La Pulperia was a great option for us before the theater, but seems like a nice option for any time. It feels like a cozy, fun neighborhood hang out somewhere in Latin America. It feels funny when you walk out into Times Square! Although it was crowded and most diners were in a rush to get to a show, the service was attentive. Our water glasses were always full, dirty plates taken away, second drinks were offered. Things moved quickly but we didn’t feel rushed. The ceviche was delicious, the fis ribs unique and the ravioli stuffed with crab. The lucuma ice cream was unusual and delicious!
La Pulperia was absolutely delicious and the restaurant itself was adorable! We came here before seeing a show and it was perfect - they asked to make sure they got us fed & out the door in more than enough time to make it to our show. It was easy to make a reservation online and they called to confirm the day before. We were all pretty adventurous and took recommendations from the waiter - the octopus and the BBQ fish ribs were quite delicious!!! I would highly recommend both options. The lobster tostados to start were also very very good!
Drinks were very good, two appetizers very good, meals were fair
Went on a first date, we had a great time
We loved our meal at La Pulperia. The food was imaginative and wonderfully prepared. The staff was so great as we celebrated my friend's milestone birthday. They brought out an enormous novelty wineglass with sparkling wine. Great fun, great meal, great evening.
Happy hour was great. You cannot beat $1 oysters and a $6 Malbec was impressive. Dinner however was lackluster. We ordered the Salmon which @ $29 is way overpriced. It was grilled and well prepared. It came with broccoli, a potato mixture and another cheese baked vegetable that might have been cauliflower. The menu felt limited. All that being said the atmosphere is warm and the service engaged and attentive.
Too often when we come to the theater district for a show, we feel deluged by the big franchise restaurants in Times Square (think Bubba Gump's Shrimp Co) and surrounding overly hip smaller restaurants. Luckily, Yelp led us to the Pulperia, a perfectly charming neighborhood restaurant--upscale but welcoming. We came for an early dinner before a show. At 5pm on a Thursday, the place was quiet and cozy and we had no trouble with seating. We took advantage of the happy hour menu and tried the oysters, salmon tacquitos, ceviche, empanadas, and truffle fries. All delicious. My partner doesn't even like ceviche because the citrus is typically too piquant, but this Peruvian version was perfect. Hector, the manager, was warm and gracious and took the time to explain the preparation of the dishes. The full menu is available at the bar, so we ordered the short rib with polenta. Every bite melted in our mouths and was both comforting and novel with a Latin twist on the polenta. For dessert, we had two ice creams: dulce de leche and soursop (I know, what is soursop, right?). Don't ask questions, just get it! It's light, fruity, not too sweet, and a perfect ending to a perfect meal. Also, don't miss the Sangria! We will definitely be back.
This place is a gem. The drag show was fantastic and the food was delicious. I will be back!
After looking at a handful of reviews for restaurants close to the Theater District, I landed on this place and I'm 100% happy with my decision. It's a tight little spot and therefore if you want a quiet night out this isn't the best place to be as your neighbors are within a foot of you, however the food here was amazing! The waitress helped to recommend the Las Tablas option of salmon and we picked the Moqueca Mixto option to make sure we got a range of seafood in and the flavors were out of this world.
Also upon getting our check, they gave us some of their dulce de leche ice cream and oh my god it was heaven.
Good Nuevo Latino choice for Theater District, large portions, service very good for pre-theater, highlight was the Pulpo entree(you could almost share this).
The food and atmosphere were both great. Portions can be on th small side for some people, but are actually properly portioned. The bar drinks were perfectly mixed, food was perfect. Small neighborhood atmosphere that feels both cozy and contemporary. The only two demerits were (during this experience) that the music is a bit too pour to have a conversation without having to really raise your voice and the service tended to be on the slow side. Staff were all friendly.
Everything was great. Tried unique dishes like salmon brûlée lobster taquitos
Great pre-theater dinner. Excellent roux for the seafood stew. Pulpo was very well done. We would definitely return.
I came for the Sunday drag brunch and had the time of my life. I looked at a lot of menus for drag brunches in the city and this one seemed to be the best mix of good food and fun. I was right, I had the steak and eggs, which were delicious, and I thoroughly enjoyed the show. I'm sure I'll be back soon!
Great food, especially the Fish Ribs, which are from a really big fish so quite like pork ribs in size and sauce, but with a fish texture. It's a very loud place though, so good food a bit noisy.
La Pulperia never disappoints. Seafood is particularly good.
Delightful casual restaurant. Original delicious cuisine. Warm and fun atmosphere. Staff very friendly and helpful. We were with out of town guests for pre theater dinner. They want to come back just for this restaurant. Terrific find.
We did the happy hour, it was great
Muy rico y muy recomendable todo excelente atención en la cena de año nuevo
