La Sirena Clandestina
Nestled west of Chicago's Magnificent Mile and east of the United Center, La Sirena Clandestina recalls the sneak-away beachside joints of coastal Brazil that inspires its name ‘hidden mermaid.’ Chef John Manion serves Latin-local fare with influences that draw on his childhood in Brazil as well as two decades cooking in Chicago. Established in 2012 and given the Jean Banchet Award by the Chicago Tribune for Best Neighborhood Restaurant, La Sirena Clandestina has reviewed in publications such as Men's Journal, Food & Wine and Michigan Avenue Magazine. Its charming atmosphere with candlelit tables makes it an ideal setting for a date.

What Insiders Are Saying
La Sirena Cladestina is serving up Brazilian food in Fulton Market. It's small but always buzzing.
We enjoyed La Sirena, starting with a sparkling rose; fried chicken, cleaved, bones and all, lightly breaded, super-deep-fried til almost burnt, drizzled with lime , jalapenos, and cilantro; not much but kind of fun trying to eat, I guess, chewing/cutting to find scant morsels of actual meat. Also, fries, intensely salted, with aioli dipping sauce. Then, mocqueca, a spare, dry version, very little soup; and fried whole fish, flavorful but on the edge of dry, with an oily lemony arugula and peanut salad ladled over. The Podengo, a cachaca Manhattan, delicious. Dessert: a banana split, and a thin butter sandwich cookie with dulce de leche filling, and a La Lorena, an after-dinner drink with fermented pineapple. We were celebrating a birthday; they did not forget! On a celebratory occasion we maintain a happy mood and don’t nitpick. This restaurant is a profit engine, with a small cooking space, and a simple menu at a high markup. Nevertheless it has enough of a whiff of the exotic to be a fun time for an occasional visitor. The bartender treated us to a taste of a wonderful smoky mescal!
Amazing drinks! This is a must for date night or to just have a couple empanadas by yourself at the bar. It's small so definitely make reservations. Can't wait to go back.
Overall, not very satisfied with the food and service. Our food was overcooked and not worth the price, did not taste good. The service was very mediocre. If you’re planning on eating in this area, I highly recommend checking out the other restaurants in the area.
Appetizers were good, entree was good-whole fish fried. However, stay away from “brûléed “ banana split, banana was over ripe/bruised and the ice cream was “runny”. Should have returned it!
Lovely ambience. Excellent service. Though we preferred some dishes over others, that’s more personal taste and the food was all delicious.
It’s a shame. Drinks were great. Service was timely. Food was delicious. Everything was going so well until I left for the bathroom and one of the staff blatantly came on to my fiancé as she was sitting alone at the table. No cause for alarm yet. She’s beautiful. Understandable. However, this not so gentle-man proceeded to flirt and ask her out after receiving a firm “no”. She was uncomfortable and wisely relayed this to me after we had left the restaurant. Needless to say, we won’t be returning.
Great service, tasty cocktails, and delicious food! Smaller space so it’s intimate.
Great little happy hour! Awesome chance to try some of the food at a good price. Bartender was happy to give recommendations and service was great.
Wonderful experience. It was loud enough n there, but I’ll go back.
Amazing food & drinks! Came for happy hours after work and it was the perfect choice.
I used to love this restaurant! I hadn't been in a while and was excited to take friends here who had never been for the first time. The service first of all was fantastic, I have nothing to complain about there. However the quality of the food is just not where it used to be. Everything was greasy, heavy and/or overcooked. The steak frites had an aggressive raw tomato and raw onion relish that overpowered the tough and rubbery steak. There was so much garlic on the fries I felt like I could breathe fire afterwards. Most of the dishes we got were over-salted and greasy. I am so sad, I hope to come back and have a better experience next time because this is classically one of my all time favorite restaurants in the city.
Absolutely delicious food and fantastic service! Our waiter had great suggestions too! We will be back!
Superb service from the moment we entered the restaurant till we departed, having thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Not too noisy to prevent conversation. Great atmosphere. Definitely worth revisiting!
