My girlfriend and I went to La Scala for our one year anniversary together. We sure picked the right place to celebrate it. The ambiance was very to our liking and the food was fantastic. She got the Raffaello and I got the Gamberi Luana for dinner; each were tremendously delicious. The wine selection was extensive, but we had no problem finding what we wanted. A cake was given to us at the end of our meal to celebrate our year together. Willy was very courteous and helpful with our dinner tonight. I will hope to be back again soon or, at the very least, recommend it to my friends and family.
Took a recommendation for the best spot in Little Italy and couldn't have been more impressed. My father, who has been known to be fairly picky, repeatedly said it was the best Italian he'd ever had, thanked both the chef and the owner, and stopped to shake our exceptional waiter's hand on the way out. The service is prompt and conscientious (Carlos always waited for a lull in conversation to come by and check on us), the food is incredible (the grilled caesar, the pollo rafaello, and the spinach fettuccine were all standouts), and the wine list is novel length, but reasonable. Our bill for three was around $150 and that included two salads, three entrees, four beers, two glasses of wine, and two desserts. Not bad for goodbye dinner splurge. Chat with the owner if you can. She's a lovely woman and was thrilled to tell us all about her food, much of which is handmade in house. She's probably around 75, and she still makes all the cannoli cream herself. Absolutely wonderful.
My first time there. Absolutely loved it. Great food and service and had a great vibe.
Carbonara done the _right_ way, with an egg. Penne alla vodka that has heat as you enjoy every bite.
There are very few things in life that are consistent, loyal and a go-to. This is one of those places. When we lived in Baltimore, it was a 25 minute jaunt for a special night out. As Philadelphians, it's a decent drive for an extraordinary dinner.
It's that good.
Overall our experience was excellent. My only knock would be “value”, since I ordered a $30 plate of pasta with crab and shrimp, and I had two shrimp on my plate, and almost no crab meat. Service was absolutely excellent. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a nice place to have a meal.
A restaurant with delicious and authentic Italian food.
Great food, fabulous service, a perfect evening! Highly recommend!
Nice atmosphere great food with amazing service
Food is always good. Highly recommend.
This restaurant is well-hidden, but worth the effort to find it! We were led thru a maze of intimate dining rooms to get to our table. It felt like being invited to into the home of a large Italian family, very homey and intimate. The menu is extensive, with many excellent choices and all the dishes we selected were most delectable! The service was top-notch, and very attentive. What a wonderful dining experience! Will return every time I am in Baltimore in the future!
Actually our experience this year was not the same as past years when we have gone. We normally make it a must stop on our weekend to Baltimore for the cheer competition we attend every year. The service was awful two meals came out ice cold and very flavorless and bland. Sent back both meals never any apology for the meals or anyone even coming to the table. In years past the chef has walked around you would think of there was a problem with two meals at same table someone or something would have been addressed. Not sure we will make this a must next competition.
This was not a pleasant experience. We were on a special birthday dinner. Our waiter, Antonio, took over 42 minutes to take our appetizer orders!!! So we ordered everything at once. The table next to us - 4 men- were seated 15 minutes after we were seated, were served their wine, appetizers, and dinners before we were even asked for our orders. Yes, we asked, and yes they had a different waiter.
On top of that, the restaurant sets up bins to collect the dinner plates rather than removing them to the kitchen. The waiters literally ‘dump’ them into the bins which are scattered throughout the dining areas. We were not seated right next to them but across the room. The continued clanking if dinner dishes was annoying and endless!!! Just wish them to the kitchen. Add the staff. Take more steps. Whatever!!! Stop the noise!!!!
No real meaningful apology from Antonio other than I had an 8 table - what could I do?
Would not recommend. Too noisy, bad service, not bad taste but not worth the hassle. Too many other lovely choices in little italy.
Great food, staff and free shuttle to our hotel!
We were celebrating a special occasion and had a lovely table on the second floor above the indoor bocce ball court. There was a lively match going on and the party got really loud at times, hooting and hollering at several points in the game. Very startling and obnoxious during an otherwise exceptional dinner and evening. I wish the management would have intervened and requested they avoid the loud outbursts. It would have been appropriate and courteous. They could have still have had fun with their game. It seemed very out of place to have this going on at such an upscale restaurant. The food was spectacular and the service good. Overall it was an amazing meal and evening, despite that one issue.
Always the best, ambiance, food, and people.
