La Toque – Westin Napa Ratings and Reviews
We had 4 course core menu with wine pairing, which was very nic. Things that could be improved:
- some ingredients are source from very far away (e.g. octopus from Spain), surely local alternatives must exist?
- Gin & Tonic with the Hendrick's was served with lime, this should have been with cucumber.
We were highly disappointed by the food, ambience and price at La Toque. The layout of the restaurant and decorations are outdated and old. The food was mediocre at best, lacking of imagination. The veal for two was quite plain, and you have to chose a dessert in every option of menus. My husband nor I like to order dessert and I felt I had no choice. We were charged $35 three times to add truffle to one of our dish and seing the quantity we were given that was absolutely outrageous. There are a lot of Michelin star (or other) restaurants that give you the appropriate quantity for you pay. Plainly and simply we felt robbed for what we ate.
We were seated promptly at the time of our reservation. Had a great view into the kitchen through a small window. Kitchen staff seamed to be highly proficient and professional. Fantastic wine list but for some reason the $350 Peter Michael Chardonnay was not cold. They said it was in the cellar but if it was, the cellar needs to be colder. And I'm used to Chardonnay being served around refrigerator temperature or colder. To be fair we were in Napa with highs above 100 degrees but the whole restaurant seemed warm. Aside from this one glitch the food and presentation were both fantastic! The Cabernet was very good and the correct temperature. I will dine there again with foodie friends but I'll call ahead and have them put the Chardonnay on ice.
This is among the top restaurants in Napa Valley. The food is outstanding, as is the service. We book reservations here whenever we plan a trip to Napa. On this occasion we met friends from the DC area in Napa and introduced them to La Toque. They were equally impressed.
This place lived up to its name and Michelin rating. The food was spectacular, the presentation was in line with the taste. The wait staff was synchronous in their service even with the sommelier. We did the wine pairing, which was amazing. You definitely get what you pay here; well worth the coin.
La Toque just keeps getting better and better. We always try and order as many courses as we can-just to taste all the great flavors. Some of the best protein on a tasting menu we have ever experienced-both the beef and the duck were amazingly well seasoned. The white asparagus coated in paper thin pastry was phenomenol. We ordered 10 items between the two of us and would start all over again any time!
Excellent fine dining experience with first class professional service, outstanding wine list, and very good food. Chef Tasting and four or five course menu is creative and innovative in approaching American cuisine. Wine pairing was done perfectly and i recommend that if you would like to try different wines matched with each course. Every course was very well prepared but some a bit over the top for me in terms of creative. If you like to experiment and try the latest techniques this is certainly very good. Reservations essential.
Great service, knowledgeable wait staff and sons. Ate the nine course chef's meal with the wine pairings and it didn't disappoint. The courses are small enough that you can eat everything- a few sumptuous bites of each food. I would return again when visiting Napa again.
This place has become one of our favorite places to celebrate birthdays. Each time we were thrilled with exceptional services and food & wine pairing. If you are looking to celebrate a special occasion, then this restaurant will not disappoint. Bin appetite!
I had dinner there with two foodie friends. The food was outstanding, although the desserts were not as exceptional as the appetizer and main courses. The wine list shines. The service was excellent except when we were ready to leave. We weren't asked whether we wanted the check and had to flag a waiter down to get one. Then, when we asked the waiter to split the bill onto two different credit cards, he got it backwards and had to reverse them, taking more time. One good touch was that we didn't have to wait for our valet parked cars; they were already up for us outside the door when we walked out. Finally, I note that when I say that the restaurant was a "good value," I mean for the quality of the food. It is an expensive restaurant, particularly because you can't order a la carte, and all of the prix fixe options include dessert even if you would prefer not to order it.
Incredible service and beautiful dishes in addition to it tasting great it was all eye candy. Great wine pairings. Only factor was the ambiance could have been a little nicer but good for California casual style with higher end cuisine. Would definitely go again.
Our waiter quickly forgot about us and was more attentive to obnoxious table next to us. The sommelier forgot that we did the wine pairing and we had to remind him to pour the wine for us, however the dish was already half eaten by the time he arrived with the wine.
Wow! Believe that this will eventually be a Michelin Two Star (is One Star now). Three Star under the Michelin system is highest. Very hard to get any Star or mention from Michelin Guide.
Great server, clean kitchen, wine pairing by the sommelier was exceptional, food was right portioned and amazing.
Would highly recommend.
I had left a note with my reservation saying it was celebrating me and my girlfriend's 5 year anniversary, and immediately upon arrival we were greeted with "congratulations" around every corner. We did show up a bit earlier than my reservation, but we were seated instantly. Upon being seated, we were greeted with a complimentary glass of champagne, again with the congratulations from everyone!
Our server Peter was absolutely fantastic. He was able to give recommendations on everything and answered every question we had.
