la Posta Ratings and Reviews
La Posta is one of the best restaurants in the Monterey Bay area and over the hill too! A delight to visit. Aaron, our waiter is always friendly and personable, and he's very attentive. Everyone there is actually. And the food is soo amazing. It's light, delicate flavors, complex, and balanced. I do recommend La Posta to my friends and others all the time.
Great as always! la Posta is a neighborhood restaurant for us so we’re able to enjoy dinners there several times each year. la Posta is consistently very good. From bread (and it’s incredibly good bread— they do their own from long term starter) to dessert, they know how to prepare and serve an excellent meal.
This was our second time here and the noise level this time was appalling!! You could hardly hear the musicians in the background. It did improve a bit later in the evening, however. The food, though, was as fantastic as before and we weren’t disappointed!! My partner’s smoked cod appetizer was fabulous and we also recommend the brussel sprout pizza . The pizza may sound weird, but it also has light Italian bacon and onion on it and it is really, really good. And I don’t like brussel sprouts and I’m saying this!!! The waiter hovered over us a little too much, like he was trying too hard, and we basically just told him to go away for awhile. Then everything was just fine. Everything was served in a timely manner, and at the right temperature. Also, on Open Table, we requested a widow seat and this wasn’t honored. I know they were busy, but they made no effort that I could tell to hold a table for us when people that had just gotten there were seated at the window. They did say the musicians would be standing there, but it doesn’t account for the 2 ladies who had obviously just been seated. Maybe that’s their policy. It is a neighborhood style restaurant and quite relaxed about things. But, overall, we had a good time and we recommend this place for loud relaxation!! We’ll undoubtedly be back because things change.
Four local friends: much enjoyed Tues "neighborhood night" with generous portions of well composed salad, interesting pizza (prosciutto!), pasta (porcini!), nice wines by the glass. A real bargain of quality food and attentive service at 18 bucks per person. Live instrumental music, tho the background ambience was on the noisy side. We'll definitely keep returning.
While the portions were small compared to the price of the dish, the food was quite delicious. I had a pickled herring appetizer with beets which was truly divine, but cost $14 for 2 herring, 3 slices of beets and a sparse garnish of greens. The brisket entree with horseradish gremolata was rich and luscious but there were two small slices served over a small amount of sautéed greens for $28. Ultimately, while I enjoyed every bite, I left hungry. Combined with a mixed bag of staff friendliness, hard seating, and a very loud atmosphere that was not particularly warm nor welcoming, I will likely choose to explore other local restaurants that offer a better overall value than this one. Happy I tried it though!
We had a thoroughly enjoyable family meal. Food was creative, some local ingredients were used (interesting citrus, chanterelles, fresh walnuts, step ladder cheese, etc., etc.). Kudos to the kitchen. Our previous trip to Santa Cruz we'd unfortunely dined at the companion restaurant Soif Wine Bar which left much to be desired...
Creative seasonal menu with top quality ingredients. I have eaten at La Posta since second year it opened and have never been disappointed. The salads are an inspiration. Last visit I ate trout which was delicious. Pastas are sensational. Pizza crusts crisp with original toppings. Lovely French wines. Staff is knowledgeable about food because they try dishes beginning of night. Bread is also sold and superb.
Have been to La Posta many times, the Tuesday Neighborhood Night offers inconsistent food quality. This time both my husband`s and my dish were very salty and I am the one who likes salt! My husband had ravioli dish with chanterelles, the mushrooms served on top of the ravioli were not sautéed but charred, one could not tell what one was eating, very disappointing. Made the staff aware of our complaints, no remedy nor offer of remedy was offered. If we do go back, it will not be on Tuesday night. Also, the live music is way, way too loud!
Our experience was nice, I did have a small issue with the appetizer (oyster) there was a bit to much shell fragments for me. Otherwise the meal was fantastic, and our server was attentive and helpful (very knowledgeable on wine pairings for our meal). So all in all I would recommend La Posta for a great meal.
La Posta is our go to date night. Never disappointed - we check the menu which is posted daily and split dishes from each offering. Locally sourced produce, authentic seasonal dishes, wonderful pasta, house made cheese and gelato to die for...neighborhood restaurant, service attentive but not intrusive. Reasonable wine list including house. This is a local gem.
This was our second visit to La Posta and we were not disappointed. We shared the special beef cheeks terrine, fennel and arugula salad and lamb tagliatelle. they did not disappoint. The cheese course was a bit weird (no bread or crackers) but very tasty, and the buckwheat dessert was also yummy.
