Everything was great.
I wanted a place to host a business lunch meeting.
Sitting outside on the terrace at La Societe was perfect! I am happy to pay a premium for what I get in return. Excellent food, excellent service, at a convenient and interesting venue.
Even for budget-conscience financial managers like us, I don't think you can pay much less than $45 per person, all in, no drinks. Add a bottle of wine and you are looking at $65-70 per person.
Still, it's a great place with a fair price, in my opinion, for what is offered.
We were here to celebrate a birthday. The patio is really nice. However the food was a mixed bag. The mains were delicious (duck confit and the pappardelle) however the appetizer (escargot) left much to be desired. Enjoyed our time here but for the money I would dine elsewhere.
Had a wonderful lunch here... on the patio, first hot day of the year.
We shared a Nicoise and a steak... both were incredibly good, then went for dessert .. Mille feuille. To die for.....
Hope to be there lots over the summer!
The $1 oysters were a big hit the night we were there! Great location and upbeat ambiance for joining friends and eating good, more traditional fare. Yummy. Very pleasant restaurant experience.
There are a lot of choices for brunch in town and I was very excited to go to La Societe given I had heard some very good things. We started our brunch with a bloody mary and it was so disappointing...I make better. Our food was also average and the portions were itty bitty. We shared a dessert that 'profitleros' which were nothing at all like the dessert we both love! Would not go back.
Paul and the entire TEAM are SUPERSTARS at this classic and authentic French Bistro. Unbeatable location and dining space with a stunning patio for the summer time. Delicious food that is beautifully presented and well priced. If your visiting our AMAZING CITY, your dining experience at this establishment will compliment your trip superbly. This places SIZZLES in all aspects!!! This is a real review, I don't pad my comments to avoid hurting or upsetting people's feelings. Please keep going. Your salmon, and sausage both in-house were EPIC. The Lobster offering was flawlessly poached to render a succulent tail that was tasty. WELL DONE. TRES BIEN, et MAGNIFIQUES!!! Bravo. Outstanding bar section, formal dining and outdoor. Great for families, kids, or business. I am SOLD, are you? The management of this Resto are clearly and unequivocally ON POINT. The uniforms and staff shine.
Food is food court quality, service is either late of nonexistent. Glasses are questionably clean. Patio is very nice
Very good food, super thoughtful service, and has such a nice patio overlooking Bloor st.
Following a visit to the Gardiner Museum just around the corner, we recently tried La Societe for the first time for a special friend’s birthday. The bistro is impressive with it’s Belle Époque glass ceiling. Arriving early we headed to the bar for a drink. Wines by the glass were disappointing and all wines seriously over priced. We settled for a delicious Cava Rosado for $120, which we took to the table when we moved on to dinner. The main room is noisy even when not full. Food was also pricy for mostly bistro fare. That said the beet salad starter and main dish cod were both delicious. Bar and restaurant service was friendly and helpful. The evening was a success but Toronto has so many restaurants that offer fabulous food and wine for better value.
Now living outside Toronto, but returned recently for a visit and thoroughly enjoyed the same ambiance (maybe even better) from over 50 years ago when it was "Cafe de la paix" .
We ordered from the fixed price lunch menu, reasonably priced with many choices, and our meals were delicious!
Service was exemplary.
Being lunch, this restaurant was abuzz with activity, so noise level reflected that but I'm sure an evening meal would be the romantic and quiet ambiance that I remember from so long ago. Although the same company at the table, it would not be quite the same experience as the piano and player are no longer there.
Looking forward to making La Societe a regular haunt...like when we were young.
Fabulous as always! Elegant service and wonderful food.
It’s a pefect place for friends’ get together on a sunny day.
Definitely on the list for patios. Great place for catching lunch with friends. Pretty casual for a restaurant in Yorkville, but is definitely a neighbourhood favourite. Server was amazing and they really make use of details from using OpenTable (I.e. dietary requests etc). Stop by to pick on a charcuterie board for an afternoon snack
Great $1 oysters on Thursdays!
The decor and ambiance is lovely, but the food is just OK.
We had a fantastic time sitting on the patio for Brunch! They went above and beyond to accomodate our large group for a last minute patio request. The botomless mimosa/ceasar option will certainly bring us back many times over the summer.
This is my go to restaurant for Brunch. One of the best in town.
I've been to La Societe in the past and have had great experiences, but unfortunately, this time did not follow suit. The food (salmon benedict and beignets) was cold and underwhelming. The service was ok, nothing special, but definitely awkward. Maybe it's because this was on a Saturday during the Victoria Day long weekend, so the staff weren't feeling up to working - but it was just a lacklustre experience for me, which is a shame.
