being rushed. Thank you!
La Toscana is a classic American-Italian restaurant with a comprehensive, classic Italian menu, good prices, an excellent wine list, great food, and outstanding service. It is busy and somewhat noisy from 6:30 till about 7:45, when it "empties out" at least on Sunday night. A Marin treasure!
We enjoyed another great evening at La Toscana. Whether headed to a show at the Civic Center or just out with friends, we have always had great experiences here. The food is very good (personal favorite and a MUST try the Cacio e Pepe). The wait staff is very friendly and always provide good service. Location is a very easy off the freeway spot with plenty of parking. Highly recommend La Toscana!
Always a stand out for authentic Italian food. Talented chef. I ordered the lasagna made with home made pasta and bechamel sauce and it was disappointing. It just was not quite as delicious as it had always been and a tad sparse in the meat department. Could be it was not made fresh that day? It has now gone to the bottom of my list of favorite foods to order. My two Guests had gnocchi and pasta with seafood - both delicious. Usually very noisy but on Monday night it was heavenly. Tried the Russian Mule cocktail that I would not order again. Not much flavor and very watery. Over the years they’ve always been my go to restaurant for northern Italian Food.
I have been there twice before on a Sunday night. The food is always terrific. This time I went on a Friday with my elderly mother. Not a good choice on my part. It is noisy, and the server did a heroic job, but had way too many tables. The service was VERY slow and my mother could not get her glass of wine until dinner was almost over. I will return, but only on a Sunday night.
