We were in NYC for a show on Wednesday, 3/4/2020. We picked this restaurant because of the high rating I saw on Opentable and wanted to try latin American food for a change. When we walked in for a 5:15 pm reservation, there was only 1 table of 4 sitting in the entire place. The waiters were very attentive, may be because the place was empty. The menu was very simple. I ordered the shrimp enchiladas and my husband ordered the seafood black-ink pasta which was a special of the day. Both dishes were warm, not hot. In fact the tomato chipotle sauce on my dish was cold but good flavor; the melted cheese on top of the enchiladas already began to harden; the shrimp inside the enchiladas were chopped into less than ½ inch pieces and hardly had any flavor. The black ink pasta of my husband's dish was lukewarm; the clams and squids in my husband's dish were also cold; the sauce was favorable; the piece of toasted bread was cold and hard. By the time we checked out, which was around 6:00pm, no new customers came in for dinner except for the bar that was full.
Fun and engaging drag brunch experience. Quick to replenish cocktails if doing the bottomless portion of the brunch.
The majority of the brunch menu consisted of regular brunch items with a latin flair. However, the flavor of the food was lacking. Portion sizes were decent. Special requests for food were not effectively translated to kitchen staff. Overall, food was okay but not a culinary experience.
Some of the cocktails are premade, which is to be expected with a bottomless cocktail brunch. However, one of the cocktails (La Loca) was very syrupy and needed to be diluted with water.
The drag show itself was upbeat and the drag queens talented. I do believe as it was the second show of the day they may have been a bit tired though. The competition portion of the show was very lively as guests were invited to partake in the show.
Unfortunately seating arrangements are not the best for all as it is a small restaurant. The restaurant is essentially made into a long corridor but the queens spend most of their time deep in the restaurant so those seated near the entrance do not get the best experience.
Be aware that booking this brunch comes with a $10 reservation fee that you do not get back on your food and drinks.
Overall, a fun experience, however, I cannot say I would book it again.
Great spot for a pre show dinner! Food was excellent!
We went to the drag brunch show to celebrate a friend’s engagement and we had an amazing time - the food was delicious, our mimosas were never empty, and it was a really fun show. We are going to go back for dinner - highly recommend!
From the flaky empanadas to the warm lentil salad to the smoky cocktail, everything was top notch. We could even hear our own table conversation!
Great restaurant, food excellent and really good value! Loved it
Wonderful dining experience. Highly recommend for pre-theater, or post.
Drag brunch on Sunday was AMAZING! The two queens who hosted were amazing, the wait staff was fast, efficient and great. Food was good, and everything came out really fast and hot. Will be coming back for more entertaining drag brunch and delish food!
Our reservations were for 6p. We were offered 2 seats at the Bar after waiting 15 minutes. The Hostess greeted us with champagne while we waited, to our happy surprise. We took the seats at the Bar and remarked after we left and truly believe they were the best seats in the whole place. Daniel, the Bartender was attentive to our food and beverage needs. If we didn’t have Theatre tickets we clearly would have stayed longer. The food was quality with proper portions. The mojito’s were excellent. We’ll be back!
Went here for Valentines day. Service was great, food was delicious, and noise level was great and could have a conversation. We will return again when we have tickets to a show. Great location for Broadway-5-10 minute walk to theaters.
Small restaurant which normally doesn’t bother me however, despite having a few waiters the service was horrible. Once we finally had a waiter take our order we put everything in because we had a show at 8. I had a difficult time choosing from 1 of the 3 or 4 wines they offer by glass (they all got horrible reviews on my wine app) went with the most expensive and it was just “okay”. Ordered guacamole with no cheese as an appetizer and I noted that was because I have a dairy allergy. The guac came with cheese. Though, They fixed it no problem. For dinner I ordered the squid ink pasta, one of my favorite things to order out. It was just “okay”. Honestly, it was a bit bland, certainly not the best I’ve ever had. Overall, I was shocked at the amazing reviews this place gets. I just didn’t have that experience at all. There are certainly much better restaurants in the theater district. Will not return.
Perfect location for your pre-show meal and a great restaurant for any other occasion. Seasonal menu and amazing cocktails. The staff is very friendly and accommodating and the owner is often mingling and welcoming guests. I highly recommend this and their Upper East Side location!
I went for drag brunch, and it was AMAZING! Such great energy and the food was very tasty!
