La Toque – Westin Napa Ratings and Reviews
Worth trying once however we got the 4 and 5 course build your own tasting menu and it was so so. They attempted to deconstruct the dishes to make it a bit more innovative, but the different flavors of each ingredient used to make each dish didn’t mix well together.
Service however was impeccable.
We give them props for that.
We consider ourselves foodies and this was an outstanding meal on Jan. 30 to avoid the New Years Eve crowd. Meals are all prefix with 4 to 9 courses with or without wine pairing. We had beef carpaccio, salad, scallops, black bass, ravioli and duck. All were outstanding...served hot and prepared very well. We did the wine pairing and the sommelier was informative and helpful. With the included 20% gratuity it was just over $400.00 for two. If you like food and wine it is worth the occasional splurge to enjoy this Michelin rated restaurant in the Westin, Napa.
Food was average at best. No innovation or creativity. My fish in one of the dishes was deep fried even after I specifically asked the server if it was, and she told me it was sautéed. So disappointed to see it was deep fried after I specifically asked her! Does she not know the difference between deep frying and sautéing? I’ve had much better meals for the same price. Utterly disappointed.
I was really excited to try this restaurant when I was visiting Napa with my family. Our entire party is vegetarian, so the fact that the restaurant offered a vegetarian tasting menu was the reason we chose this specific restaurant.
While the service was impeccable and the wine was phenomenal; the vegetarian tasting menu fell short of expectations. It was obvious each course was well prepared and beautifully arranged on the plate; however, out of 5 courses (I am excluding both the amuse-bouche and dessert), 4 courses included mushrooms. By the end of the meal we were all eating around the mushrooms. Being a vegetarian my entire life, I know there are plenty of other vegetarian fine dining options that could have been offered on the vegetarian tasting menu that didn't include mushrooms. While no one was allergic, it just didn't offer much of a variety for us.
The food was wonderfully prepared both taste-wise and presentation-wise. The staff were professional, attentive yet non-intrusive. The wine pairing was good (if only they can price it more reasonable cos after all they are in the wine producing region)and I have 1 outstanding red which is the 2010 GSM 'L'Autre' from Terre Rouge. My one comment was on the sommelier who was less than friendly. He performed his obligatory narrative on the origin and varietal. When asked further upon the pairing, if he could describe the taste, he did not offered any description, displayed an attitude like 'where should he begin', stayed silence a bit, turned and walked away.
La Toque was the best and the most surprising find on our most recent trip to Napa. Truly a flawless dinner experience for us. The food was incredibly inventive and delicious and very beautifully presented. The service was lovely. Very attentive and polite. I am very happy to have discovered La Toque after so many years of visits to Napa. Now it will become a regular stop for us.
We had an excellent time! My husband has a tree nut allergy and they were so good about making suggestions and figuring out substitutions. It was my birthday dinner and they made me feel so special throughout the night - even presenting me with a copy of the menu signed by the chef as we had our dessert. I was thoroughly impressed with the entire experience.
My wife and I are local to Marin County but not Napa, so we planned a special trip to Napa Valley for an afternoon and evening. As part of the experience, I chose La Toque for dinner based on the recommendation in a recent issue of Wine Spectator.
Highlights for the evening were the wine pairings and the Sommelier. The food was predictably great, and reasonably unique but it was the wine that stood out - the pairings were creative, and covered a broad range of wine - countries (not just US regions and definitely NOT just Napa), grape varietals and winemaking. The Somm was really good - VERY knowledgeable and good fun - took the time to share his personal and professional insights on the wine, the regions, and winemaking technique. I'd add - I'm an adventurous wine drinker, always searching for something new, or unique to pair with food. So it's unusual for me to find a pairing menu terribly adventurous. This one was more adventurous than not - and that's a good thing.
The 4 or 5 course prix fixe menu was plenty for us (as opposed to the full Chef's Tasting Menu). As usual, my wife and I chose different items from each course, and mixed/matched as we went. Great way to get a broader feel for the food, and the wine pairings. FYI - the staff raved about a couple items that I didn't love as much as they did - probably just personal taste, but worth noting.
One last note on customer service - these guys nailed it overall, and really won me over when I almost walked out without my top hat. The maitre d' had checked it at the beginning of the evening. Several of the staff intercepted me on the way out to remind me of my hat, and fetch it. I really love this level of attention when I'm chipping in for a spendy dinner. Thanks La Toque for your great service.
La Toque continues to have the best French cuisine in the Napa Valley. Dinner with friends was made magical by a great menu, sterling wine list and perfect service. Delicious offerings like the foie gras, carpaccio, duck breast, bacon-wrapped port tenderloin and the veal chop were done in outstanding fashion. Dessert and cheese course did not disappoint either. You don't need to go up-valley to have one of the best meals of your life, French or otherwise.
Kudos to Chef Ken Frank and his entire staff for a wonderful evening!!
We enjoyed our meal at La Toque. The service was impeccable.
The dishes were flavorful and the wine pairings were spot on. The portions were small for the fish dishes but adequate for the meat dishes. The bread made in house was delicious. It's definitely an expensive meal reserved for special occasions.
It felt like Halloween came early! It was a horrific experience. Chef had no clue how much salt he was dishing out in each entree. The snapper dish with red Thai curry had Thai flavor missing completely. The last course was a Wagyu beef we had to spit out due to the sodium level . It was a major disappointment. We ordered a delicious Spanish 2001 Rioja and not once did the establishment feel ashamed presenting such bad food. I was suggest to dine at your own risk.
Went for our anniversary and were lucky enough to be seated at the Chef's Table overlooking the kitchen. We each ordered the tasting menu (4/5 courses) with my wife getting the wine pairing. The menu choices were extraordinary - the duck was phenomenal and the veal chops (for 2-pictured) even better. Even the though the portions were small-ish, we were actually full before dessert because each course was so full of taste and richness, The wait staff was very attentive and the sommelier was very informative when presenting each pairing.
For us (novices), it was as much a learning experience while having one of the best dining experiences ever!
Having high expectations because of great prior experiences may lead to major disappointment, no here! The chef is still the same and does an outstanding job, every single course was a great pleasure. Wine pairing was very well selected, however the amount served could have been more generous, especially with the main course. Considering the price of $ 82 per person for wine pairing I would order bottles next time. Then I know what I will be getting, even though in general I prefer wisely selected wines by a sommelier if he is poring generously.
We had high expectations of the meal - with a Michelin star we thought this would be out of this world. Some dishes were spectacular not all were. We were first disappointed with the amuse bouche. Some were not tasty enough and the chorizo was a bit chewy rather than crisp. We ordered food and wine pairings and the wine was very good - taking us to vineyards that we probably would never have tried. Fish dishes were good and so was the meat (pork and the steak). You need to like your steak rare but we were warned about that. So overall I would return but be careful in what I chose. Service was, as expected really good.
