La Scala - Beverly Hills
We live right by the restaurant and order from there almost every night for dinner but decided for date night we would go and sit in the restaurant. We got there for our table and the host sat us at this cramp table. We sat down and chose our wine and then 6 or so people walked into the restaurant and host came over to us and actually told us we had to get up and give our table to them and wait for another table to open up!! It was SO embarrassing. We stood at the front of the restaurant waiting for another table to open up and felt like everyone was looking at us. It was awful. The food was great but then they didn’t even try and make the experience better. Once we finally sat down, no one even brought us water for about 20-30 mins after we sat down for the second time. What was supposed to be a special date night was completely ruined and turned into an embarrassment.
Our service was slow, when we spoke to the manager she handled it but never came back to our table to see if all was well. The soup took 25 minutes to arrive. I believe the restaurant has new management, which needs some work.
Food was OK - nothing to write home about, but OK. Their famous chopped salad was very good. Pumpkin Ravioli, good. The Veal Milanese, fair; butterflied on the bone... thin, thin, thin, - much more breading than veal, dry, and tasted like it was cooked, and then fried again to heat up. Swordfish was OK, a little dry as well. The troubling part of the meal was the service. Mind you the tables for 2 are tiny, lined up next to each other. We ordered large chop salad to share, and pumpkin ravioli to share, and made very clear they were to split. Ravioli came out first, strange. Huge plate, and 2 more plates, not enough room on the table. They needed to split in the kitchen. But then the salad comes two bites into the Ravioli (not split - and 3 more plates). I told the server to take back the salad until we were finished. Of course when we finished nobody brought our salad. Took 10 minutes to track down our waiter to get our salad.... And, of course, the entree's come before we finished our salads. I call it a cluster-f+ck! I would have told a manager how badly it all unfolded - but there wasn't a manager to be found anywhere. They were clearly understaffed. We overheard mistakes around us as well. I had been in a long time since I had last been, and it will be a long time before I go back. Very mediocre. Too many great Italian restaurants on the same block - and a ton in Beverly Hills. Shocked it was as crowded considering, must have been tourists.
Had to ask (wave down an attendant every time) for everything; more water, more bread, cheese for my pasta etc. etc.
LOVE the chopped salad. I could live on that alone.. I look forward to my next visit.
I’ve been to this restaurant maybe 50 times over the past few years. My experience the last few times had been really disappointing and this last visit was just plain awful. I don’t know if it is a change in management or just a less customer service oriented staff, but our group was shocked at the lack of service. Our order was incorrect and it took nearly 25 minutes to rectify it, when all it required was a plate of chopped lettuce. Our waiter disappeared and then actively avoided us. When we asked for a ginger ale from another waiter, she passed us into the host who promptly said “I’ll try” then returned to the front of the room without attempting to help us with the drink order.
First time dinning experience, wasn't a fan of the bread or the appetizer and the alcohol was overpriced for cheap wine, however probably the best steak I have ever had and for only $40 …… pleasant surprise.
Thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Special treat was chatting with Bobby about NYC.
Veal limone was outstanding. And the chopped salad excellent as always.
The bread was worse than grocery store bread. And the two tops are showed so close together it’s ridiculous. This place is all about turnover and money!
First of all they didn’t record yo open table that we were there. When I called them to point this out as Open Table suggested I do, they said this was between me and Open Table.
I hope they are not trying to cheat you out of your commission.
THE ISSUE AT THE RESTAURANT WAS THAT I ORDERED SOUP THAT WAS SO SALTY THAT I ASKED FOR A DIFFERENT SOUP AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD DO THAT BUT I HAD TO PAY FOR THE BAD SOUP ALSO. TJE MANAGER VERIFIED THIS POLICY. I DID NOT EAT THE SOUP OR ORDER ANOTHER SOUP BUT HAD TO PAY FOR YHE BAD DOUP ANYWAY.
PLEASE SETTLE WITH THEM.
I DO NOT LIKE BEING ACCUSED OF BEING A NO SHOW.
PLEASE CREDIT MY POINTS AND BE SURE THEY PAY YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.
THEY OBVIOUSLY NEEDED THE $10 for the bad soup more that I did, so they are capable of cheating you as well.
We had reservations for a birthday dinner and requested a booth. The host was not very helpful in fulfilling that request.
