La Sirena Clandestina
Nestled west of Chicago's Magnificent Mile and east of the United Center, La Sirena Clandestina recalls the sneak-away beachside joints of coastal Brazil that inspires its name ‘hidden mermaid.’ Chef John Manion serves Latin-local fare with influences that draw on his childhood in Brazil as well as two decades cooking in Chicago. Established in 2012 and given the Jean Banchet Award by the Chicago Tribune for Best Neighborhood Restaurant, La Sirena Clandestina has reviewed in publications such as Men's Journal, Food & Wine and Michigan Avenue Magazine. Its charming atmosphere with candlelit tables makes it an ideal setting for a date.
La Sirena Clandestina serves lunch, brunch and dinner.
Guests can try a variety of freshly prepared dishes like la bomba rice, grilled hanger steak with chimichurri and head-on prawns. This Fulton Market gem has a full bar that offers various drinks, including wine.

What Insiders Are Saying
La Sirena Cladestina is serving up Brazilian food in Fulton Market. It's small but always buzzing.
Delicious food and decent service, but music was very loud. Some of the OpenTable reviews noted "Good for a date", but I wouldn't come here for a first date if you plan on having a conversation with the other person. Seating was also very tight, meaning you are within earshot of other people's conversations, so communication is made even more difficult when everybody is trying to talk over their neighbors. For the same reasons, we also had trouble hearing our server.
I enjoyed the food that we ordered, as did my Brazilian date: The feijoada (beans and rice) was flavorful. Also would recommend the mushroom-balsamic empanada, the churrasco (flank steak) and pao de queijo (cheese bread).
Bottom line, come for the food and with friends that you already know.
Love the hip vibe! The food is phenomenal and the service is top notch! Perfection in every way!!!!
Really cute and cozy place with Brazilian inspired menu. Everything we tried was great! Highly recommend for date night.
Love the ambience, service is top notch, but the food is over priced. I have no problem paying for great food, but it just misses the mark for me. That being said, I’ve been back several times for the cocktails and an appetizer or two, and will again. The entrees just fall flat for me and leave me a bit disappointed.
Small place, very cozy and intimate. Very good food and drinks with great ambiance.
Perfect Brunch spot. Cozy w/ great food. Definitely want to return to try dinner.
GO TO THIS RESTAURANT OFTEN. NEVER FAILS, WHETHER ITS BRUNCH OR DINNER. FOOD IS CONSISTENT AND ALWAYS GOOD. GREAT DRINKS. PITCHERS OF MIMOSAS FOR BRUNCH ARE VERY GOOD!
Derric was an amazing waiter and host! We would return for the food, but more so for the his guidance and warm smile!
Had a good time .. loved the ambience
The food is mediocre and overpriced. This restaurant is benefiting from its location and its past reputation. If you decide to go there, do not do that because of their food. Pick another reason or just go elsewhere.
Thank to all of you especially our greeter and barman who accommodated our very early arrival very patiently and kindly; to Jack Mercola, a sommelier in a million with a uniquely ambitious and imaginative wine list, to our mermaid who recommended the fried cauliflower which is delicious. You were charming and delightful, thank you.
Tables too close together impossible
Cute, energetic restaurant; impeccable service throughout the night and food was cooked to perfection (particularly the empanada and churrasco)
Very creative and super tasty approach on comfort food, very pleasant atmosphere with great, zealous and super friendly staff. They serve you with pleasure and wrap you in cotton balls while they do so.
Enjoyed the Beet salad and old fashioned! Service was also top notch.
Great place for a experiential dining! The food was fun and inventive not to mention delicious!!! Highly recommend!!
Great service helped us understand the menu to make for a great celebratory meal. We will return.
Unreal staff and management. They made our anniversary very special and one to remember. Not to mention the food was bomb!
The food was not what we had hoped! We had heard such great reviews. Our steak was extremely fatty and the sides that we ordered were not tasty. We will not go back.
Love this spot!! Small, dimly lit, great service and food!!!
