Opened in 1980, La Ripaille is one of the oldest restaurants in West Village. Some of the regulars have been coming for as long as 25 years. We want everyone to feel welcome here, whether it’s the celebrities who frequent, the children for whom we provide games & crayons, or the people who live in the Village.
The owner, Alain Laurent, is integral in the day-to-day processes of La Ripaille. He daily scours the market for the freshest produce, often choosing the day’s specials based on his finds. This keeps the specials seasonal & unique. He decorates the ever changing wine list with the best wines available. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with a terrace for the summer & a fireplace in the back for the winter. The candlelit tables light up French posters and paintings & fresh flowers decorate each table. For a taste of history and delicious French cuisine, visit La Ripaille. We have a seat just for you.

Service was atrocious. If your appetizer comes out 2 minutes after it’s ordered, walk out. I should have done this. I could have microwaved better food. The owners were lovely and I hate leaving a bad review this was highly disappointing.
Love this little gem of a restaurant. I hadn't been here for several decades, and now I wonder why! I returned recently and was thrilled to have rediscovered it. A little taste of France on the Hudson. Food was great. Service was wonderful. Prices not bad for NYC. Intimate setting. Not noisy. Can get reservation without much trouble. How great is that!? These places are disappearing from NYC quickly. Thank goodness this one has survived.
Always enjoy the intimacy of this restaurant. Good food and service.
Fantastic neighborhood spot. Classic French bistro food.
Predinner martini with olives: the worst & tiniest martini I’ve ever had. The olives were old, tasteless, mushy!
Micro portions on everything, from the wine to the entree. Very $$$ considering the portions.
I last ate here maybe 8 yrs ago & before that several times. Was very disappointed!
A perfect place to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
Haven’t eaten there in 35 years. My husband and I were in New York and were excited to enjoy dinner at this restaurant which is still a gem.
A jewel of a restaurant in the West Village. Charming, cozy interior. Delicious French cuisine. And a warm, welcoming host.
This was my second visit here and the food and service did not disappoint. Food was just outstanding. Of special note were the pate appetizer and a lamb shank entree. The wine list is small, but excellent and moderately priced. The service was first rate and the meal service was timed perfectly. One of my favorite NYC restaurants.
The food was amazing, we tried everything! Even when we did not want to try something, the owner sent it out for us to try and it was delicious. The broccoli mousse is lick the plate good. Owner is charming, great service.
Wonderful food and great ambiance and service
Quaint and cozy. Felt like I was in Paris.
Owner is gracious and welcoming! Can’t wait to visit again and again
A fabulous local French Restaurant. The owner oozes hospitality. The food is so delicious, fresh and homemade. A great place to celebrate any occasion. Highly recommend!
Some of the best service in New York! Makes you feel like you’re at home
Restaurant could be on the Rive Gauche and is a lot less costly than a trip to Paris. Great people and great food. A winning combination.
Great atmosphere. Loved the owners!
Perfect meal in a rustic casual atmosphere. The owner is a sweetheart and service personnel are amazing.
Amazing food, friendly staff, cozy atmosphere. One of the best restaurants in New York
Great service, charming and quaint environment, and excellent food! Will definitely be back!
Long time (40 years) local West Village restaurant has survived. Branzino and beef excellent. Nice wine list and good martini. Service friendly, courteous and prompt. Really nice romantic atmosphere. I would go back tonight if I lived a little closer.
A charming old restaurant, with a nice welcome and cozy outdoor space. The good was nothing out of the ordinary, however.
Always amazing. Delicious food, great wine and the most welcoming people - keeps me coming back for more! P.S. have the broccoli mousse ;)
La Ripaille is a Greenwich Village landmark. My family and I have been patrons for many years. The quality of the food and great good humor of service has never waivered. This is true New York at its very best. I unreservedly recommend it. Try the broccoli mousse!
I’ve always loved La Ripaille, but have been unable to go for quite some time due to work out of town (and a pandemic). I was thrilled that everything was fabuleux upon my return. Alain is delightful, as always, and the food was excellent. My only regret is spending too long on cocktails, as there were no more of the special asparagus appetizers left by the time we ordered. Next time!
We had a wonderful time. The owner was awesome. The food was delicious.
Had a great meal with my wife, was able to spend some time chatting with the Owner and his wife. a delightful meal with be going back
Phenomenal restaurant. The food was delicious - creative dishes and all cooked perfectly. I was extremely impressed with their steak. The owners and waiters were cheerful and welcoming. 100/10 experience
I have been a resident of nyc for over 20 years and thanks to open table finally discovered this gem, saw the review and decided to check it out and I can’t say enough how much I’d recommend it, amazing food and even better service and the staff had lovely French accents, it felt like we were back in Paris for a couple of hours
This was during the COVID19 pandemic when traffic was still sparse. There were only a handful of customers, so the service staff was attentive and the noise level was low. The food was classic bistro fare and well done. The sea bass with a Veronique sauce was very good. The lemon tart was smashing. I will go there again.
Over our years together, we have enjoyed many meals and good times at La Ripaille. Alain and his wonderful staff of hosts, waiters and chefs always set the stage for great entertainment, welcome and comfort, and of course, the most delicious food in town. We have never had a bad meal at La Ripaille. The cocktails, the wine and the food have been consistently excellent. We are very grateful that Alain has navigated this memorable restaurant through the COVID crisis without any loss of quality, and we appreciate his commitment to fine dining, character and memories to be made with his customers at La Ripaille. We look forward to many more excellent meals and good times with our friends at our favorite, La Ripaille!
The hosts are the warmest moar lovely people.
The food was absolutely amazing. We had ravioli, the broccoli moouse, and the daily special: the veal with rice. Everything was delicious and well presented, and we even ordered desert! The waiter was charming with a french accent, and we found the outdoor setting to be cute, if not a bit noisy due to arriving buses.
Wonderful food and service. Will return for the chocolate ganache
Delicious food, great ambiance and very hospitable staff.
We love it here. Amazing food
Amazing gem. Was not expecting to find such a wonderful little place. Highly recommend for a local neighborhood feel.
Great food - my wife had the veau blanquette with veal chucks that were tender and juicy and I had the salmon Dijonnaise which was excellent. Great service, too.
The host makes an effort to have the dining experience feel like the old (pre-COVID) days. The food is still well-prepared, even though this is a very long-lived restaurant. The meal itself was great. Social distancing makes service a little awkward. The big suggestion is that the dining room really needs a re-fresh if not a total redesign.
When the owner is your waiter, how can you go wrong