Been going here for awhile during my travels to LA. Went last week with my wife and was disappointed. Hopefully it was just an off night. Chopped salad was good. However service was off as was my wife’s dinner. Ordered shrimp scampi over linguini. They brought some shrimp with a side of linguine and marinara. Would have sent back but waiter never came to check on us. We were hungry after getting in from NY. Usually go 4-5 times a year but will try something else next time
It was 32 minutes after we were seated that someone took a drink order. We had to flag them down. It was Saturday night at 8:00. The veal with lemon butter sauce with capers is always delicious. I would recommend to a friend but my friends all eat there anyway.
One of my favorite restaurants.....the chopped salad is the best in the world and their marinara sauce is delicous...
just such a great experience.. food especially their chopped salad is prepared just right and service is excellent
Something has changed and the place isn't what it was. Something is different.
Food was good. Their chop salad was great and they offer a Puttanesca sauce which is really good. Deserts are ordinary.
Twin sister visiting me!!!!!
Food was fantastic. Large portions. Service was another story. Abysmal!
Our service was slow however we enjoyed our meal....when it arrived.
Comida muy buena. Ensalada entera enorme, no hace falta pedir más platos.
El único fallo es que fuimos porque era el restaurante de Jean Leon, y no tienen ningún vino de Jean Leon.
The waiter Jaime M. was bad. Asked him to toss the chopped salad and in a curt response he indicated "we don't do that here"
Ordered appetizers and 20 minutes later he comes back and we ran out. Then ordered a crab cake and he said we ran out. I had to ask him "what do you have that I can order"? At this point, we considered leaving.
Once dinner was served this guy never even asked how we were doing
The waiter can set the tone for the evening and this guy set the tone for a not so nice evening.
Simply fantastic, great food matched by the ambience and the team.
Very pleasant experience, my only complaint was the hostess who sat us. She seemed annoyed about something. Would have been nice if she had a welcoming smile.
Had dinner there which was fine - chopped salad added chicken and the verde lasagna. Started off with melon and prosciutto. Nothing was amazing, melon was under ripened but I have had worse. On the whole it’s extremely average- BUT make sure they check you in - like watch them do it ! They left us as no-show and now I need to go did put a receipt from my CC and waist a bunch of time on this.
Total waste of my time for a very average meal.
The team members at La Scala were fantastic.
Gracious service and comforting food.
The service we received on August 10th was terrible. Everything was slow, from the drink order to the food service, it was ridiculous. There were six of us for a birthday party. Three people ordered the swordfish. After the salad plates were cleared, and we were expecting our dinner to be served, some random waiter (not our waitress), came over and said they were out of swordfish!! I asked for the manager, and was told he was off that night, so there was absolutely no one in charge. Our waitress apologized for the slow service and confessed that she lost our food order ticket! The waitress offered us free dessert to somehow make up for the extremely poor service, big deal. Our dinner came to over $500, and it was a horrible experience! Will not return!
Food and ambiance are good. Service is slow and often inattentive. We’ve had a similar experience on other visits in the recent past.
We heard they were under new management so we decided to return. We had been going there for dinner for many years, but it was run poorly and had nasty management. Anyway, service is slow, food average, but hopefully they will be nicer and we will return.
Overpriced with bad service. I heard good things about this place and found it to be a huge disappointment.
We enjoyed our meal. Yes, we would go there again.
You must try the salad! It's what they're known for!
Love this place. Please don’t ever close!! Been going here for thirty years.
A cozy neighborhood spot for classic Italian food. I loved the old-school, low-key vibe. Food is great, and surprisingly affordable. Staff is friendly and efficient. Definitely worth a visit! (Reservations are helpful.)
As usual, everything was perfect EXCEPT for the earthquake. Are the items on La Scala's walls attached correctly to withstand a major quake?
It was a little bit noisy and dark, but the food and the service were excellent.
It is always a pleasure to come to this restaurant. I was there Tuesday of this week and Friday of this week. When I approached the hostess on Tuesday I felt it was a bit of an attitude. I let it go. When I returned with my family on Friday I know that I was not wrong. The wait staff is great the food was fantastic the major fact they have parking across the street is a big plus.
amazing amazing experience. all thanks to our server Guy. Going back just for Guy. Food and ambiance was great too
