Located in the breathtaking, art deco, boutiuqe Hotel De Anza, La Pastaia is just minutes away from the San Jose International Airport, and walking distance to the Arena, Center for Performing Arts, the Tech Museum and the Convention Center.
Eh. Kind of a weird place
My wife and I went to celebrate our first date 20 years previous at La Pastia. At the time we went, the location of the La Pastia restaurant had shut down, but the Hotel De Anza had moved the restaurant operations to the Hedley Club lounge and bar within the hotel.
The menu was still very similar to the La Pastia. Setting was more typical of a lounge but has some normal dining tables interspersed amongst couches and lounge chairs.
We had salads that were of high quality preparation and ingredients. Service was slow to start but once the bar tender saw we hadn’t been helped he provided some great service and was very friendly.

The Hotel DeAnza is a vintage architectural gem. La Pastaia serves lunch in the old fireplace room which has a great ceiling. Parking is "street" only so bring quarters or the Passport app. The cocktails are OK and so was my salad. OK but not great and not good value for the money.
It was fine
First of all, the maitre d' was very friendly, pleasant and helpful. And actually came around checking to see how things were going.
The waiter was friendly and efficient and really made us feel at home. Service was prompt. (A great improvement from the last time we dined there a year ago.)
The food was quite nice. The kitchen skill have improved dramatically from a year ago. We just had a couple glasses of wine from a thoughtful wine list, shared a host salad which was expertly dressed, a very tasty meatball appetizer in a spicy tomato sauce, and a wonderful margherita pizza.
It was not very crowded for a Saturday night before a Sharks game. We will definitely come back here again.
Made a reservation for Tuesday night at 5:30 via open table. However, when I arrived, we were told the restaurant was closed. it never mentioned this on open table nor on the web site.
Anyway at in the bar. It was no busy but the service was not that good. It took quite a while for someone to wait on us. The server was young but cordial. He did not take all order correctly. We asked for a new drink (it was not made correctly) for one of my colleagues and it took a while for the order to be corrected. The bar tender was bust talking rather than filling customer drinks.
When our dinner came, there was no silverware. It took a while to get. The meal was good.
Sadly you did not tell me restaurant was closed. Our services in the bar was outstanding
My friends and I go to La Pastaia together 3 or 4 times a year before events at the arena and to celebrate birthdays. We went last weekend and the food was pretty good (not great) but the service was really not up to par. And that's not the first time. Our server was a lovely young woman who really had no clue about the food and bar menu and appropriate timing. (E.G. hubby ordered a martini with a specific gin listed on the menu and she didn't understand it was a gin rather than the name of a cocktail. Swore there's no chianti by the glass which I don't believe. Etc) I don't think management of the restaurant prioritizes training staff about the menu. The restaurant was only half full so no excuse for sloppy service because of crowds trying to get to the game. Would not return if not for the location. Too bad as I love the venue. Need to talk our friends into the bar (Hedley Club) next time, which always has excellent service and food.
I ordered a chicken salad sandwich. The salad was great. The sandwich bread was hard like a rock.
I valet parked and was not told that a validation stamp at the restaurant would have saved me about $31. Otherwise it is a good nicer place for lunch.
Appetizers just so-so, meal just didn’t meet previous experiences there. Service was good, he did a good job.
I was so disappointed by our recent meal. La Pastaia used to be one of my favorite restaurants. The service was so incredibly slow. It took 2 hours to have dinner, we kept having to ask for service. The kitchen was very backed up, there was a concert at SAP and the restaurant was busy (as to be expected on a show night next door to SAP), but they were utterly unprepared for the crowds. The food was mediocre, service terrible and the menu was limited. Very disappointed.
Our meal & service was awful. It is the worse upscale restaurant I have been in. The bread was stale, the appetizer was tasteless, the meal was a kit & simply microwaved. Certainly not the quality for the price.
The staff was not attentive & perhaps not adequate for the full dining room.
I would not recommend it at all & will not return.

Absolutely AWFUL experience with Mother's Day brunch. Sub-par food, non-existent service, terribly expensive for what it was. The patio was lovely but we will never go back. If a negative star rating were possible, La Pastaia would certainly have earned it!
