A true neighborhood place with authentic French bistro food. Owner, Alain Laurent, is always on hand to talk food and supervise his wonderful staff. Among my favorites are the pate, broccoli mousse, steak frites, mussels and the warm apple tart. We had a celebrity siting during our last visit.
Lovely romantic little restaurant which keeps old New York alive in the best way. Exceptional service. Wonderful wine selection. A couple of the main dish selections could have been “improved.” Broccoli mousse was excellent. Overall it was an absolutely good experience. Highly recommended.
Owner is wonderful and very present. Food is tremendous; exactly what you’re hoping for when you come to NYC looking for a small romantic French bistro. Hard to beat this place.
Great atmosphere, delicious French food, and lovely service! Can’t wait to come back and bring more friends to this fantastic place. Highly recommended!
Excellent food, cozy and warm environment. And the owner Alain makes you feel like a guest in his home. One of my favorite and go-to restaurants.
Very unimpressed!!! For a restaurant that has been around as many years open, should have been as many years closed. Food was subpar and the service and ambiance was totally lacking. Sorry...no French dining here.
Wonderful! Great table, service, and food. Authentic French experience. Will be back soon.
A very nice French restaurant, amazing food and good selection of wine. The owner was there when we got there and made us feel special and as if we’re in France. Highly recommended, for any special dinner of a date 💫
Alain des Laurent had a special haddock dish on tonight's menu that may be the best fish we have ever had. We can always count on the regular menu for fantastic food, but his specials are simply inspired. Every member of the staff pays attention to their diners, giving exceptional service.
Excellent food and very good and very friendly service. Chocolate mousse was disappointing but everything else was terrific.
We've had the pleasure of eating here a number of times. We have never been disappointed. The food and service have always been excellent. It can be pricey with drinks, however. We go for those special events.
We absolutely loved La Ripaille, don’t know I haven’t been before. The food was delicious and authentically French. The French onion soup was honestly the best I’ve ver had. The fish was cooked perfectly and draped with a delicious sauce. Can’t recommend La Ripaille enough - in my opinion much better than the larger Brasserie style restaurants (Odeon, Balthazar etc).
Nice quiet New Year's Eve dinner. Wine menu could provide more choices but the restaurant is very cozy and romantic. The food is dependably good.
The food and service here are outstanding, the atmosphere is authentic, and the wait staff is first-rate.
The snow this morning gives me the place all by myself for the first half of my meal. Both the soup of the day and omelette were terrific! And the coffee and hospitality! Wonderful place! I will definitely come by more often!
First time there and both the food and the atmosphere were wonderful. Especially loved first course: delicious broccoli mousse
Great food, outstanding service!
Le prix est vraiment surfait
Le serveur était adorable ce qui sauve la note global, sinon passer votre chemin!
La nourriture est bonne mais simple et sans charme ni grand interêt.
The restaurant is quaint but lacks atmosphere. Lots of staff on Christmas Day but service not very good.
Food was good but not good value.
This was our 2nd Christmas Eve dinner at La Ripaille and we love it. It was pretty empty compared to last year, but they said that they were more booked for Christmas Day. It's a very small place but that's what we like. Very romantic with authentic French food and service. We'll be back!
Amazing service! Our waiter made the night extra special. The first course and desserts were great. Unfortunately, the main course wasn’t as great as previous visits.
great cozy lots of ambience great food presided over by the charming owner who also takes your order and makes wonderful suggestions
A true find! Unpretentious setting, ebullient owner eager to chat (if you want, which we did) and an unobtrusive wait-staff. The food was superb, the house wine wonderful. Could NOT be better, and so, of course, we'll be back!!
Service started a little rocky but I think the two servers were actually newer. Who I assume could only be the owner arrived and took over. He was fantastic and energetic and gave great recommendations. The food was excellent and they have a wonderful little wine list. The place is intimate and cozy with dim lighting. And I had casually mentioned my mother birthday and they ended up bringing out dessert and singing. Service, attention and food excellent! I will certainly be back.
Dinner was amazing! Have been here twice now and each time everything has been perfect! Food is absolutely delicious and the staff is great! Couldn't ask for anything more
Great French food. We particularly liked the salads, duck and desserts. Very friendly and attentive services also!
E$xcellentfood and great taste and value
charming ambiance and amusant owner combine for a great experience
Friendly, charming & classic french restaurant. Great for special occasions, or an intimate evening,
Was excellent in every aspect. W will always go back!
Amazing restaurant! Service+food= excellent , French wine+ music= 10/10❤️❤️❤️ we found our new baby.🍽🍷❤️❤️
Leave your passport home and visit this authentic French village gem. The owner Alain welcomes each guest as if they were visiting him at home. We travel from Westchester to experience the ambience, decor and fine food. Alain entertains the diners with his humorous presentation of the specials du'jour. The food is presented beautifully, tastes great and I highly recommend the pate as an appetizer but you can't go wrong ordering anything on the menu. Take Alain's suggestions regarding which wine to order; you won't be disappointed. La Ripaille is my favorite restaurant; I'm never disappointed and you won't be either.
Always good! Had the chicken in Dijon mustard sauce and my coworker had halibut. This place is definitely on my “go-to” list when in NYC.
We ate here last night for our one year anniversary dinner. The mussels, steak, and scallops were incredible! The pear tart was okay, nothing too special. This restaurant was great, but my one complaint is the bathroom. When I went in the fan was leaking and it pretty much gave me a shower :(. The staff was apologetic and seemed to get it fixed, but they didn’t go out of their way to ensure I was okay. I was all wet!
Wonderful food. The owner of the restaurant is a character, like the mayor of West Village. Truly an experience.
I've been coming to this unique restaurant for years and it always is a special experience for two reasons: the food and the service. My date and I shared the infamous broccoli mousse and moules poulette (mussels in a white wine and herb sauce with a splash of cream). My cassoulet entree was a traditional and soul satisfying dish that cannot be found anywhere else so far from France itself. We almost fought over the last bite of the lemon tart that was recommended to us at the end of our meal. The attention and care that the chef puts into the plates are on par with the love the owner clearly has for his restaurant and clientele. Will keep coming back for as long as this place exists.
Love to dine at this French bistro. I went to this restaurant twice already in a short period of time. The place is cozy, the food is good and the service is attentive. I highly recommend to order the daily specials he suggest because they are cooked just right, from the starters to main courses to desserts. The owner himself serves the tables and funny, you can't resist his thank you kisses. Every customer is so so welcome from him.
Delicious food! Love the ambiance and how the guests are treated by the owner and personnel. Would strongly recommend it.
Been going to this restaurant for many years. Favorite in NYC. Food is always great, service is outstanding and you’re always greeted warmly. Magnifique!
Overall this is a nice space that evokes a French country feel with it's homey decor. The owner is a very nice guy and makes you feel very welcome in his restaurant. We started with the warmed brie over crouton - very forgettable - and the pate, equally average. My wife enjoyed her main dish (halibut). Steer clear of the sorbet (more like a sno-cone) and my espresso was luke warm.
Meh . . . Our third time dining here but I think we’ll look harder for a new mid-week joint.
