Opened in 1980, La Ripaille is one of the oldest restaurants in West Village. Some of the regulars have been coming for as long as 25 years. We want everyone to feel welcome here, whether it’s the celebrities who frequent, the children for whom we provide games & crayons, or the people who live in the Village.
The owner, Alain Laurent, is integral in the day-to-day processes of La Ripaille. He daily scours the market for the freshest produce, often choosing the day’s specials based on his finds. This keeps the specials seasonal & unique. He decorates the ever changing wine list with the best wines available. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with a terrace for the summer & a fireplace in the back for the winter. The candlelit tables light up French posters and paintings & fresh flowers decorate each table. For a taste of history and delicious French cuisine, visit La Ripaille. We have a seat just for you.

Everything was absolute perfection. The staff is beyond fantastic. They make you feel so welcome which adds to the great atmosphere. The food.... oh man. Every single bite from appetizer to dessert was BEYOND delicious. This was my first time and I already look forward to my next visit! MERCI!
Was a great dinner and experience. Great ambiance and very friendly staff. Food was amazing, the lamb shank was incredibly tender and delicious. We had all the daily specials and are going to head back again this week!
The manager on duty was very delightful. Great host and waitstaff as well. The food was incredible (the lamb is a must!), I loved their playlist too! Great energy all around, would definitely come back.
Cozy, fun, and delicious. We loved our dinner at La Ripaille! The staff were fun and professional and the food was fantastic!
You feel like you are in a little slice of France (I think, never been to France though).
Don’t skip dessert!
Food was great! Staff was amazing! Cant wait to go back!
Went there for the first time last night. Everything was absolutely delicious, fell in love with the filet mignon! Will be back!
Everything was lovely. We did not get our points.
This was a fantastic dining experience. The owner had such hospitality and the food was incredible! So pleased!! Order the espresso martini and the croquettes - you will not regret it! Thank you.
Nice ambience, very nice staff and very authentic french food.
Like taking a short inexpensive trip to Paris. The owner, food and ambience are a delight. Lamb shank, goat cheese salad, mussels and French fries were all delicious and portions v generous
Exquisite as always
Friendly neighbourhood restaurant, family friendly with excellent service. Some interesting twists on classic dishes.
The food was wonderful and the service was both entertaining and generous.
One of Best French food restaurant in NYC. Great service, good menu and nice ambiance
Always a treat to dine here. It has become my fave in the west village and has never disappointed. Owner is a delightful character and adds the air of authenticity to the experience. Food is always delicious and varied.
The host and the decor makes up for the very ordinary “French dishes” that made for an American palette. Very grandly atmosphere but far from a French house experience except the French speaking owner who wants to impress that he is French ! Cute old world surroundings , makes you feel like in left bank Paris but food sorry to tell you not bad if very mediocre “ a la French “
My boyfriend and I made a reservation here for an impromptu date night. We were absolutely blown away, the most delicious wine, the food was amazing, service impeccable and overall, the restaurant has such a homey neighborhood feel. We absolutely loved it and decided we want to come back for our anniversary, can't say enough great things about La Ripaille, we will be back soon!
we were greeted by the owner. He was charming, the food was very nice. Overall a great time and we will go back/
Awesome restaurant for a romantic meal. Love this restaurant!
The food is always delicious. Wonderful wine list. It is cozy, warm, and welcoming. Wonderful service and attention to detail. Grateful to have this gem in my neighborhood. I have never been disappointed. Already looking forward to my next visit to this charming restaurant.
This restaurant was recommended to me and it didn’t disappoint. Small and quaint with fantastic food. The bass was superb. I will be back. Bravo
Alain provided a special farfalle and smoked salmon which we found exquisite.
The other day I had dinner at La Ripaille in the West Village. It's been in New York almost as long as I have. So what kept me?... My loss. It's a delightful place. The food, service and ambiance are divine. I had one of their specials of the day: Cassoulet! It was as tasty a cassoulet as I've ever had. For an appetizer, it was nice to enjoy snails in new way: in a cream sauce of tomato, basil, and garlic. Delightful. Don't wait as long I did to visit. I won't.
A very charming spot with a really nice ambiance. A very engaging staff, we did have to ask for menus and water. Maybe they were just waiting for us to get settled. That aside, the food was quite good, the wine excellent and a place we’ll visit again.
I love everything about this place. Never disappointed on food or drink. Very friendly yet polite service.
Alain is a great host and you will always get delicious food in a cozy place.
The menu prices on Open Table were lower than the actual prices. Open Table should update the prices!
Yes, absolutely. This is a quintessential Village Bistro that's authentically French and wonderfully welcoming. Make it your home away from home. I have for years.
How wonderful to see a classic NYC restaurant that can still delight its customers. A holiday gathering of dear friends was made even more memorable by the charming staff, delicious food and special atmosphere of this warm and welcoming place. Merci beaucoup!
The definition of a classic neighborhood gem. The opposite of a cookie cutter restaurant. It's places like La Ripaille that make New York New York. Unique, full of character, focus on service and of course great food.
I went to La Ripaielle with my parents when they visited for the weekend and we loved it! It was quaint, quiet but lively, and the food was amazing. Highly recommend for a nice dinner with loved ones.
Great customer service! Good food and ambience! Very friendly owner!!
Very comfortable and cozy setting. One of the staff opened the front door for us. Service was pleasant and highly professional, making us feel comfortable and welcome. It was not at all rushed, and we spent over two hours at our table. Though advertised as casual dress, men wore sport jackets and sweaters with woven, collared, shirts; women were all in black outfits of comparable formality. We felt this added to the atmosphere, which was one of mutual respect among staff and diners.
Food was delicious-- classic French, with many specials. My wife had vegetable soup, and I had a mushroom appetizer on the menu. Both were delicious. My duck was fabulous, as was my wife's sea bass. The wines were mostly $50-100, and well-chosen. We loved this restaurant, and I've already recommended it to several friends.
La Ripaille is one of my favorite NYC restaurants. It's charming, quiet (probably because we had an early dinner) and the food is outstanding. The staff is wonderful and really I just can't say enough good things. You have to try the broccoli soufflé.. or dont' go! :)
unassuming on the outside, but a touch of paris on the inside. the welcome mat always seems out; the host is delightful, gets you seated with ease and has a cocktail or glass of wine on the table before your coats are off. the menu is tidy; everything was appealing, not to mention tasty. how could we have missed this place? can't wait to return.
Excellent all around.
This is THE FRENCH place to go to in the West Village. From the greeting at the door, to the service throughout the night, the tableside friendliness and finally the food...it's all perfect. We go here many times as it is a main staple. The escargot is better than the pastry stuff other French restaraunts will serve. The duck is always perfect.
Loved it. La Ripaille is authentically French — you forget that you’re in NYC. The owner/manager is jovial in a theatrical way, very warm and welcoming. The ambiance is lively but the noise level is quiet enough to have a great conversation. And best of all, you don’t feel like you need to rush through your dinner or make room for anyone — your table is your table for as long as you want it. But the biggest reason to come is the food. The prices are very good and reasonable, but the quality and taste is well above average. Easily one of the best escargot dishes I’ve had in a long time.
This is one of my favorites. The atmosphere is lovely, the food is delicious and the service is great. I can’t wait to return.
Food was good, and except for dessert, not great. The fish didn’t taste delicious, but had a very yummy sauce. Friend’s steak frites was just ok. Cheese plate was decent, not fabulous and with no explanation of the types of cheeses. Endive salad had minimal endive. Apple tart was excellent. Waiter was helpful.
