I've dined here a few times and the food has been consistently good. The prices are reasonable for a nice restaurant in downtown Palo Alto.
Servers were over worked. Delayed service for us. Food was average at best.
Our first time dining at La Strada, with our dear friends of 30 years, and we all LOVED it! Our server, Ubaldo, could not have been more accommodating to several special requests. Attentive, but not intrusive, he easily refilled my husband's lemonade without asking, and checked with us during the meal to see if our needs were met - yes, definitely! A true delight and a place we will be back to often, even if we live in San Francisco. Liza
We (3 friends and I) were looking for a place to go before or after shows. theatre or music events in Palo Alto, and we had recommendations to try La Strada. We were not disappointed. The friendly staff looked after us, almost exclusively - the four dishes we ordered were very good: Mushroom pizza, Butter Nut Squash Ravioli New York Steak - prepared real medium as requested - and Chicken Diavola (two pretty big pieces of chicken and veggies). The highlight was a very light and tasty Tiramisu - everybody was giving highest marks to this dessert, and we have had many over the years. All in all a very pleasant experience and we will be back for sure!
Service was awesome! Rebekah rocks!
The hostess was great and accommodating. The atmosphere was more casual and louder than I expected. Jostling and loud. A lot of business/tech meetings which were intrusive as taping something in the front patio and a guest running back and forth to charge his device.
The food was just ok. A lot of sauce on fish choice and pasta soft and bland. The service took quite a long time. The dessert was great. To top it off, brought bill to table with pen open and pointed toward me which left a pen mark on my silk shirt. Sums it up.
Not very impressed with the food. It was lacking in flavor. Service was fine, as well as ambiance. Would not recommend.
Excellent service and very good food. Nice ambience.
We’re picky and all three dishes were excellent.
While the food is reasonably good and the location is very convenient, I am sure I will never go there again, furthermore, will probably spread the word on other forums about my experience. My wallet was stolen from my purse (hanging on the back of my chair) by a very shady looking guy sitting behind me. He and his equally shady looking company left before us, and on my way home, I received several alerts from various credit card companies about his many attempted fraudulent charges on my cards. After reporting the theft and freezing all my accounts within an hour, and filing a police report the next day, I went back to the restaurant just to see if I could recover my drivers license and other miscellaneous items in case the thief had thrown them in the bathroom garbage. While one of the waiters was very nice and trying to help me, I was asked to leave (three times!!!) by the manager (an old guy who looked and behaved incredibly unprofessional), since he was more concerned about diners possibly looking and wondering what I was talking about with the staff, than being a decent human being and helping me.
Very nice food and service
Our server was Carlos, he was distracted all the time
We did not get our drinks on a timely way
No show for bread
We asked other servers to bring our food
When we were going to order coffee he brought us the check!!!
We have been to this resturant many times in the past but this was a first time inside seating because of weather. We found our party alone in the resturant at 3PM quite surprise since when trying to book the time Open Table said there was nothing available for the time I originally wanted. Next time I will call the resturant directly or just pop in. Food is always good.
Casual or dressed to go out - never feel out of place. Great food for good prices
I had the butternut squash ravioli - normally a favorite for me. Instead of emphasizing the simple, delicious quality of homemade ravioli, they served a heavy, mushroom sauce that completely overwhelmed the dish. My friend had an ahi tuni salad and rated it only so-so.
Open Table stated that restaurant hours were until 11PM. We were flying in late to SJO and thought we could arrive by our 9PM reservation time. At hotel check-in about 8:15, I got a call from the restaurant whether or not we would be coming because they had a lot of cancellations and they would be closing at 9PM. I explained that our reservation was for 9PM. We rushed to get there before 9PM and were served, but felt rushed and did not really enjoy the dining experience. Food was good; the waiter was polite; the eggplant parmigiana was not good. It looked and tasted overcooked and tired as if it was waiting all evening in the oven for someone to order it. When I took the call from the restaurant, I should have taken the hint to cancel and go somewhere else. We will not go back to La Strada.
I asked the waitress to have the ice creme dessert served with a candle for daughter's birthday. She forgot. I had to ask the waiter in front of my daughter. :(
La Strada was a wonderful choice for our 30th Anniversary!
