la Posta Ratings and Reviews
This was our second visit to La Posta and we were not disappointed. We shared the special beef cheeks terrine, fennel and arugula salad and lamb tagliatelle. they did not disappoint. The cheese course was a bit weird (no bread or crackers) but very tasty, and the buckwheat dessert was also yummy.
I've been to La Posta a few times over the years and it is always a solid restaurant. This time around, we had some great food but also ran into some issues. Perhaps we just experienced an off night. The break-down:
Nettle pizza: Delicious, 5 stars
Warm olives: Amazing, 5 stars
Bread: Fantastic, 5 stars
Braised pork rotolo pasta dish with chanterelles: This was my entree, and it was unfortunately much too salty. I had to give half of it to my boyfriend as I couldn't finish it. 2.5 stars.
Clam pasta with pancetta: My mom ordered this. Very good, simple dish, though she felt it was a bit too salty as well. 4 stars.
Panna cotta: Very tasty, though a bit sweet and a pretty small portion. 3.5 stars.
My boyfriend and dad had the special pasta and I can't remember what was in it. It was good, but lacked a bit in flavor/sauce. 4 stars.
Our server was friendly and recommended a fantastic wine, though I can't remember the name. We did encounter an issue with the service though, which was that the wait time in between our appetizers and entrees was abnormally long. I'd estimate that it took about 40 minutes. We aren't the types to hassle our waiters but were on the verge of saying something when we saw our food on the way. Maybe this is petty, but it irks me when something like that happens and the staff doesn't offer an apology or at least acknowledge that you've been waiting so long.
Overall, we had a good experience and I would go again with the hope that we wouldn't encounter the same problems again next time.
The menu choices are seasonal and creative. We share several small plates so we can experience more of the unique and delicious combinations. The brussel sprouts and persimmons were a highlight this month. Save room for the fresh pasta and light pizzas. To top it all the elegant, yet casual atmosphere is a perfect end to a day In Santa Cruz.
Excellent food, service and ambiance. A real gem. Step inside and you'll feel like you're in an Italian bistro. The food is excellent, on par with the best that San Francisco has to offer. The pasta is cooked to perfection, and the bread is crusty on the outside, moist on the inside... irresistible. Seriously, it's irresistible. So don't go if you're trying to stick to a low carb diet. Do go if you feel like some fantastic dining.
La Posta was OK, but the only food that was above average was the pizza. The wine list had some decent Italian reds, but the Dolcetto we ordered was served too warm, making it taste harsh. The arugula salad had rounds of sweet potato in it, which was not to our taste. The "saffron chitarra" was essentially spaghetti, and the chicken saltimbocca was dry. There was nothing bad about the meal, but nothing particularly good either, with the possible exception of the pizza.
I was disappointed in both the food and the service during my most recent visit to La Posta. Having eaten there several weeks earlier, I was surprised at the drop off in the quality of both food and service. The hostess seemed disinterested in seating us. She indicated they had to push two tables together for a party of 6, which they did, but ten minutes later she had not sought us out to seat us, so we seated ourselves. She then chastised us for sitting down before the napkins and utensils had been placed on the table. I guess she preferred we stand outside in the cold while she chatted with someone at the bar. Our waiter also seemed more interested in things other than being our server.
We dine here often as it is our favorite restaurant in Santa Cruz. The food was truly superb tonight-could not recommend it more highly, as was the service. I must complain again about the wine list and recommend that you bring your own. Other than that it was perfect!
This restaurant was a great find. It is a quaint building with that is very inviting. The menu was small but diverse. The delicata squash salad was not only visually appealing but delicious. My husband loved his pork chop and my gnocchi was good. I will put this on my list of favs for Santa Cruz.
The salads, breads, cocktails and entrees are brilliant! Love the surprise of of new menu items every time i go. On the down side, as a pastry chef i have been disappointed in the desserts each time. Sorry!! Italian desserts are my favorite to make and eat and each time I've tried them here it's left a lot to be desired.
But this is still my favorite restaurant in Santa Cruz!
The food was absolutely delicious. I'm a pretty good cook, but I've never been able to get halibut crispy on the outside and succulent inside. The preparation was the first time I'd ever experienced this fish living up to the expense. My date (husband) and I shared a salad, pasta dish, and entree, and while it wasn't inexpensive, I've paid far more for meals I could prepare better at home. With desert, we had plenty of food, but bigger appetites should probably order one more dish. Overall it was a relaxing, delicious treat that was well worth our time and money.
In the past 7 years this has been my favorite restaurant in Santa Cruz. My family has enjoyed many wonderful meals here... but my last 2 dinners here have been quite mediocre. I wonder if the kitchen staff has changed because the food just isn't as good as before...
