La Tavola - Baltimore Ratings and Reviews
First the good. The appetizers were all good and everyone in our party of 6 enjoyed their entry except for me. The homemade fettucine in my Fettucine alla Romana were too thick and gummy which was disappointing.
Now the bad, which detracted from our entire experienced. The service from all of the wait staff EXCEPT for our main server were attentive to their tables and to us when they helped serve our courses. Unfortunately, our main server barely paid any attention to us. He omitted details about the specials which didn't encourage us to consider ordering any of them. When we overheard other servers described the specials to other tables, we were surprised by how good they sounded. While waiting to order dessert, we asked our server about the dessert of the day, which we overheard from a nearby table earlier. Our server said "oh, yeah, there's a cake, but the menu desserts are better". Because we were a table of 6, a 20% service charge was automatically added to our bill. We wouldn't have minded paying this service charge if our main server had made any effort with our group.
Overall, the food was generally good, but if we go back we would definitely try for a different server.
I had an amazing meal at La Tavola. From the minute we walked in the door, we felt like the only people in the restaurant and had our need met promptly.
The service was impeccable and the food was all beautifully presented, delicious and our server offered some great suggestions.
Our server/manager Dave had some great friends d and wine suggestions and we were happy to take them.
Though all of our courses were delicious, the grilled calamari app special, the rockfish in parchment with shrimp and scallops and the interesting take on a canoli (in a pizzelle shell rather than the traditional heavy shell) for dessert were definitely the standouts of the night.
I will be back!
Both my boyfriend and I enjoyed everything about our dining experience. Food was all homemade and fresh. Portion sizes were perfect. We prefer quality over quantity. We even had room to order dessert and that was also enjoyable. Will definitely return to this restaurant.
This is our go-to Little Italy restaurant where we always get a very good meal. Whenever they have the special fish in parchment paper, it is always delicious! Their bruschetta is very good. The black squid ink pasta is also a must have - even if you ask for a half-portion.
I've been to LA tavola a few times before and generally enjoyed my experience when there were few people there. However, a group of 6 of us came at a busy time on the weekend and our experience was lacking. We waited a significant period of time before even getting drink orders in. When the drinks arrived, several drink orders were missing and we needed to give several reminders to receive the full order. We again waited to be asked for our food order. When the food arrived, we waited 10 minutes for all orders to come out and at least 2 orders were missing. After this, we're not sure if we will be back.
We had a delicious dinner. Loved the fact that we could get half portions so we were able to try 2 pastas. Our waitress, Gerry, was excellent. It was nice to also have a visit from the Chef to be sure we enjoyed our dinner. We will surely revisit La Tavola.
The food here was good, but it wasn't anything that really impressed me to be honest. However, they were very busy when we dined so I may have caught them on an off-night or my personal tastes differ from what others would've considered to have been much better tasting. The flavors just sort of fell flat for me. The appetizers, however, were very tasty. It isn't hard to mess up bruschetta and mozzarella. The ambiance is a bit lacking, as it is really just one big square room, however that one room is relatively nice and comfortable. The service was beyond excellent! I cannot say enough how well the server was and how much personal attention the manager and chef gave to our table. One of the better dining experiences we've had in that aspect.
La Tavola was new to us and a delight -very good food in a relaxed atmosphere. We were 8 for a family birthday. Everyone who greeted / seated and served us was skilled and enjoyable - especially Maki. We saw lots of things we liked on the menu and enjoyed all that we ordered. We'll be back.
It has been quite a while since we had been to La Tavola. ALWAYS enjoyed the food, but the service was an issue... NOT SO this time. The food (and Carlo, the chef) were outstanding as in the past and the service from the manager (Dave) and our server Melina was warm, welcoming and attentive. We definitely will make this a "go to" spot for post matinee meals again... Happy to be going back there once more.
The ambiance here was interesting - it was very (almost strangely) quiet. Our waitress was fantastic and knew a lot about the menu and was willing to offer up her opinions. I thought the food was ok. Based on the ratings I had seen I had expected it to be a little better but it may have just been what I ordered because everyone I was with was impressed with their food. In the end, I'm not sure if we'd go here for another special occasion but maybe for a date night it would be good and that's exactly what I would recommend this for.
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal.! Our waitress, Geri, was great!..... friendly and efficient! When our waitress discovered my husband was looking for something not on the menu, she said she would talk to the chef and returned with a smile on her face. My husband enjoyed linguini with white clam sauce with many little neck clams on top.
It was a very enjoyable dinner in Little Italy for a group of five. The waiter was friendly and engaged enough to make it a personal event. The Fettuccine alla Romana was excellent because of the fresh pasta and light cream sauce. The group had a variety of deserts which were all excellent. Overall it was a pleasant experience. Will return to this restaurant during visits to the Inner Harbor.
La Tavola is located in the Little Italy section of Baltimore, and has a lot of competition. My wife and I read their positive reviews and decided to give it a try. The outside is unassuming, but inside is very nice. We felt welcome and comfortable as soon as we walked in. This is a classic Italian restaurant, with friendly staff, a warm atmosphere, and excellent food. No young clueless wait staff here. Our wait person, Linda, was both friendly and professional. We told her it was our first visit and she told us about the chef, the house made pasta, and the wonderful sauces. She and the rest of the service staff anticipated our every need. When I ordered the Linguine Alla Scoglio (linguini with scallops, shrimp, mussels, and clams) she recommended I opt for the white wine sauce over the red sauce, and it was perfect. My wife had Salmon, which she commented as the best she'd ever had. The house made pasta was marvelous. We thoroughly enjoyed both our meal and the experience. We'll definitely be back. I heard another table raving about the Lasagna, so that's next on my list. Recommend.
