La Pulperia 46th Street Ratings and Reviews
This was a wonderful find during a business trip. Some of my colleagues were skeptical at first because it’s not a high-profile steakhouse, but they were sold once the seafood tower came out. Also make sure to try the octopus. It was the best I’ve ever had.
Really loved the food and hospitality. We had very nice, friendly wait staff and bartender, made us first-timers feel very comfortable. Diverse menu of out of the ordinary Latin America dishes - all looked very good. Salmon dinner we ordered had beautiful, unique presentation and was very tasty.
We were greeted and seated quickly by a pleasant hostess. The seating/table space is tight for the average American adult. The food was excellent. We started with the guacamole which was fresh and creamy. I had the Spaghetti Bolognese - great depth of flavor, healthy portion. The service was quick and attentive. The guest at the neighboring table were unfortunately quite loud, and particularly obnoxious.
Great food, great staff, great show. Who could ask for more?
Been here twice for the Sunday "Drag Brunch." What an amazing way to spend two hours. The staff is helpful, courteous, and keeps the free drink refills coming. The food was amazing, which was surprising since the place was packed and the entire restaurant had to be turned in under 2 hours. I had the tostados, really great flavor. Bloody Mary's were spicy, but not too spicy, and had very good flavors.
The show was great. Three drag queens interacted with us in between songs/routines. Their dancing was phenomenal. It is truly a great show. Be sure to bring small bills to tip them throughout the event. We did because they deserved it. Definitely will be back again.
We just love the food-- excellent and interesting flavors! Our waitress was so lovely but she had to apologize several times for how slow our entrees came out of the kitchen pre-theater which put a little damper on the meal. The restaurant had a very small/tight seating plan but they are good about taking coats:bags to help. The food will have me coming back for sure!
This is the third time I've been here. The food is amazing as are the drinks. One thing that needs to be addressed is the warmth in the restaurant. The last time I went there was an issue with the AC, and I'm not sure if the same was still an issue. Regardless, the food and drinks are fantastic, as is the ambience. Highly recommended!!!
Went for dinner before a show. The cocktails and fresh sangria were amazing. The service was very fast and we were amazed how quickly our food arrived. The menu had some unique offerings and the food was amazing. The only complaint we had was that it was an unseasonably warm day when we visited, and the restaurant was very, very hot. Other than that the experience was amazing and we will definitely return next time we are in the city!
We went for a pre-theater dinner which was also two birthdays for the Group of Seven. Service was very good but not outstanding. Food had a very wide choice of options and could accommodate vegetarians, Pesca Terrian's and carnivores equally well. Every body really enjoyed what they ordered.
Two of us went back the next day for happy hour of craft cocktails in the oysters.
All in all we were very satisfied and will be back again.
My husband and I absolutely LOVED this quaint restaurant and noticed that everyone in there was also enjoying it just as much! We were greeted by the GM who apologized for our table not being ready, even though we were 20 minutes early. We were seated even before we ordered a drink at the bar. All staff members seemed to work together and wanted each customer to have a great dining experience. The menu was wonderful - my husband ordered the pulpo and loved it. The presentation was also wonderful. I ordered the black spaghetti and I'm still dreaming about it. I cannot wait for our next visit. We went to many more notable and more famous restaurants and establishments but none compared to this! Thank you to the GM and all staff!!! I will recommend to everyone I know who visits NYC!
Pulperia is a cute place in a good location if you are going to the theater. The waitress and other servers were gracious. They adjusted the air conditioner when it seemed a bit to cold. I appreciate that.
The food is a bit under seasoned for my taste and we felt that the portion size was very small. There are limited desserts. Overall our opinion is it is a nice place but not necessarily a repeat. Not outstanding.
The drinks were outstanding, but the food didn't impress us all that much. The ceviche seemed to have a thick "dressing" instead of lime juice. The octopus was slightly overcooked but still edible (for me- not my friends). The papardelle was good, as well as the seafood dish over rice, but neither wow'd anyone. I'd give this place another chance but we'd probably order different food. I'd definitely go back for the drinks though. Service was great, however. All three of us previously worked in the restaurant industry so we'd NEVER send food back, nor would we complain.
First visit. Our server was attentive and gave good suggestions for cocktails and dinner. We had the signature octopus plate and King Crab Legs. Both excellent. The physical space is small, with brick walls that will make if noisy when full. When we were there it was lively, though not full. Will go back
We had a lovely pre-theatre dinner for two on a Saturday night. Arrived at 6:00 with a reservation. Very relaxing atmosphere and calm service. We had the guacamole, then shared the seafood/black ink pasta dish and the salmon. Everything was perfectly executed and deeply flavorful. Definitely recommend. Great value. An escape from the tourist traps all around there.
I would not go back to this restaurant. My entire party and I were disappointed with the food. Nothing stood out flavor wise. Everything lacked seasoning. The empanadas were very greasy with very little filling. The sides that came with the grilled meats and seafood did not taste fresh. Furthermore the air conditioning was not functioning properly so it was very uncomfortable. I would recommend going to Pio Pio if your looking for flavorful and fresh Latin cuisine at a cheaper price.
The entrance into the restaurant is deceiving. We just missed the Sunday brunch 12-4p which had a show. We went there before a 7pm Broadway show so it was a late lunch early dinner which was nice because it wasn't crowded. Good is excellent. I ordered the Brazilian stew which was DELICIOUS! For dessert I had the flan which was also DELICIOUS. Will definitely return for the Sunday brunch and the show.
Restaurant should offer a disclaimer on the vulgar entertainment at brunch! Love a good drag queen show, but the vulgar and foul language at such a high volume level ruined our brunch experience. The entertainers were obnoxious and would not allow us to enjoy our brunch. When we left early, they harassed us and flipped us off! Paid premium brunch amounts, nothing discounted. Such a horrible experience with great food. Never interested in going back. Beware!
