La Tavola - Baltimore Ratings and Reviews
I truly think this is the best Italian restaurant in Baltimore. I genuinely appreciate that for how exceptional the food is, it remains remarkably quiet. I appreciate loud and trendy restaurants as much as the next person, but for a special night with family or a loved one... no better than La Tavola
It was our second time at La Tavola and it hit the ball out of the park once again. There were four of us and the entrees were all delicious. We had the seafood Neri, the beef and veal lasagna and the seafood in parchment paper. The Neri and the seafood in parchment were interestingly presented, and the lasagna pasta was superb. Service was unobtrusive and the server knowledgeable about everything on the menu. Italian with a Venetian twist. A Great Meal.
We've been visiting La Tavola since we moved to Baltimore, for the past five years or so, and it has been consistently good all around. Unlike many of the other restaurants in the city that range in so-so to sometimes good, La Tavola is fantastic every time we visit. The homemade pasta is phenomenal, the flavors are explosive, and the bread is so warm and fresh. I love this place and can't recommend it enough.
Business dinner which happened to be during Restaurant Week -- excellent selections available. Truly hand-crafted in the kitchen. Very fresh and delicious. Service was prompt, friendly, and efficient. Excellent dinner from start to finish.
Don't go here for ambiance and decor -- it's comfortable but not fancy nor unique.
They could benefit from having much better stemware! - always a pet peeve of mine.
Went on NY Eve for dinner and it was our first time. It was fantastic.
The service was great. Very attentive.
Knowledge of menu was fantastic.
The food was so great. I loved walking upstairs and having a quiet table. This food was so good I cannot wait to return and I WILL!
I had special appetizer of stuffed calamari- so tender and delicious. Special entree of cannelloni- delicious . All sauces and breads and pastas and dressings are homemade and you can tell. I wouldn't let the server take the dressed arugula that came with the calamari because it was so good.
We will be back!
We made reservations for 6 on Christmas Day. When we arrived the hostess got the "deer in the headlights " look. They obviously didn't have a table for 6 available even though we made the reservation weeks ago. So we we squeezed into a table that was tight. The food was good - we've been coming for years and the food has always been good but the service was lacking. Not all dishes came out at once and after dinner coffee and expresso didn't arrive until we were done with desert. One in our party asked for chamomile tea. The waitress brought a box of teas but announced no chamomile. The tea was on the Bill Even though she used a tea bagfrom her purse. Time to clean up the service if you want us back
We had dinner at La Tavola on Christmas Day. It was one of the few places open. The service here is spectacular! I ordered the Lasagna Bolonese. It was absolutely delicious. My wife got a rockfish special that was cooked in parchment paper with scallops and carrots. She had to send it back because the fish was undercooked. It came back after a few minutes fully cooked this time. She devoured it saying it was delicious. The chef came to our table to apologize but that wasn’t really necessary. All in all we had a great meal with great service
Lovely evening on Christmas Eve with family and friends. Food was delicious and they were very accommodating. One of our party is an RN and had to work late and they were very attentive when she arrived so she could catch up with us all. Thank you, Rosemary
Went out on a mid-week date night - wanted to try someplace new. La Tavola is offset from the stretch of other restaurants in Little Italy, but it's a gem and I'm sorry I've overlooked it for so long. The chef's specialty is seafood - so good! Server was really attentive and the atmosphere was relaxed. Half off wine bottles on Wed was a nice surprise.
First the good. The appetizers were all good and everyone in our party of 6 enjoyed their entry except for me. The homemade fettucine in my Fettucine alla Romana were too thick and gummy which was disappointing.
Now the bad, which detracted from our entire experienced. The service from all of the wait staff EXCEPT for our main server were attentive to their tables and to us when they helped serve our courses. Unfortunately, our main server barely paid any attention to us. He omitted details about the specials which didn't encourage us to consider ordering any of them. When we overheard other servers described the specials to other tables, we were surprised by how good they sounded. While waiting to order dessert, we asked our server about the dessert of the day, which we overheard from a nearby table earlier. Our server said "oh, yeah, there's a cake, but the menu desserts are better". Because we were a table of 6, a 20% service charge was automatically added to our bill. We wouldn't have minded paying this service charge if our main server had made any effort with our group.
Overall, the food was generally good, but if we go back we would definitely try for a different server.
I had an amazing meal at La Tavola. From the minute we walked in the door, we felt like the only people in the restaurant and had our need met promptly.
The service was impeccable and the food was all beautifully presented, delicious and our server offered some great suggestions.
Our server/manager Dave had some great friends d and wine suggestions and we were happy to take them.
Though all of our courses were delicious, the grilled calamari app special, the rockfish in parchment with shrimp and scallops and the interesting take on a canoli (in a pizzelle shell rather than the traditional heavy shell) for dessert were definitely the standouts of the night.
I will be back!
Both my boyfriend and I enjoyed everything about our dining experience. Food was all homemade and fresh. Portion sizes were perfect. We prefer quality over quantity. We even had room to order dessert and that was also enjoyable. Will definitely return to this restaurant.
This is our go-to Little Italy restaurant where we always get a very good meal. Whenever they have the special fish in parchment paper, it is always delicious! Their bruschetta is very good. The black squid ink pasta is also a must have - even if you ask for a half-portion.
I've been to LA tavola a few times before and generally enjoyed my experience when there were few people there. However, a group of 6 of us came at a busy time on the weekend and our experience was lacking. We waited a significant period of time before even getting drink orders in. When the drinks arrived, several drink orders were missing and we needed to give several reminders to receive the full order. We again waited to be asked for our food order. When the food arrived, we waited 10 minutes for all orders to come out and at least 2 orders were missing. After this, we're not sure if we will be back.
We had a delicious dinner. Loved the fact that we could get half portions so we were able to try 2 pastas. Our waitress, Gerry, was excellent. It was nice to also have a visit from the Chef to be sure we enjoyed our dinner. We will surely revisit La Tavola.
The food here was good, but it wasn't anything that really impressed me to be honest. However, they were very busy when we dined so I may have caught them on an off-night or my personal tastes differ from what others would've considered to have been much better tasting. The flavors just sort of fell flat for me. The appetizers, however, were very tasty. It isn't hard to mess up bruschetta and mozzarella. The ambiance is a bit lacking, as it is really just one big square room, however that one room is relatively nice and comfortable. The service was beyond excellent! I cannot say enough how well the server was and how much personal attention the manager and chef gave to our table. One of the better dining experiences we've had in that aspect.
