Limited Menu. Seafood that had a strong odor and unfresh taste. Ingredients are low quality. Simple thing like pepperoni on the pizza was cheap, rubbery and artificial. Biggest disappointment may have been dessert, which they called Creme Brulee, but looked and tasted like it came right from the freezer at Costco. Canned frozen berries dumped on a lumpy cream filling, nothing resembling creme brulee. Not sure how they get away with this. Visually, this place has a very nice look & feel, but they're either cutting costs on the food, don't know what they're doing, or just think diners in SJ are ignorant.
The server was efficient and friendly. The calamari was good. Two people had pasta which was good. My mother and I had roasted chicken piccata. On top of the chicken was lumpy white gravy or sauce. Very unappetizing. The server said the chef had made the sauce thick. And he sent it out? She took it back and he replated it which meant scraping off the weird lumpy white sauce. The server comped us 20%. Very strange especially when the menu is limited.
Been going here for Sharks pre-game meals for years. The restaurant is in trouble. Limited menu, poor food preparation and slow and untrained service. The place was mostly empty due to others knowing better. We will not be back. Disappointing as this was a constant.
If you want bad service at a high price, this is the restaurant for you. I have had better service at a fast casual restaurant! Not acknowledged after being seated, waited 20 min and still had to ask the hostess for our waiter. He apologized saying that he didn't know he was responsible for this section but service just as bad the next day for breakfast with different wait staff. BAD!
Nice evening, good service. We celebrated my husband’s birthday before walking to the SJ Performing Arts Center for a musical. There were three persons being attentive to our desires- all very pleasant. We ordered pasta dishes which were delicious, and had pumpkin cheesecake for dessert. Yes, I’ll go again!
We came before a San Jose Sharks game. Three pizzas and spaghetti and meatballs was ordered by our group. The pizzas are good sized. The 2 men finished theirs, but my friend and I could have split one. The spaghetti and meatballs were a generous portion. The sauce was a bit bland, but the meatballs were quite tasty. They were out of the ravioli that I was hoping to order. That could have been said when we received our menus so that I didn't have to go back and choose another option. Overall, good meal.
Worse service I have ever experienced. Ordered a bottle of wine and it took 15 minutes to tell me they were out. Ordered another bottle and 10 minutes later the waiter showed up with it but broke the corkscrew in the cork. A full half hour after his arrival my guest was offered a glass of wine. Then they brought us salads that weren’t ours. Then brought us our side vegetables before we even got our salads. Then they brought us entrees that weren’t ours. Finally got our entrees. All of this as the restaurant was not even full.
I've been going to La Pastaia since it opened, and am sorry to report the restaurant has taken a turn for the worse. Pasta was soggy and not fresh or tasty. Restaurant added a $3.10 "Service Charge" to the bill without advertising in or on menu. Waiter said it was to recover increases in minimum wage. He apologized but said the mgmt/owner was responsible - very shady practice. I would try to find another restaurant until La Pastaia gets their groove back.
Went on a busy Sunday. They sat us near the kitchen. It was hot and noisy. Our food was great but it took a long time to receive it. Our server did not know information on the menu nor did she offered to find out the questions we are asking. I will return knowing the service will not be good because the food was that good
The food was delicious. We had the kale salad and the salmon and both were very tasty. The service was also excellent. The air conditioning wasn't working properly so we were a little warm during dinner but we made the best of it. It was a wonderful dinner location before going to the Neil Diamond Concert.
Attended prior to a concert at the SAP center. Has a great location within walking distance of the arena. The restaurant was busy but not packed. Drinks, appetizers and entrees were all very enjoyable but came out very slowly. Our waitress was very pleasant and apologized for all 3 courses being tardy. We were seated about 10 mins earlier then our 6:30 reservation but barely made it out before our 8:00 show.
My friend and I (2 woman) were seat in the worst seat in the house. Stuck in the isle where all the servers go back and forth.....Had to request a better seat. By the way, the restaurant was empty at the time.
We ordered appetizers and the meal arrived but the appetizer and plates were still on the table. So server was juggling to remove dirty plates and serve our entree.
The restaurant began to fill up quickly and the heat was unbearable. It felt like there was no air-conditioning!! Everyone was fanning themselves. Nothing worst than eating a hot Italian meal and no air-conditioning. Sorry but too many choices to eat in San Jose so I will not be returning.
I used to go to La Pastaia before all of the musical concerts but no more! . To begin, my friends cocktail came about 10 minutes after my glass of wine was served to me . Then my chicken was served well, well after my friends two dinners were served. My chicken was dry -as though it had been cooked the day before, there were three asparagus spears and instead of the new potatoes they threw on a half a plate of french fries without telling me.
Great food, friendly and attentive service, great ambience. Only downside was we went there before a concert at SAP center and the bar was SUPER busy so took a long time to get our drinks. Everything else was spot on and will be going there every time go to an event at the SAP center.
Seemed like a really popular place. It's loud when packed. The food was just okay (salmon entree and risotto). But the pizza was not good at all; our waiter seemed surprised that we didn't want to take the leftovers home (we ate less than half of it. He also made a face when we said we didn't want dessert. 😬😳
I have to this restaurant before and always felt the meals were good. Not this time. It was restaurant week and the menu options were quite reduced and not of the variety I'd expect. My chicken was salty and dry, the asparagus tough, and the boiled potatoes tasteless. And the chicken was covered in capers. I'm not sure I'll go back to La Pastaia after this.
We had excellent food, great service, and much fun. Andre made our day. He was helpful with explaining the menu and different sauces. He was personable and was wonderful to interact with on a business, professional, and personal level.
We will return for sure.
I eat here with friends whenever I go to a concert. But I was really taken aback when my guest asked for bread and was told there would be a $ 2.00 fee. How ridiculous I have to say. I actually mentioned this to a friend and they told me they got up a left. Seems pretty petty to me.
I also ordered the special which was swordfish. The presentation was nice, the portion was large but the inside of the fish was undercooked. I could have sent it back but elected to just eat the outside edges which was okay. Didn't want to take extra time due to concert.
