We live over 30 miles away, but have been coming to La Posta for years. It is consistently a great experience. Superb, creative, authentic Italian fare, and great wines. Wish it was closer to home!
Great, fantastic bread and interesting specials
The brisket ravioli’s were amazing. The dessert crepes tasted fresh with citrus glaze . A nice end to a lovely evening.
It's always an experience to look forward to. And that bread........
I never write negative reviews, usually I just decide never to return to the restaurant. But I think that La Posta wants to be a good restaurant. They certainly have a lot of business but I want then to know why they won't have ours again. It's essentially because the server was inattentive and patronizing.
I took my mother here for a special night out. The service at first was attentive but frustrating: the server kept correcting my pronunciation on the menu items. We were one of the first tables sat but after the restaurant got busy I had to actually physically grab our waiter to get his attention as he sprinted by our table (once to order another glass of wine, once to ask for the dessert menu and yet again to ask for our check.) And, now that I think of it, he was smiling but again patronizing when I asked him to pack up our food to go. "I'll go find the busboy, he is the one to do that."
I never like being patronized, but especially dislike it when I am the patron.
Regarding the food: we ordered the chicken sausage, the chitarra (it was three attempts before I pronounced that correctly enough for the waiter's satisfaction), the chickpeas, the greens and the crespelle (another linguistic landmine.) The sausage was very good but served atop sauerkraut that was stone cold so it leached the warmth from the sausage. The chitarra was good. The greens and the chickpeas were undercooked. And the crespelle was stone cold, nit in a pleasant way.
All in all, the food wasn't good enough to want to again tolerate the aloof treatment of the staff.
The quality and execution of the food was excellent and service was commensurate.
Food is as good as you can get anywhere in Santa Cruz County.
Having eaten there several times, we were astounded by the uncharacteristic lapse in service and quality. The dinner was unduly delayed without good explanation. My wife loves their thin crust pizza and when hers finally came it was cold. The top was quite warm, but the bottom was cold as ice. I have no idea how that was accomplished, unless it was waiting on an ice cold platter. My pasta was excellent, but my wife had a lousy evening. She lost her appetite, but at least we did not pay for the pizza. I'm sure this is a very unusual occurrence.
Really nice place to get dinner. Food and service are good. I like to try out their specials and was never disappointed
A Santa Cruz gem. The pizzas are authentically Italian and every dish is thoughtfully prepared and well executed, even the bread basket. The roasted pork loin I had was succulent with deep flavors and the perfectly braised celery root it came with was an great pairing. It seems they have a standard that the vegetables must be perfect coming into the kitchen before they’re ever considered for your plate. Bravo!
Outstanding as usual
La Posta is one of the best restaurants in the Monterey Bay area and over the hill too! A delight to visit. Aaron, our waiter is always friendly and personable, and he's very attentive. Everyone there is actually. And the food is soo amazing. It's light, delicate flavors, complex, and balanced. I do recommend La Posta to my friends and others all the time.
We had a wonderful Valentines Day dinner at La Posta and they never disappoint! The food was so fresh, extremely creative and the service was on point. I loved every bit of the experience. Always a special place to dine.
The Food presentation and taste was off the Charts.
We will definitely be back.
Valentine's Day pris fixe menu, 3 choices/3 courses. Food well prepared, interesting combinations of several ingredients in each course.
Great as always! la Posta is a neighborhood restaurant for us so we’re able to enjoy dinners there several times each year. la Posta is consistently very good. From bread (and it’s incredibly good bread— they do their own from long term starter) to dessert, they know how to prepare and serve an excellent meal.
Loved it. Subtle but special. Bread was amazing. Really a lovely surprise!!