Our service was slow. We were going to theatre and our server was told this. He kept saying it was coming. People who came in after us were served before. The food, when it finally came out, came out one at a time, each dish clearly being finished in the kitchen! The steaks were mediocre as was another dish. I was extremely disappointed as Pulperia was my recommendation. I had eaten there two times before and had enjoyed the food and service! I doubt if my companions will want to return.
Really delicious. Had the salmon. Also shared a salad and empanadas. My husband and risotto. Everything great plus great service.
Went here for a birthday with a group of 9 around 10 for dinner and it was a beautiful little spot (almost missed it) but very cute and cozy. The service was really good and the food was delicious. The drinks were really good and strong. There was a dj after dinner but I think it was a special occasion so not sure if they usually have a dj there
Service was fantastic. Food tasted very good. However, the minuscule portions did not justify the cost. Four mini tacos for $22 outrageous, even for New York.
They really need to get their act together. Multiple parties had issues with their reservations at the same time. Maybe they have difficulty with the pre-theater crowd but based on where they are, they should expect it. They had to ask people to leave early and move around. We were seated 20 minutes after our reservation at a table they had to bring out from the back that was in a pretty bad location by the bar and seemed to forget about serving us half the time. In the end, we got our food in time to see our show but it was close. The server kept bringing the wrong food to different tables and we got the incorrect check at the end. It was nice that they gave us a free Guacamole but I cannot recommend it based on our experience. Too many other options in Manhattan.
Excellent tuna ceviche and salmon! Fun dinner!
Food was good but one waiter for the one place? No thank you.
I took my mom to La Pulperia, and Sammy made her feel so comfortable. He was personable and kind and helped us make good choices from the menu. We both had a lovely experience. Thanks again for a great meal.
It was my first time there, the food, drinks were great and the show was a great experience. I went with two close friends of mine. At the end when we were getting to leave I went to the bathroom, my friends were paying the tab and when I came back out, I was informed how the waiter stated they work for their tips and that one person was missing on tipping him. I paid cash, he was talking about me. I did not like the fact that he did such comment, I was in the bathroom and he couldn’t waited patiently for me to come back to leave my tip. A waiter should not approach anyone that way.
Cute spot though a bit tired. Limited but tasty menu.
Service was great. Food was awesome. Steak was cooked to perfection. The side potatoes and lettuce were a great combination and not too filling. Left plenty of room for the delectable dessert. By far the best flan I've ever had. The ambiance was great too. Will def return.
Great buzz in the restaurant, but still able to chat with friends. Great cocktails and some unusual dishes, but all extremely tasty.
A cool little place in the theater district that serves up interesting and tasty food. Guests are well taken care of by a friendly, attentive staff. Go before or after a show!
Well seasoned and prepared food. A touch noisy and tables somewhat close together, but a theater are find nonetheless.
Great food and service. Loved the fish ribs, guacamole, and lobster tostadas. Started off very quiet then noise went to moderate.
Fun little place with great food to have with friends.
Food was fabulous!!! A bit costly for the portions but high quality and extremely tasty. Want to go back already.
Drag brunch at La Pulperia is a well-oiled machine. The performers and staff are excellent and efficient. Such a fun experience.
Pre-theater dinner for 2 with 1 drink each was $120 including tax and tip. Both meals were served on wooden planks instead of a plate, both were tasty, fish ribs were fun. A small restaurant, all tables were full, just enough room for the waiters to get by but room wasn't too noisy. Staff were professional and responsive.
Love this little hidden gem in the mist of the restaurant filled Restaurant Row! Great happy hour until 9, amazing manager, bartenders and servers! The food was flavorful and filling! My new local spot by work.
Great food. Excellent service. Good location. Highly recommend this place.
Food is excellent. Consistent and tasty. Signature drink. The smokey room is divine. Will continue to go the
We went to a pretheater brunch. The food was great. The service was friendly and we had an amazing experience.
A qualified yes on recommendation to a friend. The service was inattentive and slow. The menu choices were less than listed on OpenTable’s menu and also about 10% higher. OpenTable and the restaurant need to update that.
My husband, my son and I came to this restaurant and we were so impressed. This restaurant is amazing. The flavors that the chef put together was simply delicious!!!
It is a very cozy place. The food was excellent and the service was great . Definitely will be back .