Food was great! Will definitely recommend it and be back!
There is not a better place to take a date - especially a first date. Great food, sexy atmosphere, fantastic service.
Amazing service. Staff was great at recommending what to order. Cocktails were amazing and the food was superb. Great location across from Google and Swift & Sons, as well as down the street from Ace Hotel. Can’t wait to come back and see what else they have in store.
Black beans and chicken thighs lacked flavor. Tiny bones all in the thighs. It's just not a place I think I would go back to but perfectly understand the attraction others may have to it.
fantastic food , service and atmosphere
I met a a friend for dinner. The service was excellent. We shared a wonderfully prepared rib eye steak and kale salad It was delicious! It is a bit noisy to talk but it’s a keeper. Yummy
Deric was our server. He super nice and was very knowledgeable of the menu. The food was amazing, as well as the drinks. I would recommend this place to anyone and I want to go back soon.
A little pricey but really solid option in the west loop
It is a very small restaurant but offering a Brazilian menu and only having 3-4 meat option dinners is below acceptable. I ordered Pork Milanesa, the food seemed dry, there was not much flavor to it. No value for your money whatsoever. Pretty disappointed. The only good thing I would say are the staff there.
Awesome food & drinks. Great happy hour!
Went at about 9:30 on a Monday so the place was pretty empty. Food is savory and flavorful which is expected of Brazilian cuisine and the Brazilian old fashioned is a must try. Will definitely come back
Great Restaurant Week menu!
The empanadas and bomba rice were excellent. The beef was bad. When the fried fish arrived our server asked whether we wanted the fish boned. He proceeded to remove half of the one side, left the bone in and walked away. The apple empanadas were bad. How can you go wrong with essentially apple pie? I like the ambiance and I hope they can turn this cute restaurant around.
Such nice service👌🏽 Food was to die for it’s woryh every penny and good as leftovers too👏🏽 Try to beat rush hour for dinner though because we made reservations and still had to wait almost 45 minutes to be seated. All in all great place❤️
Superb experience. We will continue to dine here. Every item was great, particularly the whole fried branzino. Don’t forget the wonderful Caipirinhas!
Great experience. The tablets were a bit too close together so I felt a part of theirs dinners. The dinner was delicious and the happy hour was a great deal.
Great food, lovely atmosphere. A little loud if you’re trying for a meaningful conversation, but not impossible.
My wife’s 36th Birthday.
Awesome food but very expensive.
Delicious food and decent service, but music was very loud. Some of the OpenTable reviews noted "Good for a date", but I wouldn't come here for a first date if you plan on having a conversation with the other person. Seating was also very tight, meaning you are within earshot of other people's conversations, so communication is made even more difficult when everybody is trying to talk over their neighbors. For the same reasons, we also had trouble hearing our server.
I enjoyed the food that we ordered, as did my Brazilian date: The feijoada (beans and rice) was flavorful. Also would recommend the mushroom-balsamic empanada, the churrasco (flank steak) and pao de queijo (cheese bread).
Bottom line, come for the food and with friends that you already know.
Love the hip vibe! The food is phenomenal and the service is top notch! Perfection in every way!!!!
Really cute and cozy place with Brazilian inspired menu. Everything we tried was great! Highly recommend for date night.
Love the ambience, service is top notch, but the food is over priced. I have no problem paying for great food, but it just misses the mark for me. That being said, I’ve been back several times for the cocktails and an appetizer or two, and will again. The entrees just fall flat for me and leave me a bit disappointed.
Small place, very cozy and intimate. Very good food and drinks with great ambiance.
Perfect Brunch spot. Cozy w/ great food. Definitely want to return to try dinner.
GO TO THIS RESTAURANT OFTEN. NEVER FAILS, WHETHER ITS BRUNCH OR DINNER. FOOD IS CONSISTENT AND ALWAYS GOOD. GREAT DRINKS. PITCHERS OF MIMOSAS FOR BRUNCH ARE VERY GOOD!
