La Tequila Cocina Mexicana Ratings and Reviews
I had read some reviews that this was a place with creative cuisine and it was close to our hotel. I didn't expect this to have such an artsy, upper class flair. We LOVED it! The setting was wonderful, our waitress was very nice although as usual the food didn't come out quickly, but in such an enjoyable setting, that didn't bother us. Our margaritas were some of the best we have ever had. We tried the insect appetizer and won't say we loved it but it was definitely edible and the pics almost went viral with our friends! The salad was very interesting, and sooooo good. Our main dishes (meat for my husband and fish for me) were both prepared with pizazz and taste. Our bill was ridiculously low and quality/price, this will be out go-to restaurant in Guadalajara in the future.
Prompt service and fabulous food. Everyone we dealt with was very knowledgeable of the food and drinks. When you ask for a margarita, you are asked the brand of tequila you want to use?! They have over 400 different brands of tequila! Awesome!
La Tequila specializes on taking Mexican food to the next level. They are proud of it and pursue it. The restaurant décor is a mix of modern and Mexican gauche flags on the ceiling. Mix of fancy, nationalistic and modern. Weird, but the food is what attracted me.
I came for the pre-Columbian food. Yes, before the Spaniards landed and enslaved the Americas. Stated, the part is was looking for in pre-Columbian was worms, crickets, and ant eggs. I had heard that insects were part of the mainland’s cuisine. These delicacies can only be found on the Mexican mainland. As my server came, I told him my weird request and he walked off as if he understood my wishes. My Wife, on the other hand, was not soo enthused about the whole experiment.
The meals arrived and our gastronomic adventure accomplished. Oooohh. Was it good. Yum. We indulged on a fabulous meal that is insected in our minds for a long time. Rick, the manager, recommended a local crafted tequila, aged on oak barrels, which was scrumptious and tasty. We ordered edible insects as appetizers but they ended up filling us and we did not have space for any additional courses. This was unfortunate, because many of the courses were really, really enticing.
We are lucky. We came to La Tequila in the middle of the week and we still have a few days to indulge on their 8 tequila-paired course. Will come back next week.
To summarize, amazing service and food. Very affordable. Jalisco cuisine at its best.
We went to La Tequila before a concert and explained we only had an hour. Service was prompt, the food was delicious, and they ordered a cab for us, so we got to the concert right on time. The margaritas were excellent. We split a grilled beet salad that was a tasty combination of sweet and smoky with peppery arugula on top. The waiter made fresh salsa right at the table, which added a festive touch. Our fish was perfectly done, moist with an orange sauce with just a touch of heat. The complimentary tequila sorbet was the perfect ending. Great dinner at La Tequila.
Me parece bien, tienen buenos platillos.