We had a delicious meal while visiting Baltimore with family. The service was outstanding with great attention paid to our daughter who has celiac and requires a gluten-free diet. The food was made to order and one of the best Italian meals I’ve had in a long time.
Best restaurant in town! Everything was perfect from the homemade pasta to the Espresso Martini. Fabulous service. Great atmosphere.
Exceptional dinner and service. We will definitely be back. Best Italian food in the state!
Great meal. Great ambiance. We were kind of surprised that we could get a last minute reservation on a Saturday night, but we lucked out and got in. They even had a shuttle to/from our hotel, which we weren't previously that they offered.
The service was great. I'm a big water drinker and my glass was always full. I had veal and my husband had a fish special, both were wonderful!
Wonderful food, wine selection and service. Will definitely go back again.
La Scala is one of our favorites. We always go here for our birthday dinners. The food is always top notch and the staff is incredible. We get the lobster and crab pasta special every time, it’s what keeps us coming back. They also have a bocce court inside their restaurant, which is so fun before or after you eat.
La Scala continues to be my “go to” Italian Restaurant in Baltimore. The restaurant offers a complimentary shuttle service from downtown spots making it quick and easy to get to and from La Scala. The wait staff is attentive and certainly adds to the experience. The food is great. I have never been disappointed.
Excellent food and service. Best meal we had in Baltimore while visiting. Excellent value for quality and portion of food! Wait staff were very attentive.
This restaurant was excellent. I loved the food and in my opinion is the best restaurant in little itlaly. I will definitely go back to this restaurant in the future. My whole family was amazed at the food. The service was good too. They got everything correct and were pretty quick. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an Italian place to eat.
Never disappointed with the food, the service, and the ambiance.
Simply one of the best in Baltimore Little Italy. A go to “staple” for people who want the best food and service.
We had an excellent experience...good from the moment we got there. Excellent appetizers, salads, and entrees. Several different "by the glass" wines were sampled, all very satisfactory. Service was fine...the only negative--which I have found at other good Italian restaurants--is the standard accompanying pasta in marinara sauce--very forgettable. But it was easy to overlook this minor annoyance by focusing on the real reason we came--excellent Italian food. A suggestion when you make reservations...try to get seated in one of the smaller rooms...the larger room where we were was fairly noisy. Again, only a minor annoyance.
This is so great in every way! Interesting decor...energetic without being noisy. Great atmosphere. GREAT service. Attention to detail. Fresh ingredients. Exquisitely prepared food. A friendly chef/owner who cares about his patrons. Lovely wine, good cocktails. The Bronzino is absolutely the best fish I've ever eaten. Terrific gnocchi. And the grilled Caesar...I mean, what's not to like? A favorite, always!
Great experience at La Scala. Excellent food and Celiac friendly!
Outstanding. A not to miss restaurant!
Food and service were outstanding as always. Great atmosphere and great time
Service was great. Willie was outstanding as a waiter. Food was ok not bad, not the best evet
LOVE La Scala. Has been one of my favorite restaurants since I found it several year ago. I took my boyfriend out to celebrate our anniversary. We were there around 10:30pm which is rather later. I understood the encouragement to get our orders in quickly before the kitchen closed. Crab/shrimp Alfredo was AMAZING a always. this time the calamari was extremely, extremely salty and we wasted at least 30-40% of it.
Overall great food and nice experience. Entrees were excellent and server was nice. A couple of notes: 1) Asked for a glass of the House Merlot. The house wine should be less expensive than other wines in the wine book or at least the same as the most inexpensive. It was not. 2) Antipasto for $14.95. Should have a little bit more meat for the cost. 3) Shouldn’t have seating were you dump off all the dishes. Was a little loud sitting by the curtain upstairs
Classy place. Best in bmore
As always, La Scala was delicious! Food was perfect, service was wonderful.
I love the food and atmosphere at LaScala but they are very strict about offering substitutions for meals. We had an individual with our party that had an allergy to pasta and they would not substitute vegetables and were adamant about it. The manager came out to discuss the issue and he was not helpful or inviting. It was a weird situation. The waiter proceeded to bring pasta to the person who had the allergy after the ordeal which was very insensitive. These days people have several diet restrictions and restaurants should be accommodating. We would have paid for the substitution but once the situation was escalated and no one showed concern we were mad.
Delicious food and large enough portion to bring home half for lunch!
The best whole fish (filet done perfectly tableside) was the best fish I have ever eaten.