The food was paced perfectly, and was prefaced with the wine pairing and an explanation of why the wine was chosen with the particular dish (which were all paired perfectly with each plate). We went for the 5 course tasting menu and wine pairings. We enjoyed everything greatly, but we think our favorite dishes of the evening were the beef carpaccio, asparagus and morels, the tortellini, the pork ribeye, and to end you MUST get the triple baked buttercrunch cake...basically the best apple pie you've ever had just deconstructed slightly.
Be ready to spend a pretty penny, but remember you're here for more than just the meal. It was an all around experience, coupled with absolute top notch service and hospitality. Awesome experience for our first Michelin stared restaurant.
My girlfriend had been wanting to go to La Toque for some time, as it has a Michelin star and an entire vegetarian menu (a bit of a rarity). I decided to take her for her birthday, fully expecting tiny portions, prices bordering on extortion, and being hungry at the end of the meal.
I could not have been more wrong.
Well, mostly. It was expensive, for sure, but it's one of the few places at this price point that I truly feel is worth every penny. Every bite was something new, something unique, and positively delicious. Even the roasted eggplant was something I would consider special... and I normally can't stand eggplant! The biggest surprise to me, though, was that by the end of the meal I was almost too full for dessert. You could spend 5 times as much at the French Laundry and still want a burger afterwards. La Toque will leave you profoundly satisfied.
The staff were each professional, welcoming, and very friendly. Some patrons may scoff at the automatic 20% service fee (yes, even for a table of 2) but those same patrons will be delighted to know the entire staff truly spends the effort to earn that fee. Tipping a staff this good less than 20% would border on criminality.
And finally, the wine pairings. It is certainly expensive, but I would STRONGLY recommend the full tasting menu when ordering. Careful though; each pairing is a generous pour and by the end of a 5 course meal you might want to consider calling a cab! The price will typically double the cost of the meal, but I would prefer to come here half as often just to justify getting it. A meal at La Toque without the pairings would be like buying a luxury sedan without air conditioning.
Dining at La Toque was something akin to a spiritual awakening. For those once-a-year special occasions, you'd be hard-pressed to match the experience here. Bravo!
Just amazing!!!! The tasting menu and wine selections were the BEST I've ever had. The whole evening was a palate pleasure and the all male staff were exceptional. This is a well executed tasting menu ... as you can imagine keeping up with which tasting each customer is on and the associated wine.
I highly recommend splurging the next time you're in NAPA . Extraordinary evening and hospitality!!!!
Oddly uneven service. Sommelier was brusque and dismissive when asked for options other than standard wine pairing with tasting menu. We asked for the end cute plate of candies to be boxed, never saw it again after it left our table. In meal food service was fine, but nothing special.
It was a wonderful journey to taste and enjoy Ken Frank's creative dishes. We had the tasting menu which my wife and I chose differently. The food are all absolutely Michelin star quality and service was very attentive. The restaurant setting is pleasant. We highly recommend La Toque for any special occasion dining.
Dinner with a fairly large group was handled with aplomb by staff. Everyone LOVED the skate wing and the foie gras was done to perfection. The NY steak was particularly good this time - flavorful and amazingly tender.
This is always our "go to" restaurant with guests - nothing better in Napa Valley.
One of the most memorable fine dining experiences we have ever had. The wait staff was so accommodating and knowledgeable and the food was top notch. HIGHLY recommend the wine pairing with the menu...just took the experience to another level. We normally have a hard time paying that kind of money for a meal but in this case it was well worth it. One word-amazing!
An awesome dining experience in the Westin hotel in Napa. Elegant and at the same time relaxed and sophisticated. There are three menu choices: ala carte, pre fixe, and vegetarian. Wine pairings are great, however, wines by the bottle and glass are available. I had the sommelier customize my wine pairings based on my personal wine preferences. Service is top notch, timed really well and not overbearing. This is one the sophisticated dining experiences in the valley.
We ate at La Toque to celebrate a birthday. We have eaten there atleast once a year for the past 5 years and have enjoyed it each time. The service is outstanding and ambiance and food just as good. Chef Ken Franks has designed a innovative and delicious meal that holds up to high standards each time. We also love the fact that there is a full vegetarian tasting menu .
Great wine list though we usually bring a good bottle of wine and the cocktails are really good.
Service is impeccable right from them taking the wine bottle at the check in desk, to having our car pulled up at the front when we are ready to leave.
I was quite disappointed. This was my 4th time to the restaurant but I had not been back in several years and was excited to visit again but the meal was just not up to the quality i remembered. The chef's tasting menu was not worth it...the caviar dishes were amazing but the rest was just ok (the octopus--my girlfriend didn't get the tasting menu--was actually not good at all). The wine pairing was ok...but overall we were quite disappointed.
