We are centrally located off Hwy. 101 in San Rafael, across for the famous Frank Lloyd Wright Marin Civic Center. La Toscana is a family owned and operated Italian restaurant and bar located in Marin County. It was established in 1985 by Paolo Mori, his wife, Marilyn, and Michele Quilici. The owners all grew up in Lucca, Italy and immigrated to the U.S. in the late 1950s. They wanted to create an atmosphere that reminded them of home – a place where locals would gather to eat, meet friends and family and celebrate with food and wine as every Italian family does. Chef and co— owner Giovanni Racanello joined La Toscana in 1986. Paolo and Marilyn’s daughter, Laura Mori Riella, and youngest son, Michael Mori, joined the La Toscana team in 1992 and 2002, respectively. Paolo loved to make people feel welcome and, just like all the Moris, enjoyed his food and wine and loved to see others do the same. This is the proud tradition that La Toscana carries on.

We have been to La Toscana numerous times, as it has been one of our favorites. However, the past few times have been quite disappointing. The food has not been near as good as it used to be. Today my husband's dinner was not acceptable. He ordered a pasta dish with pappardelle and boar, which he always loves, and it was watery and had a bitter taste. He sent it back, and requested his second favorite, the orecchiette. It was also watery and fairly tasteless. As we are such faithful customers, we didn't want to complain. Ultimately, my husband decided to tell the manager of our concerns. There was no manager available, so another waiter asked us to tell him the problem. My husband shared his concerns, and our waiter came by and chimed in loudly saying, "Liar! You said it was okay!" Unreal! How unprofessional! The waiter we shared the concern with said "Sorry" and that was the extent of that! That is too bad, as we may not return.

Birthday dinner for family including a 2year old and 5 month old. We were given a perfect table and taken care of very well. Great service and food. It is our go to restaurant and has been for a couple of decades. Always an A plus!

LaToscanna has been the iconic Italian restaurant in Marin County, California. Authentic Italian food made the old fashion way. Food is superb and highly recommend the Italian pasta dishes as well as their calamari steak. Lasagna is a hous favorite and a hit with the locals. Eclectic supper club. Jeans to dress up is accepted BUT make sure you have reservations. Excellent bar with expert mixologists.

It's a restaurant you want to go for when you want a very friendly, casual atmosphere with delicious food, and great waiters. We go there often. I am thankful they have been around as long as they have, and if they keep up this level of service, they will outlive me!!

Its become hit or miss lately. The kitchen needs to learn Italian recipes. Veal Picatta should not have a gloppy gravy sauce on it. They did this once before on Petrale Picatta. Lemon and white wine should be used as well as butter and capers. What happened to the usual crusty french bread served with olive oil and vinegar? Now the bread is a soft crust milk bread served with a whipped margarine stuff. Green vegetables with nothing on them. Had to ask for a little olive oil they were so bland. All in all a rather disappointing experience. I understand food is expensive but cutting back in these ways does not make for a positive experience. I hope they correct these criticisms as we enjoy the restaurant and the owners are wonderful people.

Everything was great except for the service. We were obviously not worth our waiter’s time.

Overall...meh..Nothing exciting. Just a little under par in every aspect. Sloppy service. Overcooked, cold steaks. Tired lettuce. Unimaginative sides. Blah drink specials. Forgotten birthday.

My friend and I both love Italian food, but were disappointed with the quality of our entrees. I had cannelloni, which was so boring and tasteless it was really inedible. Her chicken marsala, she told me, was just not very good. The meal was way too expensive for something so mediocre. Maybe we just made poor choices, but those dishes are Italian staples and should be excellent.
