The food and the ambiance were good for Santa Cruz. As many restaurants in California, the waiters were really eager that you to order wine, which I found annoying.

The food was quite tasty, but the service wasn't terrific. The waitstaff was distracted and didn't bring us parts of our meal, and didn't bring wine until we were finished with our entrees. The portions were small.

Great food, great service, quiet table

I’ve been wanting to come here for some time and it certainly didn’t disappoint. My friend and I were impressed with the menu which is modern, fresh and delicious. The waiter couldn’t have been more attentive. We drank the house wine, and it was pretty good. I’ll definitely be back!

Always delicious

Everyone at the table said they thought it was one of the best dinner meals in their life.

It's across town for us, so we don't often go as there are other great choices near us. However, it is the only restaurant that pulls us to the Eastside of Santa Cruz. It'a very nice place with great ambience and stellar food. The pizza I had was just marvelous, but so were all the other dishes. The house wine was good and inexpensive, which made me very happy. I wish all restaurants would have a house wine like this.

Absolutely fabulous as always. The black cod was amazing, with a myriad of subtle flavors, as was the kale and the burrata salad with fresh anchovies. Too full for dessert because, even though I shared with my friend, portions are generous and we were both too full, even though the desserts, too, are exquisite here. Best restaurant in town, without question.

I usually love this restaurant, but this time, though our waiter was an extremely nice guy, he was obviously stretched way too thin. We barely saw him, either at our table or at any of the neighboring tables, who seemed to be sharing our frustration with the service. We were given four pieces of bread for our party of 4 while we waited more than 40 minutes for our entrees. We never received our appetizer and were never offered beverages or checked on to see how we were doing with our meals. We assumed they were short staffed, but no one apologized or explained what was going on, or made any indication that things were abnormal. Our bus boy was excellent though, unobtrusively keeping our water glasses full.

The food was great (as usual), but we'd really wanted the asparagus appetizer to add some vegetables to the meal. We ended up leaving without having dessert because the service was so slow and we didn't want to spend another 40 minutes waiting around. Also, always before, my vegetarian daughter has been able to find good meal choices. It seemed much more limited this time.

We live in South County, so La Posta is a drive. Usually it's more than worth it, but this time, it definitely wasn't. Maybe this was due to the influx of tourists for Spring Break? We'll try again, but with less surety of a great dining experience.

Neighborhood Night continues to be a steal, especially when you can partake of amazing housemade pastas like the agnolotti with pork and the nettle pasta with pork and beef ragu. My mom raved about the Bearss lime sorbetto, while I loved the lemon-gingersnap and mint stracciatella gelati.

Fantastic food and service as always. One of our favorite places for date night and certainly one of the best spots in town.

Told them ahead of time, because they asked, that it was a birthday celebration and they didn't do anything special. No big deal.

We've been to La Posta many times and the food and service are always consistently great. The atmosphere is casual, inviting and conversation-friendly (meaning I don't have to shout at the person across from me). The hardest part is having to choose from so many interesting options. This last visit I especially enjoyed the shaved brussels sprout salad with celery root, almonds, pecorino and lemon. Paired with a glass of wine (another hard choice) and the house-baked walnut bread, it could have easily been my dinner, but I had the Fogline Chicken as well. My husband had the Halibut in agrodolce with dandelion, chickpeas and olive aioli. So good!
Oh, and the house-made gelatos are very good! I would suggest sharing two different flavors, chocolate being one of them.

Always great. So tasty and special. Always look forward to dining here.

Four of us enjoyed a delicious dinner celebrating my wife’s birthday. We have dined at la Posta a number of times and we always enjoy the experience!

Arugula salad was simple and delicious, one of best I’ve ever had. Nice thin crust pizza was delicious. Others had papardelle with meat sauce and although the portion was small for a pasta dish, it also was delish. Service was friendly. Manager was pleasant and paying attention! We would go back.

We live over 30 miles away, but have been coming to La Posta for years. It is consistently a great experience. Superb, creative, authentic Italian fare, and great wines. Wish it was closer to home!

Great, fantastic bread and interesting specials

The brisket ravioli’s were amazing. The dessert crepes tasted fresh with citrus glaze . A nice end to a lovely evening.

