Some of our produce even comes from the Chef's farm, Small Wonder Farm. Gluten Free and Whole Wheat pasta options are available. Entrance looks like an antique shop and the charm extends to the overall experience. Seafood choices were especially inspired and the ingredients were fresh. Ordered shrimp and scallops and was not disappointed. Quality mixed drinks as well. Friendly, knowledgeable server. Would definitely recommend!
Waitress was excellent, so sweet and super knowledgeable. The special was the tuna steak on pasta with citrus butter sauce. It was suppose to have artichoke hearts, cherry tomato and asparagus in it. I did enjoy the tuna steak, it was perfect in temp and pink in the middle. The sauce was maybe titled wrong, it can out with the look of marina. Flavorful yes, but not a citrus butter sauce which pairs so well with fish. My attraction to the special fish was the vegetable combination of the asparagus and the artichoke. I had one small artichoke heart and maybe a total of 2 very thin sticks of asparagus. The sauce and the vegetable blend was not representative of the description and title of the dish.
La Scala is my favorite restaurant in town. Although a little pricey, it is well worth it. I had a friend visiting from out of town and it never disappoints. We had the Chef's specials and they were simply wonderful! The scallops and shrimp were perfectly cooked and my friend enjoyed her perch as well. We had to take home half of our meal for the next night. It was just as good then. I cannot recommend it more.
Disappointing food once again. Salads were good but entrees were disappointing. Gnocchi bolognese tasted fine but not like a bolognese -- also had very little meat and one of the main components was the plate covered in melted cheese. The Indiana risotto was not good. A large amount of very fennel-spiced sausage with a rice pilaf -- not at all a creamy risotto -- rice, vegetables, and a predominance of sausage.
Wine list was limited and uninspired.
This was the first time my wife and I ate at La Scala. We had been told it was the best Italian restaurant in the area. So, we were expecting it to be really good. We were disappointed. The food was OK. The wait staff was fine. The outside seating area is nice. But, the interior is dated and has a musty smell.
Great food, great service... wish the ambiance was better; lighting is also not great. The space seems to have great potential for ambiance, but needs help! Will keep going back because the food is amazing and I love that most ingredients are locally sourced. One of my family's favorites!
Stopped at this great restaurant on the way to Louisville, KY. We were pleasantly surprised! I had the gluten free pasta with stuffed chicken it was absolutely delicious!! The restaurant itself needs some updating and nicer ambiance but the out side terrace where we sat was really charming!
The service was stellar: he was patient, thoughtful, friendly, and funny. Everything was served at a good pace. They have some decent vegetarian options and are also willing to modify dishes where they can. The main course was fine but to my palette not exciting; the flavors were just OK. I had the penne al forno, and something in the sauce was off for me. I've had their marinara before and liked it but it seemed lacking this time. I do find the homemade balsamic salad dressing very good and the salad was fresh. I would recommend La Scala because I like to support locally-owned restaurants but I would also tell people I find it good but not great. I will add I've eaten at a number of Italian restaurants in places like Chicago, New York, San Francisco, so my standards are pretty high.
The salads were wonderful--lettuce was really fresh(perhaps from their garden) and nice size. Dressing was good. One person had ravioli primavera--sauce was too much--the ravioli was swimming. The asparagus was under cooked. The ravioli could have had more spinach. The chicken parm was ok. The other dish was a mixture of meat and seafood on risotto and that was ok as well. Good bread and basil oil.
We were visiting, looking for a good Italian restaurant and found a gem. The food (locally sourced) was fresh and delicious. We enjoyed the outdoor seating, wine choices, and plentiful delicious entree options. My husband and I thought about sharing an entree but couldn't decide on just one and decided to choose our own. Best option! I highly recommend the Cajun pasta but would have been happy with my husband's choice of ravioli florentine. If we're ever back in the area we'll definitely go back!
We came at 5:30. Great time to be seated immediately. Server very nice and helpful, especially because my husband has special dietary needs. Gluten free pasta very good but veggies were under cooked. Also, he requested no garlic but there was some in dish. Server verified she told kitchen NOT to add garlic. She did a very good job! My food was delicious. The sauce on the raviloi was yummy, but I'd say over the top in amount. about half would be perfect. The salad bowl was a little small. Dessert tiramisu was fantastic!
Terrible. I had high hopes due to some good reviews. This was the worst meal of my life. Very disappointed. The pasta was over cooked and there was a total of 4 shrimp on my plate. The ice tea was so dark and cloudy I was afraid to drink it. The so called steak medallions were like leather and not medallions at all. More like cube steak.
