La Pergola Ratings and Reviews
Just don't understand it. They've been open for several years. Food is very good. Is a way of life atmosphere is very good. They just can't get service right. Staff is not professional. 4 of us for dinner tonight. 3 of us got appetizers. Had to hunt down a waiter after 10 minutes to have someone go look for the 4th appetizer. Same thing happened with entrees. Management really needs to get it together
Last minute reservation on a Saturday night. Restaurant was crowded and a bit hectic though we weren’t rushed to turn the table. Owner very gracious and his co-owner wife the chef, accommodated a special request. Our waiter Juan was terrific and surprised us with a comped desert. All meals were excellent.. well prepared and presented. Restaurant is a little on the expensive side but I wouldn’t hesitate going back.
Before we even ordered, we were not happy with sitting and eating in the dark. Why do restaurants think their patrons like to eat with so little light? Anyway, we thought the food was overpriced and mediocre. The best part of the meal was the mushroom soup. The $14 salad had very little with the greens - tiny pieces of goat cheese and a slice of beets. I asked for dressing on the side and it came dressed. The flounder with lemon was okay and the duck was nothing special. We had to ask several times to get more water. Overall, we were disappointed with the whole meal.
Back again for a lovely dinner before a show at the Papermill. Started with an butternut squash soup which was just delicious. My wife enjoyed the lump crabmeat appetizer. Entrees of veal Milanese and spinach fettuccine also were both excellent. Wish we had time for dessert but needed to head to show.
We ate at La Pergola before seeing a show at the Papermill Playhouse. The service was excellent, and the food was outstanding. Both the staff and the owner made frequent visits to our table to ensure we were enjoying everything. My wife and I started with the La Pergola salad, had lamb chops and the duck for entrees, and finished with the chocolate mousse pie. We had a minor issue with the salad, in that it didn't have goat cheese (as described) and wasn't dressed when it came to the table. This was a minor issue, undoubtedly caused by us splitting the salad. Not only was the situation was quickly remedied, the owner had it removed from our bill anyway! While I wan't expecting this, it was the right thing to do. This was our first visit to La Pergola. And though we would have gone back again anyway, this simple gesture made it a certainty. I would highly recommend La Pergola!
I had made reservations for 5:15 on a Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, it seems that La Pergola - already a relatively small restaurant - was hosting a party late that afternoon that took over half the space. It seems like the staff was short changed (2 waiters, a busboy and the manager?) so they had a hard time keeping up with all that needed doing. So when we arrived, there was no host to greet us at the door and we waited several minutes even just to be seated. The staff rolled out another table and stuck it in an empty spot (the last empty spot?) to seat another couple arriving after us. Imagine the next couple.
Service was a bit on the slow side as the above would suggest. Nevertheless, we made out in time to walk to our show.
Having eaten there before, albeit on a weekday night, I was quite surprised by the service. Perhaps look at one of the other fine restaurants in Millburn.
First timer here and it was not a good night. Service right from the start was non-existent.....non-attentive. Had to ask for bread, had to ask separtely for butter, had to constantly ask for water. Needed to get up from the table to ask the hostess for assistance in getting service. Whilem my specail was quite good, the other diners thought the food was average. When the oener was notified of our issues he said he would take care of us. That didn't happen. Not sure why they expect return customers.....
Excellent food, but tables are very close together. You will likely have someone practically at your table unless you get a table near one of the walls. We were there on a Saturday night and the restaurant was full. Wait staff seemed to be overmatched, and while food was delivered hot and in a timely fashion, they forgot all about us afterwards. It took over 1/2 hour to receive the check after we requested it.
The restaurant looks good. Service wasn't that good. There were 2 waiters, one of them was good but the other wasn't. He didn't even smile. They filled our water glasses in the beginning and never came back to refill the whole time. My boyfriend and I don't eat a lot so we were going to share an entree and the waiter seemed annoyed at that. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be returning to dine here.
LaPergola was a wonderful find. Was attending a show at the Papermill Playhouse and looked on Open table for a suggestion for dinner. We were warmly greeted by the owner and seated at a corner table. The wait staff was very attentive, but not bothersome. The menu was extensive and the specials were truly special. Our food was delicious, appetizer, entree and we even were temped by desert. Will definitely be going back.
BYO with a bottle of Faust, for starters, Caesar salad and eggplant rollatine, two perfect choices. Our entrees of filet mignon and crispy duck breast were enjoyable. Dessert and coffee rounded out a very nice meal. The room was filled with diners going to the Paper Mill Playhouse yet we experienced quality service. It was a quiet evening of good food and wine.
Four of us dined and each one agreed a phenominal meal. We had the black fetuccini with grilled tuna on top. Fresh, beautifully prepared as it arrived at the table. Other veal dishes were very well prepared and also flavorfull where we all agreed , fresh and tasty.
Bring your own wine and you are all set and in good hands.
We booked this for pre-theater on a weeknight as it was close to the Papermill Playhouse. I expected good, but found it to be excellent. I had the grouper and it was perfectly prepared. The service was attentive but not overly so. We will definitely return the next time we are in the area.
Food quality and creativity were very good. Service was poor. Sat at table for 40 minutes before dinner order was taken, and then another 20 minutes before appetizers were served. No staff member ever asked us how we were (or were not) enjoying the meal. Value was below average - for example veal dish had one small cutlet, some mushrooms and a couple of small pieces of artichoke- $34.
Peaceful, pretty restaurant with great service and delicious food. Branzino special with a wonderful beurre blanc sauce, crispy 1/2 roast duck, veal Milanese and always the grilled eggplant parm. for dessert-the tiramisu is back-Yeah! tartufo is delicious as well.