I never write negative reviews, usually I just decide never to return to the restaurant. But I think that La Posta wants to be a good restaurant. They certainly have a lot of business but I want then to know why they won't have ours again. It's essentially because the server was inattentive and patronizing.
I took my mother here for a special night out. The service at first was attentive but frustrating: the server kept correcting my pronunciation on the menu items. We were one of the first tables sat but after the restaurant got busy I had to actually physically grab our waiter to get his attention as he sprinted by our table (once to order another glass of wine, once to ask for the dessert menu and yet again to ask for our check.) And, now that I think of it, he was smiling but again patronizing when I asked him to pack up our food to go. "I'll go find the busboy, he is the one to do that."
I never like being patronized, but especially dislike it when I am the patron.
Regarding the food: we ordered the chicken sausage, the chitarra (it was three attempts before I pronounced that correctly enough for the waiter's satisfaction), the chickpeas, the greens and the crespelle (another linguistic landmine.) The sausage was very good but served atop sauerkraut that was stone cold so it leached the warmth from the sausage. The chitarra was good. The greens and the chickpeas were undercooked. And the crespelle was stone cold, nit in a pleasant way.
All in all, the food wasn't good enough to want to again tolerate the aloof treatment of the staff.

The quality and execution of the food was excellent and service was commensurate.

Food is as good as you can get anywhere in Santa Cruz County.

Wedding Anniversary

Having eaten there several times, we were astounded by the uncharacteristic lapse in service and quality. The dinner was unduly delayed without good explanation. My wife loves their thin crust pizza and when hers finally came it was cold. The top was quite warm, but the bottom was cold as ice. I have no idea how that was accomplished, unless it was waiting on an ice cold platter. My pasta was excellent, but my wife had a lousy evening. She lost her appetite, but at least we did not pay for the pizza. I'm sure this is a very unusual occurrence.

A Santa Cruz gem. The pizzas are authentically Italian and every dish is thoughtfully prepared and well executed, even the bread basket. The roasted pork loin I had was succulent with deep flavors and the perfectly braised celery root it came with was an great pairing. It seems they have a standard that the vegetables must be perfect coming into the kitchen before they’re ever considered for your plate. Bravo!

Outstanding as usual

La Posta is one of the best restaurants in the Monterey Bay area and over the hill too! A delight to visit. Aaron, our waiter is always friendly and personable, and he's very attentive. Everyone there is actually. And the food is soo amazing. It's light, delicate flavors, complex, and balanced. I do recommend La Posta to my friends and others all the time.

We had a wonderful Valentines Day dinner at La Posta and they never disappoint! The food was so fresh, extremely creative and the service was on point. I loved every bit of the experience. Always a special place to dine.

The Food presentation and taste was off the Charts.

Great as always! la Posta is a neighborhood restaurant for us so we’re able to enjoy dinners there several times each year. la Posta is consistently very good. From bread (and it’s incredibly good bread— they do their own from long term starter) to dessert, they know how to prepare and serve an excellent meal.

Loved it. Subtle but special. Bread was amazing. Really a lovely surprise!!

This was our second time here and the noise level this time was appalling!! You could hardly hear the musicians in the background. It did improve a bit later in the evening, however. The food, though, was as fantastic as before and we weren’t disappointed!! My partner’s smoked cod appetizer was fabulous and we also recommend the brussel sprout pizza . The pizza may sound weird, but it also has light Italian bacon and onion on it and it is really, really good. And I don’t like brussel sprouts and I’m saying this!!! The waiter hovered over us a little too much, like he was trying too hard, and we basically just told him to go away for awhile. Then everything was just fine. Everything was served in a timely manner, and at the right temperature. Also, on Open Table, we requested a widow seat and this wasn’t honored. I know they were busy, but they made no effort that I could tell to hold a table for us when people that had just gotten there were seated at the window. They did say the musicians would be standing there, but it doesn’t account for the 2 ladies who had obviously just been seated. Maybe that’s their policy. It is a neighborhood style restaurant and quite relaxed about things. But, overall, we had a good time and we recommend this place for loud relaxation!! We’ll undoubtedly be back because things change.

Four local friends: much enjoyed Tues "neighborhood night" with generous portions of well composed salad, interesting pizza (prosciutto!), pasta (porcini!), nice wines by the glass. A real bargain of quality food and attentive service at 18 bucks per person. Live instrumental music, tho the background ambience was on the noisy side. We'll definitely keep returning.
