La Scala - Beverly Hills
What Insiders Are Saying
La Scala is red sauce Italian in Beverly Hills - but you're really here for the chopped salad.
They had no record of my open table reservation and didn't bother to add my name after I showed them my confirmation. After 20 minutes of waiting, I had to go up to them and ask what's going on and they had no recollection of who I was. I had to show my reservation again and insist that they add my name to their list. They made me wait 35 minutes while they sat all other guests before me. Didn't bother to apologize or say they were sorry for their mistake. Terrible experience with their maitre d's.
Amazing food !
We enjoyed our dinner. We were able to be seated in a "quiet area" which we appreciated.
For some reason the restaurant cancelled my reservation with no explanation. Then they sat five people in a very small table that all the drinks and plates barely fit. Very disappointed. Use to be one of our favorite restaurants. Not anymore
I always love this Beverly Hills staple! The chopped salad is the best in town. The marinara sauce and chicken meatballs are like no other!
We had a terrible waiter. I’ve come before and had great service.
Our entrees came out before our appetizers & we had to flag down our waiter to get drinks. When we asked about desert, he acted like it was a major imposition.
It's hard to believe that after 60 years of being in business this restaurant can maintain great food and service. We had a lovely evening at La Scala!
Been a favorite for years, since I was a kid. Never disappoints. Incredible food, atmosphere, experience.
I have been in the food industry for most of my life and rarely have I come across a more arrogant and mean spirited restaurant chain. What was a minor problem was elevated to a category 5 Hurricane by a wait staff that was trained in the dark ages of customer service, not to mention a restaurant policy that puts no emphasis on making things right with the clientele. I don't want to share the minutia of my small story because the facts of my consternation this evening were so insignificant that I am shocked I have to write this at all. Suffice to say that a small $9 dessert was too much for this establishment to correct without treating my wife and I like we in a prison cafeteria and dared to ask for another serving. Lots of great places to eat in Beverly Hills, I don't have to come back. Dine at your own risk.
I had a great experience, the staff was great, accomodating and knowledgeable. Food was wonderful.Only downside was a patron that kept on staring throughout my entire meal and her partner cursing at the staff.
You can't beat the original Leon chopped salad. Before 6 PM, you can park for free in the underground parking lot across the street. I always ask for the french bread to be warmed in the oven which makes it even better. I also have them add lots of fresh-ground parmesan cheese on top, which they happily accommodate. It is good to make a reservation, but not essential.
The house took care of us the minute we walked in the door. parking was tight so we parked in a new parking garage across the street. The food was very good we enjoyed our dinner. I ordered Bolognese and my husband ordered pasta. Both were delicious.
The food is dependably delicious. I had Chicken with artichokes and ...don't quite remeber the details but it was really excellent and the sauce was fantastic.
We went for an early pre theater dinner. It was busy enough at 5:30 not to feel alone, and still pre crowd- quiet and peaceful. Their food is always good.
Pasta bolognese was ok. Portion was adequate. Roast chicken was overcooked and heavily seasoned.
The food was good and the bartender awesome. But the waiter and the matradee were so rude. I asked to check my suitcase since I just got in from the airport and the attitude I got was insane. The matradee basically told me to go somewhere else. And the waiter was short and rude and just yuck. Would not go back. Food was not good enough for the staff to have that bad of an attitude
An old favorite
We wanted to try La Scala after touring the Jean Leon vineyards in Spain. The food was absolutely amazing - the best lasagna I've ever had in my life. The service was good; they seemed to have some challenges with adequate wait staff Saturday evening. We were disappointed that they didn't serve Jean Leon wines - that would have been perfect. Definitely will return for the delicious food and the great memories.
This place is terrible! We saw a reality show where one of the patrons dined at La Scala, thus we decided given the restaurant's history, we should give it a try. Big mistake! Too crowded, drinks were TERRIBLE, service was worse. They looked as if they were short-handed as our waiter was no where to be seen most of the night. We ordered our own drinks from the bar (which were deplorable) for a restaurant on Canon Dr. in Beverly Hills - they need to hire a quality mixologist! The salads were as unappetizing and unoriginal as it gets, but the entree pastas were good. Never again.
