Just returned from Italy, Pentola is an ideal reminder
it's just okay
We went for Father's Day dinner and chose the seven course option with wine pairing. Excellent, excellent meal and the wine pairings were spot on. Thanks to the wait and kitchen staff for all the little extras. Our favourite dishes? The burrata, carpaccio and that special pre-dessert treat. Definitely recommend
The restaurant does have a bit of echo going on but the noise level wasn't overwhelming the conversation.
This restaurant is part of the Opus Hotel and has been around for a few years. Food is excellent. Elegant, well prepared and full of flavor! We tried Asparagus Salad, Cappelletti and Italian style steak. Bravo! Service is just as good as the food and there's live music!
The best food in Vancouver.
I took a date 8pm on Sunday night.. not very busy. Had the 5 course (surprise menu). Every course was spectacular. The service was equally good.. our server explained each dish brilliantly, including suggestions on where we could purchase a particular cheese in one of the dishes.
At one point my date asked about a song playing in the background and he made a point to find out the artist for her.
I dine out often and appreciate a great restaurant.
Despite the positive ratings for this restaurant, we found it to be mostly disappointing on all levels, especially for the price. We went with the 5 course tasting option and the dishes were served at the "chief's whim", without selection or advance knowledge of what the courses would be. This was not a problem, in fact we were looking forward to the meal. However, each course was adequate at best with the main "entree" course being a very basic hangar steak salad and a final dessert plate of poorly executed and not tasty deconstructed s'mores.
Ultimately, we felt the meal (and service) was more about maximizing profit than providing a great meal and exerience that one would expect for this price. Our meal also was disappointing, given the items offered ala carte, which appeared to be creative dishes and items worth the prices charged. Perhaps we should have ordered a la carte?
For savy eaters willing to spend good money in search of great food, I would recommend trying other restaurtants nearby.
Needs to get back on OpenTable!
Great bartender, fantastic food. Wine is mostly Italian, we had a delicious bottle of Langhe Favorita 2014.
We all enjoyed the various eggs benedict and the salad with it. the bottomless mimosa was a good $10.00 value. Service was casual but very pleasant.
I have had lunch and dinner at La Pentola before and enjoy the Italian cuisine.
We will return!
Innovative Italian cuisine, prepared with flair, but still keeping the tradition of authentic fresh ingredients.
The Parmesan Soufflé salad excellent. The Asparagus Salad delicious.
It was a quiet night and not too many patrons. However, once the food came no one noticed how quiet the space was. Attentive service, but their pasta is second to none in the city. Would go again.
we did the 5-course tasting menu. all 4 of us liked the food a lot, and the service was just perfect. but all of us found the place to be on the noisy side with their loud music, and it was difficult to chat without raising our voices. if they had toned down their music, that would have been a perfect evening for us.
Excellent service and food! Will recommend to friends.
We recently visited La Pentola with another couple and tried the five course meal allowing the chef to serve five surprise creations. Each of the courses was exceptional - creative presentation and very flavourful - especially the lamb pasta. We have been to this establishment twice and will definitely visit again.
Second time here, this time just as amazing as the first. Had the family style 5 course dinner, for 4 of us. Each course was memorable and the server was very attentive. Will definitely return!
Server was knowledgeable and efficient. Food was very good. The birthday macarons were appreciated (and delicious !)
My husband and I have a number of dislikes, allergies, etc. so were a bit wary of entrusting our meal to the chef. Actually I thought the waiter would say our wishes were impossible and we should stick to the a la carte menu! Wrong on both scores. We had an amazing meal. Every course was delicious and catered 100% to the wishes and concerns we had expressed. A seven-course adventure. Not knowing what was on its way made it all the more delicious and exciting. Then each course was explained to us as it arrived, allaying any concerns that something might have slipped in that we couldn't eat. The duck-filled pasta was absolutely the best, and the Parmesan soufflé was 'to die for'. The wines were well-paired (though we'd have preferred more reds) - and the gratis limoncello at the end was a lovely touch. As the evening went on, the atmosphere became increasingly noisy (in a good, happy way) and energetic. Thank you for a terrific, memorable evening.
I've always been a fan of Italian cuisine, but never knew that it could be made with so much salt! Not sure if the chef had just been slightly heavy handed or generous with the salt, but I felt that almost every dish was overly seasoned. We had the 5 course menu, and the highlight would have to be the Parmesan Souffle. Our waitress, who doubles as the bartender on weekends, was absolutely fantastic and helped us send a dish back that my party and I weren't able to eat. Other than that, I might go back to try La Pentola again, but perhaps not the pre-set menus.
A friend of mine was visiting from Vancouver Island and I really needed a quiet place to just enjoy his company and a leisurely dinner and a glass of wine. This turned out to be the perfect choice. Service was attentive and never intrusive. I highly recommend it.
Less stressful and hectic than all the other trendy restaurant picks. Fantastic pancakes!
My girlfriend and I had an excellent meal at La Pentola! We went with the five course experience along with wine pairings. Even though it was quite expensive, the set menu is definitely the way to go and best value. I would highly recommend going here for a special treat.
We went early evening and mid week and restaurant wasn't busy. The food was very good as was the service. The prices were reasonable but we would have like so lower priced options on the wine list.