Ingredients were beautifully sourced- all very fresh and high quality, and everything we had tasted great
This was our second time here and the noise level this time was appalling!! You could hardly hear the musicians in the background. It did improve a bit later in the evening, however. The food, though, was as fantastic as before and we weren’t disappointed!! My partner’s smoked cod appetizer was fabulous and we also recommend the brussel sprout pizza . The pizza may sound weird, but it also has light Italian bacon and onion on it and it is really, really good. And I don’t like brussel sprouts and I’m saying this!!! The waiter hovered over us a little too much, like he was trying too hard, and we basically just told him to go away for awhile. Then everything was just fine. Everything was served in a timely manner, and at the right temperature. Also, on Open Table, we requested a widow seat and this wasn’t honored. I know they were busy, but they made no effort that I could tell to hold a table for us when people that had just gotten there were seated at the window. They did say the musicians would be standing there, but it doesn’t account for the 2 ladies who had obviously just been seated. Maybe that’s their policy. It is a neighborhood style restaurant and quite relaxed about things. But, overall, we had a good time and we recommend this place for loud relaxation!! We’ll undoubtedly be back because things change.
Four local friends: much enjoyed Tues "neighborhood night" with generous portions of well composed salad, interesting pizza (prosciutto!), pasta (porcini!), nice wines by the glass. A real bargain of quality food and attentive service at 18 bucks per person. Live instrumental music, tho the background ambience was on the noisy side. We'll definitely keep returning.
Only two servers for entire restaurant creating extremely long waits between coarses in addition to empty water glasses along with other service issues.
While the portions were small compared to the price of the dish, the food was quite delicious. I had a pickled herring appetizer with beets which was truly divine, but cost $14 for 2 herring, 3 slices of beets and a sparse garnish of greens. The brisket entree with horseradish gremolata was rich and luscious but there were two small slices served over a small amount of sautéed greens for $28. Ultimately, while I enjoyed every bite, I left hungry. Combined with a mixed bag of staff friendliness, hard seating, and a very loud atmosphere that was not particularly warm nor welcoming, I will likely choose to explore other local restaurants that offer a better overall value than this one. Happy I tried it though!
I LOVE La Posta. It's my number one favorite restaurant in Santa Cruz.
Great Santa Cruz dining. Homemade pasta, bread, desserts ... innovative menu, great service and a vegan option to boot.
Just GREAT! It is always nice to find you like something new savor.
The food was very salty, it was very expensive and not worth it.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable family meal. Food was creative, some local ingredients were used (interesting citrus, chanterelles, fresh walnuts, step ladder cheese, etc., etc.). Kudos to the kitchen. Our previous trip to Santa Cruz we'd unfortunely dined at the companion restaurant Soif Wine Bar which left much to be desired...
Always fabulous in every way. If you haven't tried La Posta, you are missing something special!
One of the best dining experiences in Santa Cruz, really good food, exceptional service and friendly warm place. Unique food choices with daily specials. Great wine list, parking in back, what more could you want...
Creative seasonal menu with top quality ingredients. I have eaten at La Posta since second year it opened and have never been disappointed. The salads are an inspiration. Last visit I ate trout which was delicious. Pastas are sensational. Pizza crusts crisp with original toppings. Lovely French wines. Staff is knowledgeable about food because they try dishes beginning of night. Bread is also sold and superb.
Have been to La Posta many times, the Tuesday Neighborhood Night offers inconsistent food quality. This time both my husband`s and my dish were very salty and I am the one who likes salt! My husband had ravioli dish with chanterelles, the mushrooms served on top of the ravioli were not sautéed but charred, one could not tell what one was eating, very disappointing. Made the staff aware of our complaints, no remedy nor offer of remedy was offered. If we do go back, it will not be on Tuesday night. Also, the live music is way, way too loud!
Lovely dining experience; food was excellent, wonderful wine selection and their almond cake with orange curd was the most delicious dessert we've enjoyed in a long time.
Love it! Staples of Santa Cruz
Nice . But server was not attentive . I wish he went over the menu. Also when being served water the busser touched lip of pitcher to each glass, very unsanitary .
Very nice. I do wish the chairs were upholstered., rickety wooden school chairs rather than comfortable grown up dining chairs
Kate is a great server. The food is predictably interesting and excellent. Another nice evening at La Posta!
Ambiance and service was great. Food just was not.
Each dish was delicious, satisfying and beautifully plated. One of our top 3 restaurants for all of 2017. Can't wait to go back.
The heater or Generator or something was very loud. Otherwise wonderful experience.