In making our reservation, we did not realize that we would be stuck with a buffet brunch. We selected this restaurant in the Art Deco De Anza Hotel because it is within walking distance of the SAP Center. Our reservation was for 2 PM. Several of the stations, such as the one for omelettes, we’re no longer manned. There were no plates at any of the stations. ( A waiter eventually brought out a stack of plates, many of which were still wet.)
Some of the food looked dried out and was very unappealing—crusted over guacamole/avacado mounded on a slice of bread. However, the prime rib was tasty as were the green beans and the green salad. There was also a nice selection of fruit.
Unfortunately, the dessert table left a lot to be desired as it consisted primarily of cupcakes and pies of a quality consistent with Safeway’s bakery. Again, no plates were available. We took saucers away from cups on empty tables to put our food on. Service was friendly but slow. Empty tables and chairs were being disassembled, stacked and removed from the room while we were eating.
I was given a complimentary glass of wine and wished a happy Mother’s Day. The coffee was excellent. The price excluding tip was $125 which we felt was considerably overpriced.

Service was slow, but we were there for a quick dinner before a concert at SAP center. Nothing remarkable about the place or the food but the location was good for what we needed.
Had the salmon not been so dry, the meal would have been perfect.
Wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Restaurant was under staffed. Food was a bit off. Wine selection for by the glass could be improved.
We dined here before the U2 concert, and unfortunately barely made it to the show on time. For this loyal patron of over the 15+ years , Pastaia has been a dependable, tasty option for lunch downtown. The servers are attentive and get to know their familiar 'regulars.' Not so for this dinner.
The service was disappointing for so many reasons. We arrived at 6 pm, and were not served our meal until 7.10. After the initial serving of beverages, we were ignored until I asked the hostess to check on our meal (30-40 after seating). 10 min later the server stopped by to apologize for the delay. The "ticket" that prints out to the kitchen with the order apparently never got there. Another 15 min. The diners seated next to us experienced a similar, but not quite as long of a wait. It is a mystery why the server didn't take it upon herself to check on our meal as she presented bills to at least 2-3 other tables who had arrived after us. She appeared harried, stressed and clearly did not have enough help. The kitchen was backed up to, as our neighbors were told by our server. It's a concert night! They had a full house. How can management not staff for it??
We had ordered the cheese stick appetizer. 4 tiny sticks for $12. Really? When the food arrived, my salmon salad was fine, as expected. My husband's 1/2 'n 1/2 spaghetti and ravioli was subpar, unattractively served in 2 big bowls making it awkward to eat. We brought our own wine, and ordered a single glass while we waited and waited. The corkage was $20. Further SJ has the 5% surcharge that some (not all) restaurants are charging for the increase in minimum wage. Again, Really? After such a lousy experience, the least the server could have done was waive corkage, the appetizer or some such. Nothing. I walked to hostess and requested an adjustment to the bill, perhaps waiving the corkage. This was done. Bad taste in my mouth. I'll dine here for lunch, but dinner will be a long time in coming.
We sat down ordered drinks and then 25 minutes later left. Drinks never showed up and no one took our food order.
The best thing about the restaurant is that it is close to the SAP center. Food was average at best. The booth seats were ripped and the restaurant is very tired and is in need of a facelift very badly. We won’t be going back
Went before a concert at SAP center-beautiful and delicious. Will go back again at every eve t at SAP. Loved it!
Great service if you arrive early enough before a show at the SAP center (don't wait until just an hour before). The food was very fresh, filling and just as described. We will definitely return.
Worse dining experience I've ever had. Party of 4, we ordered drinks, 2 were not good so we sent them back and ordered 2 more. We didn't get our drinks for over an hour even with numerous discussions with our server. His response was "the bar's backed up". I can understand that for 15, maybe 20 mins, but over an hour? We asked for bread several time, were told "it's coming"...it never came until the end. The pizza came out cold, the pasta was one lumpy mess so we didn't eat it and sent it back. I get the place was busy as it was before a JT concert, but don't lie and say something is coming when it's not. We would have been more understanding with just the truth. The manager apologized and said they were having staffing issues and needed to retrain everyone, which can't come fast enough for them.