Interesting menu, with a Brazilian twist. The rice and beans were the best we all ever had. We would have liked the chicken dish except for all the bone shards and slivers. Probably shouldn’t prep chicken thighs in that manner. Enjoyed the steak and fries and seafood soup. The service was excellent and cocktails and wine were very tasty and enjoyable. We all agree we would enjoy returning.
Enjoyed the Saturday Brunch menu! Plenty of interesting choices - French Toast bites were Crisp and Fluffy with perfect level of sweetness. Pisco Sour on Point. Tasso Benedict had incredible smoky hollandaise. Best Part - Staff was friendly and engaging - will be back soon.
Been there a couple of times and the quality of the service has been declining considerably. Unfortunately.
It was an extraordinary experience on all levels. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. The noise level and lighting were perfect. Food was freakin' tasty as Hell, executed perfectly. Mocequa, fried chicken, cauliflower, heirloom carrots, beet salad, and alfajores was our menu. Seriously, I don't have anything but complete compliments. It was paced perfectly. Wine, cocktail, and spirit-free nailed it. I am rarely impressed with service when I go out, but this time I was blown away by the entire staff! Specifically, Lily took care of us... and damn!
I don't give out five stars very often. I just don't believe any restaurant is perfect for me. LSC killed it on our first time there. It was just an enjoyable meal with superb ingredients superbly executed. We had fried cauliflower. Nothing special; just really satisfying. For entrees, we split first a seafood stew called Moqueca on the menu. The only issue here was WTF they didn't offer bread with this, since it is a fish broth with lots of yummy fish. Asked for bread to sop that jus up, man! After that, they brought us the ribeye with that delicious garlicky chimichurri. Cooked perfectly MR and served with garlic fries. Damn delicious, succulent piece of meat with nice char on exterior.
Service was very good, with server nailing the wine pairings without much effort. Nice interior space and vibe; bartenders were having fun with eighties new wave, which worked for me perfectly.
See you all again soon to try other items on the menu.
We are there almost 2 y ago . And may I say it was much better that is why we came back . But nothing seemed as we remembered it . Everything was pretty average .
What a wonderful evening. Our waitress was so sweet and kept everything flowing perfect. The food was incredible from the appetizer to desert. The general manager stopped by our table to make certain everything was perfect, and it couldn’t have been any better. Make the trip you will not be disappointed, Maybe we will even see you there as this is going to be a regular stop for us while visiting Chicago. Thanks so much for making our evening so perfect.
We really enjoyed our brunch! The drinks and food were great! I can't wait to come back again soon!
Great spot in the West Loop. Food portions were of a good size and the quality was there. The service was great abd the craft cocktails are a must. It’s a nice change from some of the big restaurants out there. The nice, small, intimate enviroment makes La Sirena Clandestina special. Oh and it is affirdable which is the icing in the cake.
This was our first time here and we had an outstanding experience! The food and cocktails were a 10/10 and we would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for a delicious, authentic and unique dining experience.
We can’t wait to come back!!
The food and service was great. Cocktails were fun and interesting. A cool space but a tad bit noisy. The flavors were fun, the chicken was a tad bit overcooked
A fantastic spot! Variations on the Brazilian/Argentine dishes are delicious and different while maintaining the core of what it is. Having a varied set of choices both with/without meat including the moqueca, a regional specialty item hard to find at any US restaurant. All the dishes had a wow factor including the empanada! And the drinks, both the alcoholic (caipirinha) and non-alcoholic (tepache), were super tasty and well-made (being from a Brazilian family, I am particular about caipirinhas)! Great meal overall!
Great little neighborhood gem. Food and drinks always good. Nice brunch place as well
Great food, small menu and attentive service. Cocktails were amazing - recommend the pisco sour and caipirinha!
Amazing food and service. Really great date night!
Consistently excellent food on a Brazilian theme for lunch, dinner, brunch. The wine selections are interesting, good, and good value.
Fantastic restaurant! My friend and I were delighted with our food! Order the bread. The empanadas are delicious and have a perfect Smokey taste. Our seafood dish was so flavorful we were very happy with our meal
Excellent love it... everything was perfect. Grt friendly staff & very attentive.