Breakfast during the week is disappointing. Maybe 4 things on the menu. This menu is not shown online so you are lead to believe the brunch menu is everyday.
2 couples decided to go to La Pentola for Valentine's day. We ordered the feature appetizer, a burrata with figs and such. Absolutely delicious. We also ordered the octopus special. Again, delicious. For our primi, we had the menu's agnolotti - duck confit filled pasta. This dish was quite salty. Unfortunate, because we were anticipating something as delicious like the Agnolotti de Guido from La Quercia their sister restaurant. We then ordered our secondi, the Osso Buco. This too was salty and quite gristly. Not what one would expect for such a reputable establishment. For the price point of this restaurant, we were quite disappointed.
We had the 5 courses meal for celebration of the chines new year. They would spend the time to ask what you eat or don't eat, it's a share plate meal and food portions are big enough, service was very good and will come back for sure!
The dine out menu was delicious. We loved their pasta dishes especially. There was more than enough food because they were generous with thei portions. Great service!
The risotto was our least favorite because it had a strong Gorgonzola taste.
We went for dine out Vancouver and the food was really disappointing. Mediocre is being kind. We were sad as we had been looking forward to this dinner.
Fantastic 4 course Dine Out 2016 meal. The food was great. The service was good and helpful and attentive.
It was amazing. First time here, but it certainly won't be the last. I will definitely return.
Positive experience; I would recommend this restaurant for Sunday brunch.
I've always passed by the restaurant as it was located just opposite the Yaletown skytrain. My friend and I wanted to try their dine out lunch menu on Saturday only to discover that they only serve Dine Out Lunch on weekdays. Both of us had to work during weekdays so we felt kind of bummed not being able to try their dine out menu. Nonetheless, we went in and had their brunch. I ordered a pan seared mackerel and my friend ordered a smoked salmon benedict. Our server was attentive but food came out pretty slow. It wasn't a busy afternoon but it took almost 20 minutes till our food arrived. The food tasted really good though, and we enjoyed it a lot.
Overall we had a pleasant experience at La Pentola. I'd recommend this restaurant to my friends - ONLY if you are not in a rush.
Impressed and pleasantly surprised. I have eaten breakfast threre and enjoyed it. The food was excellent, plentiful and the service outstanding.
I went with my wife to La Pentola to celebrate our anniversary and in the end we were so disappointed.
We decide to choose " ALLA FAMIGLIA" with wine pairing to see what would be the dishes served by the chef. As described on their menu " Each experience is unique - simply tells us your likes and trust our Chef and his kitchen to cook for your table using the array of seasonal produce and meats arriving daily."
The price was $85 per person, but in the end we just got ONE portion by dish, so the 5 course menu was shared between my wife and myself, I even asked the server if that was the system because it was not explicit on the menu dishes were supposed to be shared.
I could not expect any experience similar to that at La Pentola based on some reviews I have read before. Disappointing experience and I might never come back! Even worse when the bill is over $200.
It was so unfortunate to the chefs... Food was great, but the noise level was terrible. Bad selection of music kept going so loudly on the top of the bad live music coming from the lobby. Big groups were loud (that's acceptable though) and the servers kept breaking glasses and plates... We loved the food but I don't think we will go back for dinner. We wanted to have a nice conversation, not shout at each other.
Great restaurant in a great hotel. Delicious food; fast, friendly service and great cocktails. The adjoining lounge is great for pre or after dinner libations.
Fantastic service! Was better than expected for Dine Out.
The food value was great and was served promptly and was very tasty.
A bit pricey for by the wine by the glass we'd just had a bottle of. Guess we should have looked at the menu again.
We were recommended by a friend who enjoyed their experience here, so what better time to try it than during DineOut. We were excited to note that they were offering a four course meal instead of the common three course at many other restaurants.
The portions provided were large and just as good as we've been told. Our experience was very enjoyable as the restaurant was not overly booked. Even tables of two were good sized tables, not small ones with barely enough space for your cutlery and plated menu item. They also have a large round table good for up to 9 people, and an ample bar area as well.
And little known fact - this is the sister restaurant of Quattro, another quality establishment.
Fairly pleasant New Year's Day brunch but noise level was too high, making it difficult to communicate. I wish they could do something to the ceiling or walls to mitigate this. Food was good as usual although portions tend to be on the small side. My mum's toast, accompanying her omelet, was served with no butter! Just dry toast! My toast (ordered as a side) came with butter and jam. Weird. No worries, I just gave her some of my butter. Serving staff was dressed, perhaps, a bit too casually in jeans but that could be part of the eclectic ambiance of the Opus Hotel, who knows? In spite of the above comments regarding toast, the toast itself was great. I wonder where they get their bread or if its made in-house. I forgot to ask. We will return, hopefully to a somewhat quieter table.
The food was fabulous. We chose to dine alla famiglia and went for the seven course option. Each course was nicely presented and explained and tasted superb. The service for the most part fabulous as well except for the wine service which was terribly slow - 20 to 30 minutes once ordered. We sat with empty glasses a lot. They could easily have sold our table of six another two bottles. This was the only negative though. The staff were very attentive. The room had a warm atmosphere. We'll go back for sure - next time we'll order 2 bottles at a time.
