La Piazza Dario Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
An enjoyable dining experience - almost. The service was prompt and friendly and the food was nicely prepared although on the small portion size. The only thing that prevents this restaurant from being great is the fact that dinners arrived warm rather than hot. It was as if the plates sat after being readied until someone remembered to pick them up. It was a very busy night, but that doesn't excuse the lack of care to bring the plates out hot. This warm rather than hot disappointment even continued to the coffee after dinner. At $3 for a coffee, hot is the least it should be.
Worth a try, but not the great experience one hopes for.
We have been going to La Piazza Dario for years. The food is unfailingly delicious and freshly cooked, the menu is extensive, the service is mature and gracious, and the ambiance is distinctive , looking out on a park-like setting. I have never had a bad experience there, and recommend it to friends.
We love this place. The food is fabulous. Patrons are treated well by knowlegeable waiters. (They can interpret /advise on choices from the impressive wine list,. The owners are hands-on and available. You won't want to miss the great Italian ambiance that goes along with all the other fine features of this restaurant.
The food was fantastic and beautifully prepared!
We went on a Saturday night and the place was packed. Considering that the restaurant which is a big place was full, the service was fast and very friendly.
I would not say it is a "romantic" place as one is aware of all the people around, so no quiet corners. Nevertheless, it was not loud.
Overall I had one of the best Italian dinners in Vancouver.
It was, as usual, a reliably wonderful venue to bring out of town guests to. The food was delicious, well prepared and carefully presented. The servers are polite and just familiar enough to enjoy a joke with. They are also suitably present without being overbearing. I always enjoy a pleasant evening at Darios, and have done so for the last 25 years.
Service always excellent. Menu doesn't change with the seasons although the food is prepared to a high standard. The chef's daily 'fresh sheet', although it's not written, never fails as my choice. Had Alaska Black Cod au Provencal & it was delicious. An excellent Pinot Grigio was recommended by our waiter - too bad it is not available to purchase at retail. Love the variety of choice for after dinner grappa, and of course their natural skill at making espresso!
I've been to La Piazza Dario a few times over the years and always find the food to be of high quality. On our most recent dinner we started the meal with avocado e gamberetti, which I highly recommend. My husband and I shared it and there was plenty for two. Our main courses were pastas. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the flavours were very good.
I like the décor and ambience of the room as well. It's an elegant place with tasteful decor. For warm weather dining there is a small patio off the main room which is quite charming.
The service has always been very good as well. Servers are pleasant and engaging, and I've enjoyed interacting with them. Overall, I recommend this restaurant as a neighbourhood gem.
The first server told us about the specials, took our drink order and was very pleasant and friendly. From the onset, our actual waiter was unfriendly, seemed irritated with my mother and I and was not pleasant in any way. I would rather have walked to the kitchen and placed my own order. I won't go back there because of the service. The waiter should not be in a customer service position. I hope he doesn't represent the restaurant.
This time I found the portion sizes significantly smaller than in previous times. For instance, the "roasted potatoes" that were to come with several of our meals turned out toe be ONE HALF boiled potato per serving. Also there was a significant lag time between the dishes of our party of 6 - half the people were served while the rest had to wait about 5 minutes to get their food albeit it was not very busy in the restaurant that night.
For an appetizer we had smoked salmon pate, which was delicious (but I wish they gave us more bread). For the entree we had rack of lamb and pasta. The rack of lamb was delicious, the pasta was disappointing and bland. We ordered the house wine, but it had a horrible plastic aftertaste.
The atmosphere was quite cozy and nice, but the service was mediocre. It took a very long time to get the bill, and only after we asked two separate servers did we eventually get it.
I have been to this restaurant on a few occasions and have always appreciated the food. This restaurant must cater to its regulars because it seems indifferent to infrequent visitors. Our order was "lost" and other than a tepid apology, no effort was made to make amends.
On Friday, February 6th we had dinner @ Darios. The food was good but unfortunately service was terrible. We were left on our own for the entire evening. We had to ask for more water, a dessert menu and eventually our bill. None of the servers came to ask how our meal was. Our tip reflected the lack of service / attention we received that evening. We will not be going back to the restaurant.
We thoroughly enjoyed all the food we ordered. From the appetizers to the entrees , every dish was delicious. They also accommodated us with salads that were on the lunch menu but not on the dinner menu. No problem doing them up for us for our dinner. They aim to please.
Well prepared, beautifully set up for our small group, allowing for us to spend time with friends over a well prepared and well presented meal while still feeling like we were part of a general celebration for the coming year. Hospitable hosts and staff. Thank you!
This place serves very good pasta, but I find it a bit on the salty side. I ordered the mussels for appetizer and they are the best! The mussels were fresh, cooked to perfection with tomatoes and white wine. My mother ordered the halibut which was not bad. Just wished the portion was a bit more. I ordered the clam pasta. Again I find it a bit too salty, but overall not too bad. Service was prompt and excellent!
This restaurant never disappoints! Everytime we have gone, the food has been fabulous. The ambiance is great and so is the service! Love it, love it, love it! The only thing I really don't like is how quickly they take away the plates when we are still eating dinner or they think we are done. It is embarrassing for us to have to tell them we aren't done yet when they have already started to pick up the plate. My nephew stepped away from the table and when he came back his food was gone.
Menu is great and the kitchen is always willing to accommodate special needs and requests. We always enjoy the antipasto platter and the Bortolussi lamb is a hit with all. Although out of the way it is by far the best value for authentic Italian food in Vancouver. The staff are very professional and the service is great.
Dario's has great staff an management. They go out of their way to make all guests feel comfortable and at home whether you are 1st time diners or regulars. The food is excellent. Lidia has organized an excellent staff. this should be a regular stop for all special occasions.
We ordered the elk and it had grissel right through it making it hard to CUT and EAT. They would cook us another piece but my wife had her dinner and we like to eat dinner together for her birthday. Maybe some coffee at the end would have smoothed over our disappointment? We did enjoy the rest of the evening and we will come back but not order the elk.
After hearing the radio commercials for years and having the jingle in my ears all along, there was finally a 'groupon' type deal that prompted me to go. The atmosphere and service and food were very good. It is a tad pricey for the amount of food but that was expected. Overall a good experience.