Went for lunch with 2 guests...Made reservations... Used valet parking...
Cheerful hostess sat us immediately...All was well !!!...Took 10-15 minutes for waiter to show up...Order beverages and meal...Beverages serves 5 minutes later... In the interim waiter seems to have disappeared...Waited another 20 minutes for food (simple order..sandwich, salad, appetizer)... Finally different waiter noticed we had not been served...found our waiter and both brought food for two of us... Additional waiter noticed disturbed look on my face and asked if he could help...He found the missing third meal and brought it...In the interim hostess walked by with bread tray and asked if we had ordered bread (laughable at this point)...No one ever asked if we needed anything else (tea or water refill)... Food quality was average to below average...Finally caught a waiters eye and asked for the bill...That came immediately !!! Next had valet parking ticket validated by server and took it to desk in order to retrieve auto...Clerk says "Who signed this ticket"...as if I would know his name...told her my waiter...Her response...well I'm going to charge you anyway...Not a lot of money...At this point just wanted to get out... took ticket for car to valet for auto retrieval...Valet was nicest person in the hotel...Handed me my keys...opened the car door...Stopped traffic so I could pull out...He needs to be running the hotel !!! Hotel/restaurant needs new management and server staff...Also could upgrade kitchen staff as they seems confused and terribly disorganized...Hotel DeAnza at one time was a "go to" place for good food and service...Currently avoid if you are eating in city center. Much better places can be found...
Food, as ever, was very good. Service was excellent - attentive but not hovering.
Absolutely an embarrassment to the food and beverage industry. We had 545 dinner reservations in order to make the 730 play which we advise them. It took three trips to the hostess to find someone there. There was only 1 other table occupied. The food was again an embarrassment. It looked like it had been sitting Which I’m sure it was as we waited almost 35 minutes for our meal. Obviously we had to box most of it in order to make 730 appointment. They comped my meal which really wasn’t necessary but they will never see me or many of my other friends that I will tell about this experience in the restaurant ever again
Our dinner entre's all came at different times and my wife's never came! Staff seemed oblivious to the poor service even after we told them 3 times that my wife's dinner hadn't been served. A major disappointment.
We enjoyed lunch at The Hedley Club in the DeAnza Hotel. The food is from La Pastaia’s kitchen. Jack, the waiter and bartender, is great! He is a terrific guy with a great sense of humor. I highly recommend having lunch there!!
The serve was very slow including taking the waiter over 20 minutes to greet us at our table. Food was very good and a good value though they offered a limited menu
We waited 15 minutes with no service, asked to move to an area where the server was not as busy, and then waited almost 15 minutes again without service. I used to like this restaurant before events at SAP center, but I will not be back again......no reason to go there to just sit.
Worst experience ever. Waitress took drink orders and food orders from guests who arrived after us. She kept serving and waiting on other tables but wouldn’t wait on us, even though she knew and acknowledged we had been waiting. Took 30 minutes to get our drink order and appetizers. Took another 30 for appetizers to arrive. Our pizza with proscuitto and pears was worse than a frozen pizza. The meat was dried out and did not taste fresh. Way too much cheese. My date’s wine had turned (Lichen Pinot), but we were afraid to say anything. Bill came with a desser item charged on it. We gave 1.5 hours for a meal and ended up late for our event. Worst dining experience.
Excellent food. Professional service. Quiet and relaxing. Great for dinner before a Sharks game then short walk to Shark Tank.

The food and ambiance were great.
They added a $5.00 surcharge because they gave the staff raises and they didn't want to raise the prices of the food. I think that is dishonest and wasn't too pleased about it. We were already paying $50.00 for brunch.
We ate at the Hedley Club, in the DeAnza Hotel, served by La Pastaia Restaurant. We enjoyed it very much.
Ask for Jack. He’s a great waiter.
The lunch we scheduled through Open Table never happened because when we arrived we were told that they don't serve lunch on Saturday's only the breakfast buffet was available (and was very picked over).
We had scheduled for a 11:15a lunch and received a confirmation from Open Table.
Also, there was a protest march taking place during that time and it was almost impossible to get close to the restaurant. We walked 5 blocks to get to the restaurant.
Do recommend from past experiences.