Because I liked it so much, I am planning a get together with friend's for our annual Babes and Bros dinner. Butternut squash...sealed the deal. Be looking for us sometime before Thanksgiving!
The overall food quality was good but there were a few areas that were definitely lacking. The waiters weren't really informed about the food but merely servers which for a restaurant that offers +$25 per plate meals is a bit alarming. They couldn't answer a question about an entree on the specials menu and deferred by saying the head chef had left. The outdoor heat lamps were both not working and it was a bit chilly, while not cold outside, where we chose to sit.
The waiters didn't bring bread initially, until mid-way through our meal, one asked if we would like more, and we replied that we had never received any bread. We didn't know this restaurant routinely provided it.
I don't fault the waiters for the service, or the lamp failure but the restaurant management. They could use some training and more attention to detail.
No pretense just good food and pleasant service. All our guests were pleased with the choice of the restaurant. our guests took an unusually long time (3 hours) over dinner. They must have really enjoyed sitting there.
Everyone enjoyed the food and location
Excellent Northern Italian cuisine. Service was attentive but rapid paced. A little rushed. Nice outdoor dining experience though.
Our meal was exceptional! Lively, fun environment. It was a beautiful night and we sat very close to the sidewalk with lots of people walking by all evening.
Great food and service, particularly enjoyed the appetizers, we enjoyed our evening
Sat by the owner - foods just made with read good ingredients and care
My soup was very good. Couple next to us that were regulars confirmed the soups are all good. Salad and Cheese board we had were also good. And a very good value.
We were quite pleased with our dishes. The special beet salad and the risotto with quail were particularly good. We'll be back.
We had family reunion. Visitors from Toronto. Friendly environment ; awesome food choice. Everyone had a great time catching up. Noise level was so good that 2month old baby was sound asleep on daddy's shoulders.
Food is good...nice staff... waiter did reach over a person to pour wine.. should not do that. But is reasonable and I would recommend
overpriced for quality and quantity of food for Palo Alto
During our lunch, both my girlfriend and I ordered the lunch special (salad and pasta). When we got our salads delivered, my girlfriend noticed a piece of paper in her salad. We quickly returned the item. Instead of an apology or acknowledgement, the waiters/servers just laughed. Quite unprofessional. We will not return.
Good choice for lunch. Fast service but waiter forgot bread and didn't do a check back after we were served. Food is good with a nice selection of salads that are generously portioned.
Love this place--always amazing! Perfect pizza, thoughtful service and amazing pasta.
I was a little disappointed as we had eaten there before and thought the food was better than what we had recently. Uncertain if I will eat there again....
It was a bit cold that evening. Could have turned up the heat.
Grilled Sea Bass and Ossobucco were excellent . This first visit wont be our last!
Meeting with family from out of state
A bit pricey, but excellent food and great staff. Parking is on street and VERY hard to find.
We split the beet salad, which was delicious. They served the split order on two plate, and the servings were very generous. The bread was good too, but the salmon and halibut ravioli special was mediocre. The ravioli didn't even taste like fish. My boyfriend had a sausage pasta dish, which he said did not have any sauce on it. The service was good, and the dining room was quiet enough to have a conversation.
My friend and I had a really nice dinner of three shared courses. We started with the grilled scallops and prawns appetizer, which is served on a very generous sized warm barley salad, more than enough for two. We had the pasta dish she especially likes and which I have never seen elsewhere: the buckwheat pappardelle in cream sauce with vegetables and pieces of roast chicken. The pappardelle were very wide and had a good buckwheat flavor. Our entree was the grilled lamb chops (4), served on arugula salad with asparagus and grilled eggplant slices. The lamb chops had a good flavor but I do wish there had been more light so that I could see to trim off the fat. It was a chilly evening, and every time the door opened we felt the cold air even though we were not sitting near the door. The restaurant was quiet enough for easy conversation, and the service was excellent.
Celebrated New Years Eve with friends and we all loved our meals. The daily specials added a nice variety to choose from. My Italian friend said the lasagna was the best she had ever eaten. Others ordered the Fruit de mare, Chioppino, and NY Steak - all wonderful. Generous portions. Will definitely be returning.
