La Provence Ratings and Reviews
Very enjoyable, very nice place. The food was good. The Beef Wellington although cooked perfectly was a little plain, under seasoned or no seasoning at all, kind boring. Same with the mashed potatoes and the broccoli was undercooked. The Pork Osso Buco was great and so were the sides. It was noisier than I expected. The service was not bad but not quite to the level I’ve experienced for this type of restaurant. The French Onion soup was probably the best part of the meal.
Leprechauns is a fantastic place for lunch or dinner it has a great wine list the servers are attentive and friendly but what makes La Provence second to none is the food it's superb especially if your hamburger aficionado the hamburger is one of the best in the area
I was disappointed. Ordered a Croque monsieur and was served an okay sandwich which did not look or taste like a croque monsieur. It was ok but not what it was supposed to be. A French restaurant should know how to make this sandwich . Also very noisy music was too loud and then loud talk. Very disappointed
The appetizers were excellent but the prix fixe dinners left a lot to be desired.
The french onion soup was ok, not great.
The chicken and short ribs were both off in texture. I've never paid so much for a short rib that I had to saw through with my knife and chew thoroughly, and it was still fatty too. The chicken was dry and stringy.
The profiteroles were not light and airy like they should be. They were super dense, like a hard biscuit. It took effort to saw through them with my knife. Ridiculous.
But by all means, go for wine and appetizers.
I took into consideration this meal was Thamksgiving Day dinner, and it was very busy at our 5:00 reservation time, but all at our table were frustrated soup and salad took so long to serve, then our main course came out within minutes (4-5 at the most), so all three with soup ended up pushing aside but never came back to it. I was tempted to send our main courses back, but decided that would just make matters worse.
We had a beautiful dining experience early evening on Thanksgiving and were so pleased they accommodated our request for seating in an area we wanted. Since there were just two of us, we wanted it to be romantic. The food was delicious, our cocktails were handcrafted and the service was great. My only regret is the Thanksgiving menu did not have any traditional French cuisine, like escargot and beef bourguignon, however the four main courses offered a varied selection. I had the turkey with sage stuffing and it was wonderful. My husband had the prime rib. We visit La Provence whenever we are in the Roseville area to see family and have now shared our experience with other family members who live in the area. We highly recommend it!
We had friends in from out of town, and we all really enjoyed our dinner at La Provence. The food and service was excellent! Our only minor compliant was the bar area was pretty loud but since we are entering the holiday season, I think it might have been a corporate event or something like that. I would recommend the Short Ribs. Melt in your mouth!!!
Food and service was GREAT! They often have specials which usually rock! I highly recommend this place for a nice evening out with fiends, family, or a date/wife/spouse! The staff truly care about the dining experience of their customers. Thank you!
This may be the prettiest room in the Sacramento dining scene. It looks out over a green-belt area, it has large windows, a lovely patio area, and a see-through fireplace in the middle of the room. The food is always a treat, the service, especially last Friday, is always good.
We frequent this establishment, and it is always awesome! the menu changes enough hat you continue to get new options and the regularly adjusted diner specials rock! The service is second to none! Thank you for an awesome dinning experience.
Our favorite neighborhood restaurant serves brunch, lunch, dinner and special events. We have tried the beef, chicken, pork, fish entrees as well as the super hamburger. Without exception, all dishes have delighted and amazed us. The wait staff is professional, polite and experienced. A shout out to our favorite waiter David. For dessert, our favorites are the creme brulee and flourless chocolate cake. Be sure to stop by and take home a delicious snack at the bakery counter.
We were at La Provence for a four course, plus dessert, food and beer tasting (Goat House Brewing). The beers were good and matched well with the food. All of the dishes were creative and enjoyed. The group dinner was for about 25 people. Both the wild boar baby back ribs and the pub wellington were over cooked. I suspect this was due to having to make these meals for so many people.
My wife and I were celebrating our 11th wedding anniversary. I tried my first beef Wellington and it was spectacular. The crust was flaky and perfect, and the meat was tender and cooked spot on. Vegetables, appetizers and service were great. I’ve lived in Roseville since 1975, and really don’t know why it took me so long to dine at this wonderful restaurant. Highly recommended.
My husband and I took his parents to La Provence for dinner to celebrate a birthday. In advance I'd purchased La Provence gift cards from our local Costco which cost $79.99 for two $50 gift cards. At the end of dinner my husband placed the two $50 gift cards and his credit card (to cover the remaining balance and tip) in the bill holder for the waiter. Another gentleman returned with our bill and announced to our table, "After applying the two $50 gift cards, the remainder is charged on your credit card". I don't know who he was nor why he felt it was necessary to loudly proclaim to our entire table the fact that two $50 gift cards were used towards our meal???!!! It was unprofessional, unnecessary, embarrassing and an awkward end to our celebration dinner. I don't know who the gentleman was as he didn't introduce himself.
A perfect Evening. Everything was beautiful. from the food presentation and execution. everything was excellent. service was on point. wine selections were superb. The beef Wellington was to die for. my wife could not be happier with her scallops. the fireplace made everything so romantic.Thank you La Provence for another perfect evening!!!!!
Although my overall rating was a 3, normally it would be a 5. I will say that from the point when Ian, the manager, became involved that the problem was ultimately resolved but it took quite a bit of waiting on our part while Ian did his fact finding. I would suggest a much quicker response, should a similar problem occur, in the future. To his credit, Ian asked what he could do, but since this has never happened before when we dined at La Provence, I honestly wasn’t prepared with a response. La Provence is where we regularly take our friends and relatives to for an exceptional dining experience. For example, a month ago I took my daughter and her family to brunch there. The experience was as expected. Fabulous! For review purposes, here’s where the service when south on our most recent visit. Following our order, no one checked in with us re: the status of the bread plate or water. Then my salad & broccolini, that was to accompany the kid’s mac’n cheese, came out, but not the Mac ‘n cheese. It was at least 30 min before we began to inquire where the rest of the entrees were and at which point the broccolini was cold and my well-mannered granddaughter began saying she was hungry. (Time was well after 7pm). The server didn’t correctly identify the risotto entrees so they were served to the wrong person, leading to us having to wait to find out why my risotto had no shrimp or lobster. I truly believe this was an unusual occurrence and will give La Provence another chance. Ian absorbed the cost of the meal which was appreciated. In reflection, my suggestion is for La Provence to be mindful when children are part of the dining party and be sure that their meal is available first. Second, any situation/problem must be handled in a quicker manner as making the client wait as time ticks on only adds to the problem, making a bad experience worse. Finally, offer the client a complimentary meal(s) or at least a discount for another day. This could ensure a satisfied client.
We have dined at la Provence many times, and the present chef knows food and respects it. We both were pleased with our choices - rack of lamb and short ribs - as well as the service. The lamb was accompanied by an excellent vegetable purée that made me want more. The mushroom risotto was equally delicious. But the Coquille St. Jacques has always delighted us on previous visits. All in all, a charming restaurant in a lovely setting!
Charming bistro setting. (Ask for fireplace seating) Celebrated our 64th wedding anniversary, there. One of the few "romantic restaurants" we know of, in this area. Our waiter, Ray, was very professional with a great sense of humor and very attentive. Continental menu provides a great selection. The manager, Ian, makes you feel special and welcome. We will return!
