La Societe Ratings and Reviews
Our waiter was extremely polite. He got us food that wasn’t even on the menu and was very attentive. I wasn’t in the mood for anything on the menu and the kitchen okayed a half lobster on its own! My girlfriend was picky about the dessert and he didn’t bat an eyelash to please her! Very pleasant staff! Will frequent this spot often! Thank you to Thomas (our young Italian waiter) for being a dream and making us very comfortable! Good service should never go unnoticed!
The restaurant itself is very nice, food is outstanding. Service is very slow, it was hard to get our waiter’s attention, multiple times we ordered from another waiter. We waited too long before getting our first drink. Overall amazing place and great food; only problem is the slow service.
Despite reserving a week in advance, we were seated behind the bar. Granted it was quieter there, but not much ambiance. Next time I would request a table in the main area overlooking Bloor St. Food was very good, a little overpriced, served in a timely manner. The bread was amazing.
I had never been for a Saturday lunch as I'm usually downtown more during the week. It was very noisy and the music was much too loud. I had to keep repeating myself to a guest across the table. I think that the management should keep more in touch with the overall presentation of the restaurant. There is construction going on I know, but the area we sat in near the door was dusty and the table was sticky. The chair I sat on was a little on the wobbly side. Maintenance is as important as the food for a good dining experience.
My server Thomas was superb. The arrival of a dressed salad (when I ordered dressing on the side) was corrected for me quickly with a sincere apology. I enjoyed the steak tartare but when I order it again I will ask for less of the crunchie onion topping as it did over power the delicate flavour of the dish.
It was a great afternoon to have a leisurely lunch and delicious cappuccino.
We have a tradition of having our United States Thanksgiving at this restaurant, it is consistently high quality is every respect, and a great blend of formal and casual. Our server Daniel is outstanding, as is the Sommelier Patrick. The wine list is lovely and perfectly matched to the brasserie style menu.
The food, service and overall atmosphere was good. Truthfully, I found the restaurant very, very loud with inappropriately loud disco music for Sunday. We couldn’t hear ourselves speak and opted to eat our food quickly in order to go to a quieter spot to unwind and to have a relaxed conversation.
La Societe pretends at ambience and sophistication when, it fact, it is all pretense. The food is decent but overpriced and over-produced. There is nothing defining about it at all.
If you like artifice and superficiality, this is the place for you. Otherwise, I'd give it a low passing grade and suggest that it update the premises, the menu, and the cooking to better reflect the C grade plates being offered currently.
We were very disappointed and will not go back because when my companion asked to substitute sliced tomato for the salad which came with her meal she was refused. The reason given was that they had only cherry tomatoes and when she said I could have the cherry tomatoes the waiter said the chef wont do it! Considering they took the time to phone prior to the lunch to ask about allergies and special occasions which is excellent I assume the problem is in the kitchen or with the wait staff.
When our main courses arrived, the frites were stone cold.
The waiter apologized and returned (10 mins. later!) with replacements.
Really not acceptable for a high-end place like this (with prices to match).
No other apologies offered.
On a positive note, I have dined here many times and have had very acceptable service and food.
The raw bar is a must - a charcuterie board that makes your mouth water - Steak frites to brag about - Duck confit that is out of this world - the kitchen was a little backed up but the ambiance lets you forget about the wait real quick and they make it up real fast with how delicious and flavourful the dishes are. I recommend everyone needs to try this place at least once and I guarantee you will be eager to come back again
Unlike previous visits this one was a bit disappointing. We were given a table next to a large and noisy group, even though in the booking we specified that we want to have a quite table. Upon request we were moved to another table - luckily it was a quite night so this was not a problem. Many clams did not have meat in them, and cold air was blowing on me from the ceiling. The atmosphere was as pleasant as always, as was the nice, friendly, and helpful waiter, and the main course. We'll give it another try.
The menu was quite lovely and the decor wonderful. However, sitting in the banquet area by the cutlery station was rather noisy. Also, the server was very slow and made 2 errors on our 3 person order. The French food wasn’t prepared in a French style (croque should be with sliced potatoe not wedges) and the mimosas were mostly orange juice. Thankfully my girlfriends and I were entertained by our conversation and enjoyed being together more than the dining experience. Would recommend for the decor and ambiance.