I had soup and a large chopped salad. My dinner companions had a Caesar salad and crab cakes and shrimp scamp with vegetables. The weakest link was the Caesar salad and crab cakes. They were OK. The crab cakes are not the lump crab meat cakes and seemed over done. The shrimp scampi were wonderful and perfectly cooked. The vegetables included a medley of vegetables and a side of pureed cauliflower. They were delicious. My chopped salad was so good. It's one of my favorite meals. It's so simple but it's just perfect. I've been going to La Scala for over twenty years and it always feels like home to me.
All was good except the host was a little rude and geared more towards men. He excused me when wanted to tell him that we made a reservation and are here. And then he only talked to my husband and offered him a free drink. I felt very disappointed and disrespected. For such a high end restaurant this first impression made me look at every flaw. On the other hand the waitress was extremely attentive and nice. The food was very good.
Terrible everything. Found saran wrap in my wife's salad and they didn't want to take anything off the bill. I had to call the manager over twice. Also they didn't know how to make spaghetti aglio e olio which is the simplest Italian pasta to make. Very bad food and even worse service. Will never go back and recommend that people looking for a nice Italian meal go to one of the other Italian Restaurants in the area. There are a ton!
The food was delicious. The service was professional and prompt. I liked it so much, that I went again the next day.
Great as always! We try to eat at La Scala about once a month. Make a reservation. It's a very popular place for locals, travelers, & theater-goers.
Delicious food impeccable service.
Maybe the physical space needs an update.
Solid food. Needs better bread
We were at the restaurant for a pre-theater dinner and the place was packed and noisy. Never a good time to go to a restaurant, we know. We found the service friendly, but hurried, given the number of patrons that all arrived at the same time. The food was simple but well-prepared. A bit pricy, but this is an expensive neighborhood.
They do not have their own valet parking, but there is a valet a bit south on Canon, and a public parking garage across the street.
Amazing experience all around. They honored my request for a cozy booth as well. I will definitely be back, as this was my first visit.
It’s a sad day when one of my fav restaurants is sub-par and a disappointment! First I was seated in a booth with the people next to me were having a phone conversation ON SPEAKER! I asked the manager if she could do something and she declined. I then moved to another table. Let me say the support staff who bring bread and water were fantastic and very pleasant! However, our waiter had standoffish attitude with us when we both sent back our drinks vodka soda that tasted funny. We spoke with a manager too and they still declined to replace or let us order something different in its place. He said we will be charged for the 2 drinks ($28). We get this same drink every time so we know what it’s supposed to taste like. The waiter probably figured we would not tip good due to this situation so he did not give good service! Lacked attentiveness and personality! Crab cakes were delicious!
Very good chopped salad and reliable food. Although this time the service was slow. It took twenty minutes to get our drinks delivered.
Still my favorite restaurant in Los Angeles.
Food was nice, but pasta isn’t anything extraordinary. Not bad, but nor great either, just an average Italian cafe. Kinda pricy for what it is.
I was disappointed that we had to wait 45 minutes for a table I made a reservation for on my birthday. No one seemed to care- I at the very least thought we’d get a free round of drinks but nothing.
The meal was delicious! The service was okay. The noise level was somewhat loud.
WE hade the best service. Delicious food
WE WILL DEFENATLY BE BACK
Excellent. Crab cakes were particularly excellent.
Excellent food, service, ambiance. The chopped salad is my favorite, minus the salami, with some additional vegetables. It’s always fresh!
A delicious meal as usual. The chopped salad is a must.
I love La Scala. The shipped salad is one of my favorite meals in LA. But last night’s experience was disappointing, to say the least. Our waiter was either overwhelmed by the sheer number of tables or had never waited tables before or both. It was hard to get his attention. Ordering a glass of wine took nearly ten minutes. I took a sip and it tasted funny to me and I asked if I could swap it out for something else and he said I would have to pay for it. I don’t make it a habit of sending food back so it took a little courage to ask. Never heard that before. Reader, I drank the bad wine..
The bread cake and it was hard.
It took another 29 minutes to get the guys attention to order food. The chopped salad was great as always. But the whole dining experience took forever—and not in a good way.
Maybe it was because I ate at Craig’s the night before, where the staff make you feel like family, that this experience was so weird and jarring. Maybe I just need to order my salad to go:
