La Scala Ratings and Reviews
Can't say enough about the wonderful evening we had. Reserving the shuttle removed the hassle of parking and traffic; the wait staff were perfectly friendly and attentive; the interior is beautiful; and the food was delicious. My fiance and I went for a romantic dinner and found La Scala to be perfect for just that. It was Valentine's weekend and saw a number of other couples - but clearly it is a popular choice for large groups and friends as well. There is even a bocce ball court on the ground floor! But our romantic night was removed from that, so although the noise was a bit more than expected it was just the right level for my partner and I to enjoy conversation without either whispering or yelling.
I am not an expert on Italian food, but both our meals and our appetizer were great. The stand out though was the cream puff dessert. It comes in a sort of mousse/airy pudding that is some of the best chocolate I've ever tasted. I highly recommend if you like chocolatey or creamy desserts.
Recommending La Scala to friends, without hesitation.
This is our second time at La Scala and again it was wonderful.. I requested a quiet table and we were again shown the same lovely quiet table upstairs. The food was delicious, we both had veal dishes along with the mushroom appetizer. Unfortunately the meal was so filling that we did not have room to enjoy their delicious sounding desserts. The wait staff was very attentive. A real gem and a short walk from our hotel- The Hyatt Harbor Place. We -my wife and I-highly recommend it!
For my husband's birthday, we decided to try La Scala as it was one of the Little Italy venues we had not visited before. The ambiance is very nice, we were upstairs where there are murals and other nice touches of Italy. They had a birthday card waiting for him (nice touch) and also brought his dessert with a candle ... and thankfully, no singing! The service was wonderful. They even have a bocce court (no one was playing) downstairs.
The main issue: the food was underwhelming and inconsistent. My crab and artichoke appetizer was so-so, nice fresh lump crabmeat, paired with canned artichoke hearts that had a metallic taste in an overly powerful lemon caper sauce. My husband had the "polenta with cognac mushroom" appetizer and some slices of polenta were slightly scorched and the sauce was bland. Their bread (both regular and garlic) was wonderful.
Then, main courses. My husband had the osso bucco special and really raved about it. It wasn't as heavy as some places and was served over linguini. I had the veal saltimbocca and, again, the sauce was the flaw. The veal was plentiful and tender, sage was fresh, and the prosciutto and cheese were top quality. But the sauce was also bland and seemed to be thickened with corn starch, no buttery mouth feel at all. The side pasta was fine.
Dessert: My husband's tiramisu was very good. Cannoli is made "differently" (the waiter explained) and doesn't have ricotta. I tried the hazelnut flavor and while the filing was tasty (not like cannoli, however), the shell was a bit stale so I left that largely behind.
In summary, while this was a pleasant place to spend a birthday, with so many restaurants in Little Italy, it will be a while before we cycle back here. But the people are REALLY nice.
From the warm greeting at the door to the very elegant service we received, our visit was delightful. The food was just delicious. We started with a lovely cheese plate and continued with our entrees. It all sounded so delicious we decided to each order an entree and then we divided them into thirds=plenty for everyone with some to take home. The pasta is light with perfect texture and the other dishes were cooked to perfection. We ended our meal with the profiteroles and they too were divine.
The only drawback was that noise from the bocci lane. There was a party below us and they were having a great time but the noise definitely ended our meal a bit early.
The food was quite good and indicative of classic Tuscan fare. The service, however, was not good. We waited 10 minutes after arriving to meet our server. Appetizers and wine came in a reasonable time, and then there was a 40 min wait for the entrees. Waters were refilled, but we did not hear from our server why there was a delay. The dinner was 2 hours long and we had to take our food in a carry-out bag so that we could make our show. I do not recommend La Scala for an evening out because the slow and unresponsive service made us frustrated.
This was probably one of the best Italian restaurants which I have dined. The food was exceptional, as was the service. I highly recommend the New York strip Al’s way, the grilled Caesar salad, and the shrimp toast. Very nice wine list and truly enjoyed the Chianti.
I always enjoy dining at La Scala! The ambiance is always great, the food is absolutely delicious, and the restaurant allows for intimate conversation amongst partners and friends alike. We recently celebarated a friend’s birthday at the restaurant, with a decent sized group. The staff was very attentive and helpful, meeting the needs of our entire party and leaving everyone with a sense of joy and satisfaction.
