About Concord Branch - La Sen Bistro
Concord Branch - La Sen Bistro is an offshoot of Berkeley's La Rose Bistro. After many years of serving to loyal customers of theater go-ers and the nearby UC Berkeley patrons, La Rose Bistro transplanted itself to downtown Concord to become Concord Branch - La Sen Bistro.
With the same vision of serving great food, you will enjoy the classic California-French samples of duck confit, salmon in saffron sauce, lamb racks, and escargot - just to name a few. Our great food was recognized by the Michelin Guide in 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012 as well as the Zagat survey. Come join us at Concord Branch - La Sen Bistro for a glass of wine and a taste of California-French cuisine. Cheers to good food and great companies. Bon Appetit!

Concord Branch - La Sen Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Ambiance and food very good. Service needs attention. Server lost eye contact so could not ask for things. Water/coffee not replenished when needed. Spoon not supplied for 2 orders that needed spoons. Was told that manager said not to supply spoon for the entree that had lots of beef sauce. Can't use a fork for that so 2 people had to leave the sauce - which was a very good sauce. Not many in the restaurant at the time so that would not be good excuse for ignoring customer for too long. Food very good but there are too many good restaurants to go back after a negative experience. Having spent many years in the food-service industry, I can only advise the management - TRAIN YOUR SERVERS NOT TO LOSE EYE CONTACT WITH CUSTOMERS; the dining experience is more than the food.

We have gone here often but feel the food remains good but misses are happening and the service has been poor because there is only one person to take orders, wait on tables, clear tables and that leaves us wondering if we are getting a nice experience or one I'd just rather not have....we probably won't be back....although loved it for awhile.
It's small, quiet, with excellent service -- and really good French food. My wife thoroughly enjoyed a rib-eye steak with garlic pommes frites. She reports the French onion soup was the best she has had anywhere. We both enjoyed the unusual, very tasty cilantro/garlic dipping sauce with fresh bread. I had a pear salad and the evening special, a lamb ragout on risotto (that doesn't sound very French but it was quite good!) with baked butternut squash -- excellent. For dessert we shared little apple-blueberry pastries with vanilla ice cream that were superb (my wife quickly abandoned her promise to have just one bite). I had been in the mood for French food for a time (in our area there seem to be few options) and had never been here. We enjoyed it immensely.
Always enjoy La Sen....I travel to Paris frequently for work and the quality of the food prepared here is on par with that I expect in France....have not been disappointed. My only complaint is typically on Saturday evenings they tend to not have enough Staff to handle the tables in Concord location. I am hearing that Walnut Creek location is bigger and have more wait staff available so might try that location next time.
The food was absolutely superb. Nothing could possibly be done to improve it. The onion soup was delicious and the entrees (we both had beef) were food of the gods. The waiter was attentive and thoughtful but he is young and lacks a dignified decorum. He also has long, unkempt hair that should have been tied back or covered.
The food was great, the atmosphere was pleasant and has a local neighborhood feel. The price was reasonable. In Walnut Creek or SF the prices would be at least 20% higher for the quality of food. However, I was even more impressed with the service. I will definitely be going back.
They don't answer their phone, but the reason is because they have a small staff, and they are devoted to providing excellent service to their customers. If they answered the phone all the time, that excellent service would suffer. GO ANYWAY!! The food is ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!
The food was delicious and beautifully prepared. The atmosphere was charming. We were in a good mood and it was my birthday.
Right from the start, however, we noticed that our waiter never made eye contact with us and seemed uncomfortable. He didn't tell us the specials, bring us bread, or dessert... and we were the only table he had for the first 25 minutes we were there. He was unfriendly. The man clearly has no future in the food service industry. Being able to pronounce menu items should not qualify someone for a job in such an otherwise lovely French restaurant.
Fortunately, there was another waiter there who noticed our plight and started taking care of us. He brought us several glasses of water, bread, and dessert. He was intelligent, charming, friendly and everything we hoped for in a waiter.
Unfortunately we were a bit disappointed. We made dinner reservations for 4 but when we arrived, there was no table reserved for us. We had to wait at the bar until a table was available. We were given glasses of champagne - I'm assuming to compensate for the lack of a table. When we got the table, a couple of us weren't given napkins or bread plates. The food was decent and the rest of the service was ok, but first impressions we're not very good.
We arrived at 5p on Wednesday mostly all tables were open. Service was excellent, started with escargot and it was delicious. We had been to Paris just last year and were hoping to find a local place that was most authentic. My husband got the duck confit it was cooked perfectly and seasoned beautifully. I ordered the braison beef. It was again cooked beautifully and seasoned very well. This was our first visit but we are already excited to visit again and explore more of the menu.
Love this restaurant, but it was 101 degrees out and their a/c was not working very well so that
detracted from the overall dining experience. Love that you can bring own wine and corkage is only $15. The food is always delightful and the desserts are fabulous. I highly recommend this great local restaurant.
