About La Plazuela at La Fonda on the Plaza

La Plazuela was the hotel’s original 1920s patio and it retains that sunlit Old World charm. Skylights flood the dining room with natural light and handsome carved furnishings, artisanal lighting, and our much-loved hand painted windows create a beautiful, inviting room to gather, to dine and to make memories in. The menu was crafted to showcase old favorites with New World influences and authentic New Mexican cuisine, and our award-winning wine list is exceptional. La Plazuela at La Fonda on the Plaza is Santa Fe’s gathering place. Come dine with us!

First time In 20 years we had poor service. They were not busy so no excuses. Very slow delivering drinks, apps, entrees and water! Disappointed to say the least!

Wow. What can I say? We were staying at La Fonda for two nights and during that time ate at La Plazuela twice for breakfast and once for dinner. The food is amazing and the service is just flawless. It was our anniversary and the server noted that. Extensive wine list, local food specialties, as well as more traditional fine dining entrees. We would return here any time - both to the hotel and the restaurant. But make a reservation or you might be disappointed. PS: Great live music in adjacent bar some nights.

We opted for the traditional New Mexican dishes. The service was great but the food was just average. My husband had the filet with enchilada and the steak was tough. Their tequila selections were nice so we opted for a drink instead of dessert. We love the location and the feel of this restaurant, but is just seems tired? This was not our first time dining here, but we may search out other restaurants when our travels bring us back to New Mexico.

This place is very special & very historical. Just to sit in the dining room is amazing. The food just makes this place over the top. Every thing we ate was delicious. I had the Friday night special , Prime Rib, which was. Cooked to perfection!
Highly recommend this place for a special evening or just a nice meal in a historic location!

The restaurant was so beautifully decorated for Christmas...really lovely!
The food was good, but I think I should have asked for the prime rib to be well done....it was too raw for me. The vegetables were delicious as was the dessert.

After seeing La Plazuela on several top 10 lists for restaurants in Santa Fe, we decided to make reservations for our last night of our trip. The restaurant is located in the center of the historic La Fonda in, just off of the Plaza. Our waitress was very attentive. The menu was reasonably priced. Most items are New Mexican classics and we had a great meal. We liked the atmosphere, it was just after Thanksgiving and they were decorated for Christmas and had several fires going in the lobby. It was cozy, but slightly fancier than the typical Santa Fe casual. We enjoyed our meal at La Plazuela and would recommend it to anyone visiting Santa Fe.

Being locals, we always take our visiting guests here for an authentic New Mexican experience. La Plazuela Restaurant is charming and has historical significance with a nice fountain feature in the middle of the large, glass enclosed room that used to be an outdoor patio. We usually order their fajitas and stuffed poblano peppers. However, this time we ordered their filet mignon and lamb and both entrees were excellent. They were prepared as well as any fine dining we have in Santa Fe and priced fairly for the quality. We loved our soup and salads and desserts as well. We have always found the wait staff a little slow to start (5-10 minutes) but then they are spot on and very professional. Most of them are latinos which adds to the feel of the place. They also have excellent margaritas and decent wine by the glass.

The guac and chips are amazing! As are the rellenos. Definitely pricey but in line with the fanciness of the hotel, quality of food, and level of service. If you feel like “springing” on a meal in Santa Fe, this would be the place to do it!

Had been looking forward to trying La Plazuela since La Fonda had been restructured and bought out...thought our family trip to SF during the Thanksgiving holidays would be perfect. We started with the tableside guacamole...which was delicious. The rest of our meal was marginal. The food was tepid and most of our party didn't even finish their meal. Too bad...the hotel and the restaurant are beautiful so the ambiance is great, but the meal was a big disappointment.

We had a wonderful evening at La Plazuela for a date night while vacationing in Santa Fe. The atmosphere was fantastic and service was exceptional. The tableside guac was delicious and fun. The burrito is a little boring, but still tasty. We HIGHLY recommend the chile rellenos. Overall, we had a fantastic meal and experience and can't wait to return someday.

We arrived for our reservation and were told they didn't have a table ready. Took 15 or 20 minutes to seat us, so even with a reservation you may have to wait. The room is a bit noisy. My DH and I were at a two top which was way longer than is typical so a bit hard to talk. I couldn't move next to him as I would have been in the server's walk way to other tables. Room is charming. We sat next to a fountain. Not intimate though. Foodwise: My Rellenos plate was phenomenal. I loved everything on it. The black beans, posole, guac were terrific, and the best Rellenos I've had. Hands down. DH also liked his enchiladas.

All 3 of us had an excellent dinner here. I can only vouch for the sea bass and that
was superb! The guacamole could have been spicier so if you like a lot of flavor,
be sure to tell the preparer to go heavy on the garlic and spices!

Our dinner as a family here was amazing! We had our 2 young kids and older parents with us and everyone enjoyed the atmosphere. The table side guacamole is an absolute must!--we have never had such amazing guacamole and chips! The ultimate highlight had to have been the tortilla soup as well, phenomenal taste and presentation! Everyone's dish was perfect and enjoyed each bite! The only thing lacking may have been the margarita which was a bit weak. --We will most certainly return when back in Santa Fe!

We went two days in a row. We are so glad we did!! We went on a Friday night to celebrate my Birthday. Free dessert was a nice touch! We were driving in on an 8 hour trip. We ended up having to reschedule our reservation 3 times and they still had a table ready for us. The food was excellent. We loved it.
I am vegetarian and they were very accommodating. Cashew loaf was great! My husbands steak was perfect. We went Saturday for lunch, we didn’t realize they do not do the table side guacamole for lunch. We were disappointed we missed it the night before. Be sure to order it if you have the chance. We asked the lunch server but she said it’s only for dinner. We had enchiladas with the sauce in the side. Excellent!! Service was better at dinner. The young lady was very attentive. Lunch server was a young gal too, but she was not as helpful or quick. Excellent food and atmosphere and we will definitely return. Excellent margaritas!!!! This place is a guaranteed delicious meal, nice experience, lovely atmosphere.

Slowwww service. It was 10 minutes after we sat down until the server came by. It was another 10 minutes before we got our drinks. We both got filets and they had no seasoning. Not impressed.

Beautiful dining room, superb service and great food. La Plazuela offers a wonderful mix of Southwestern and traditional American fare, sometimes on the same plate. Of course, the margaritas are wonderful, with numerous varieties to choose from, and the wine list well thought out. La Plazuela is always at the top of my list every time I visit Santa Fe.
