About

This restaurant is permanently closed. Concord Branch - La Sen Bistro is an offshoot of Berkeley's La Rose Bistro. After many years of serving to loyal customers of theater go-ers and the nearby UC Berkeley patrons, La Rose Bistro transplanted itself to downtown Concord to become Concord Branch - La Sen Bistro.

With the same vision of serving great food, you will enjoy the classic California-French samples of duck confit, salmon in saffron sauce, lamb racks, and escargot - just to name a few. Our great food was recognized by the Michelin Guide in 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012 as well as the Zagat survey. Come join us at Concord Branch - La Sen Bistro for a glass of wine and a taste of California-French cuisine. Cheers to good food and great companies. Bon Appetit!

Saturday evening's dinner definitely did not live up to expectations. I have dined there many times in the past and always had exceptional service and food. When I asked for a Rhone style wine I had there before, I was told they no longer carry it, but that they had a really good Meritage ( I don't remember the label, I thought it was Masters, but it was from Paso Robles). This evening I was served a warm glass of this recommended Rhone blend or Bordeaux style wine or Meritage. It was much warmer than room temperature, almost hot so I asked that it be replaced. At no time was I told this wine was $14/glass which I never would have paid. The next failure was in the entrees. Two of us wanted to order mussels or scallops and were told they didn't have any, nor did they have the escargot. Very disappointing for this French bistro. I ordered boeuf bourguignon and was very disappointed. It was all beef: no onions, carrots, or mushrooms. The sauce was good, but the dish was no where near the classic French boeuf bourguignon. The owner stopped by our table to chat and we told him how disappointed we were about the lack of the shell fish and he said, "Oh, we have mussels and scallops. Do you want to change your order?" Too late. On the way out we noticed a woman had ordered mussels. The dining partners who ordered the lamb loin special were quite happy with their dish, but two of us were very unhappy. In addition, we were charged $2.00 to split a salad. I always think this is a petty charge by a restaurant. Very unnecessary. I did not recognize any of the wait staff. Perhaps they have undergone a big change since the last time I dined there a year ago. When I am in Concord I always go to La Sen for dinner and have recommended it to others. Not this time.

Made a reservation for Good Friday dinner at 6:30PM, which was honored and the place was full. It looked like they only had two wait staff and it took a bit of time to get our drinks ordered and receive the fabulous bread and dip. We were in no hurry so it was not a big deal for us. Gary, our waiter, finally got caught up and took our order. Calamari and Cesar salad staters. The calamari portion was just right and the Cesar was good. For the mains, we had seared scallops on mushroom ravioli and pork chop with some roasted veggies and a slice of fried polenta. All were very good. The only thing that could have been better is the tenderness of the mushroom ravioli. The pasta wasn't melt-in-your-mouth tender, but the filling and sauce were excellent. Overall, this is an excellent restaurant and a good value. Be patient when they're busy.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the Bay Area. I have loved everything I have tried here, especially the beef bourguignon (although they often run out of it) and the filet mignon. The authentic roquefort salad is delicious, and the desserts are worth the splurge. Highly recommend!

The meal was very enjoyable. The food met our highest expectations. Nice flavor and good portions. The wheelchair access was excellent. Service was responsive and not intrusive. I plan to come again and again.

Service was a little slow. I think there may have been only 2 employees (the Chef and the waiter), but overall good. Been here before, will most definitely come back

went there for 40th wedding anniversary which, the only waiter acknowledged, but failed to do anything to celebrate, not even a candle. also, did not scrape table , left crumbs laying there on white linen the whole meal. it's little things like the above that raise the experience. He did not. I've seen multiple reviews that echo what i've said, good food poor attention to detail. actually, when a restaurant runs out of menus, you know mgt. needs a little help.
C'mon owners, get a bus boy and train that waiter !!!!!

Fantastic French Food. Well cooked, well flavored and beautifully served. Menu and wine list are excellent. Cost is very reasonable for the quality of service, food and atmosphere. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys fine din ing.