Had a great time! Food was delicious and our server was great! I recommend the bottomless mimosas!
It is advertised in social media that they have buck a shuck on Thursdays and by 7 they didn’t have oysters.
A restaurant that runs a sale like that for some many years need to plan accordingly for the demand, otherwise looks like false advertisement
I've been to La Societe twice in the last 6 months. The food is delicious and the restaurant is beautiful, which is why I gave it a second chance. Unfortunately, the service is horrible. During both experiences, our waiter was slow to serve us (not coming to get a drink order for 15+ minutes after being seated) and screwed up simple requests (forgetting a second round of drinks the first time, not listening to instructions for cesar preferences the 2nd time). They also never check to see how your meal is going (so you can correct/follow-up on the screw ups). It could be a great restaurant if they had better server quality.
Great decor and atmosphere. Friendly staff but not very attentive. For the price and hype of the place, the food did not ladder up. Only luke-warm, not enough sauce on any of our dishes and under seasoned - at a restaurant of this caliber, I should not need to add my own salt and pepper. Not a lot of care taken to plating, kind of just slopped on. I’ve had better eggs benny at a corner greasy spoon. Pretty disappointed however it was Mother’s Day and I wasn’t interested in spoiling our mood and making a stink. Also - tidy your bathrooms!
Was a bit factory setting due to Mother’s Day and the food was a bit rushed. Typically it’s a great spot with reasonable prices for food. Wine pricing is bordering on offensive these days. Just disappointing cause I’ll be leaning towards coffee vs wine as I just can’t spend 86 dollars on what I know cost 24 to buy. Shame.
Friendly, fast service. Food was excellent. The place physically looks great, it looks stylish while also being welcoming. I highly recommend it.
We had a lovely dinner at La Societé. The staff was amazing—so friendly and knowledgeable! The chefs accommodated my allergy easily without sacrificing taste in any of the dishes I ordered, which can sometimes be the case. La Societé combines excellent cuisine with professionalism and charm—the recipe for a splendid evening. C’est magnifique!
As always a pleasant experience. One of our go to places. Came on a Wednesday for the sea food platter special and enjoyed
Didn’t get the proper order
Had to call waiter three times
Eggs not cooked properly
The food took 1 hour to arrive at the table. I had also ordered a croissant and a scone, both of which never arrived. 2 of us ordered the exact same meal and they looked different. Mine was even missing the chives. I had to wait 10 minutes to get a coffee after the other drinks arrived at the table. I had to ask the server to remove the scone and croissant from the bill because he never brought them over. Terrible experience overall.
Service is atrocious. We were seated for more than 40 mins before having coffee, and our food arrived an hour and fifteen minutes before sitting down.
We had really great service from the moment we arrived. Friendly staff, and the food was amazing!
Completely over rated. Nice setting but menu is very average - ended up taking my date elsewhere for dessert and drinks. Don't waste a good night out going there
Went for a birthday dinner. Lively, chic atmosphere. Very good food. The oysters were outstanding. Our 2nd time at La Societe. Plan to come back again!
Well worth the price! I had brunch reservation and I had read older reviews where there were concerns about noise level and service, but la Societe was so accommodating towards us (we were very late). Our food was seriously amazing - we sat there eating instead of talking because of how delicious it was; our server was so attentive and somehow managed to secretly speak to one of my friends to confirm if it was my birthday and bring out a desert with a candle. I had the Boeuf Braise, my friends had the croque madame, Benedict aux Epinards and we were truly satisfied on every level... if we lived in Toronto we would be back next week for it but we don’t and we’re still looking for another excuse to brunch at La Societe. Well done and thank you!
Great cocktails. A nice tucked away bistro from the craziness of Bloor Street.
The quiche was light and very good. The salad dressing perfect. Service good. Decor beautiful especially the stained glass ceiling piece.
Slimy shrimp cocktail, entrees left under the heat lamp far too long and embarrassing desserts.
Cassoulet should be like a stew not dried up beans. Restaurant was empty yet food took forever.
Server had to be new, or at least I hope he was.
My family were celebrating my husband’s birthday. The service was excellent, the ambience is lovely with stain glass ceiling.
However the food was very disappointing. I had a endive salad, the dressing was too tart. CoD was very very salty. My daughter had the bouillabaisse which was bland. My husband had duck. He said it was just ok. All in all it was little disappointing.
Beautiful decor; confortable seats. Food has its up and down. Went there twice. The first time I had mussels that were Plump with a nice tomato sauce with no acidity. The second time I had the bouillabaisse that I thought would be similar to the Mussels I had previously. What a deception! The cook should revise his recipe and look at how a standard bouillabaisse should be made.
A perfect place to grab a bite to eat while shopping in Yorkville!
