Arrived exactly at reservation time and was immediately seated, not in the main room but what I would consider the patio room. It was very cold but no where to move to.
Food & service was very good. Like the fact they offer 1/2 carafe wines. Zucchini frites were very good. While all the dishes were good, they seemed flat, somewhat bland but again, all very good. Would have preferred regular pasta in lieu of angel hair with my veal. Shrimp scampi was good but lacked taste. Another had pizza which was really good. I would still recommend this restaurant. You’ll have to add seasoning at your own risk.
Great neighborhood spot. Always comfortable and welcoming.
One of the few restaurants in Bethesda where you can carry on a conversation. Cozy ambiance and very professional service. I have never had a disappointing meal here.
Love the place. Easy going, traditional with great food!
Nice for dinner, this is our second visit. We were celebrating a late Valentines Day!
Great authentic Italian food. Friendly service. Neighborhood gem!
La Panetteria is a fine, authentic Italian restaurant. Their menu includes a mix of seafood, veal and meat dishes, soups and salads, and exquisite homemade pastas. The wines list is good and reasonable. The ambiance is old world with a neighborhood feel.
NICE SIZED PORTIONS--NOT TOO MUCH./...................................................................................................................................................AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA........................................................................................................................................
Just an FYI. They do NOT have valet service as indicated in the app. Parking was not a problem. Good food, traditional. Service was spotty but very friendly. They were busy. I think that’s a good thing. The sautéed calamari is fantastic! We brought a nice bottle of Amarome and they graciously served for a nominal fee. We will definitely return.
Consistently excellent food...but I must admit, I always get the linguine with vongole (clams) white sauce.
I had Scaloppine Alla Marsala and the veal was tough! Not tender at all!!
Food was average
Great service great food
I haven’t been here in ages, and it was so great to go back again and know it is as good as ever! They are so accommodating! I ordered the cheese ravioli with meat sauce which wasn’t an option on the menu and it was delicious!
Great for a date night or everyday dining!!!
It’s been there for at least 25 years for a reason!
The food at this family neighborhood gem is excellent overall, and a good value. At a recent visit however our garlic bread was covered in what seemed to be almost raw garlic. Every one of our entrees was nevertheless excellent - great lamb, excellent fish and a wonderful carbonara. If the owners could change the lighting, the place would feel really cozy, but right now the light is pretty bright and harsh.
It’s a quiet neighborhood type of Italian restaurant. The food was good, standard Italian fare but not to die for.
Overpriced, underwhelming Italian food. There was plastic in our Calamari, most likely from the bag it was frozen in. Server made us feel guilty for notifying her of this.
We had a large family get together and were happy to get a reservation for a large group without advanced notice. I had the Rockfish special which was the most expensive item on the menu had a strong fishy taste. We will not be going back.
Tried again after 20 year separation and initial disappointment and was pleasantly surprised. Tartufo for dessert was excellent. Everyone enjoyed their food. Definitely better than the two other nearby Italian restaurants grouped on Cordell Ave just East of Old Georgetown Road.
Very good and very reasonable restaurant in downtown Bethesda. We have been here several times. The service is good and they are very accommodating. We were able to drop our elderly uncle, who uses a walker, very close by the front door, and there is a parking garage within 1/2 block. Especially recommended: lemon sorbet for dessert - it's the real thing!!
We dine there every Christmas Eve and enjoy our food and conversation. It is a very popular place on Christmas Eve. Thank you.
We enjoyed a delightful Christmas Eve dinner--delicious meal and very pleasant service!
This is our favorite neighborhood Italian. We went on Christmas Eve and they were packed, but staff was friendly, definitely not stressed. Owner was on site, welcoming people. The food is always good, never any surprises. We were delighted to see how busy they were and how accommodating they were. Love this neighborhood gem.
I never knew that this restaurant was very good taste. Although the pasta was not aldente, pasta sauce was really good and salads dressing was a really good!
This lovely restaurant is charming, with creative pasta dishes and an especially tasty pink sauce. It's a great value for lunch. Attentive, unobtrusive service.
I was disappointed in the service during my visit. I had to track down the server at least three times. For the price of the food, shouldn't need to do that.
This place will not disappoint. The food is outstanding and the ambiance is great. Service was top notch. This little neighborhood Italian restaurant is a hidden Gem. We will definitely be back!!!!
Unassuming entrance leads to festive old world charm; what a contrast to the newer restaurants with the modern ambiance; love the wall paintings!
Restaurant made balsamic vinegar is out of the world. Mushroom ravioli is delicious; grilled lamb is done just right. And the Tiramisu, OMG, was about to lick the cocktail glass it came in!
Food is very basic but less expensive than in italian restaurants in DC.
Tried ravioli with meat and cheese, house salad, eggplants, soup.
My dad said that ravioli from frozen section of Trader's Joe are much better.
Service was not so good - slow and incompetent - waitress was not able to explain anything or provide any suggestion at all.
We are not returning, sorry.
Sadly, this time around, the restaurant didn't impress. The server spilled water on my spouse, as in the whole glass went in his lap, then proceeded to pat his lap(!) with napkins. OK, this happens every now and then, but I would have expected a gesture of a free dessert or glass of wine or something! There was a language confusion about when we wanted appetizers/salads as our server was not Italian or American. We were somewhat rushed through appetizers to bring on the meal--ie timing was not going well. Also, remove just one table please in this space and everyone will be more comfortable--it's too close together and my 6'2" son was hanging in the aisle. Food was fine, wasn't expecting a Michelin rating, but the serving disappointed us all.
Very cute restaurant. Good food, good service.
Loved our server - she was really good in getting the kids feel special
Went for my birthday dinner with my husband. It's a small restaurant, but very nicely decorated. The food and service were excellent. We had the mozzarella en carozzo, which was perfectly done...it's easy to have this turn out soggy, but theirs was fabulous. I had Chicken Frances, which was wonderful, as was my husband's grilled calamari. And we shared an excellent bottle of montipulciano wine. A great evening, and I would highly recommend this for a nice evening out. They also have a large room at the back of the restaurant, perfect for a group event.
This is my wife and my favorite restaurant in Bethesda and has been for 15 years. The owners, Harry and his son Corey, give diners the best bargain in town. Their menu is universally excellent, from chicken to veal, and from pasta to seafood. A large healthy salad comes with every meal. Corey is there almost every night and is a very friendly and warm presence. The wait staff is knowledgeable and not overbearing. Two garages make parking reasonable on this side of town. I will continue to patronize them as Bethesda changes in size, scope and noise and you should too!
Dropped in for comfort Italian before a show at the Bethesda Blues and Jazz Club. Couldn't have been finer for the occasion. We were booked early and so had the back dining room mostly to ourselves. Waitstaff quietly attentive, food hot and tasty from the kitchen. We love neighborhood places that are completely dependable and cozy. We don't need surprises when out for the evening. Chicken Piccata just right with the lemon and capers. Long may this little gem live!
This is a great neighborhood restaurant. Food and service are consistently good and it is a great value.
Friends were in town with 2 grandchildren (13 and 10), so we met for dinner here. Everyone loves Italian, and everyone was able to get his or her favorite dish or try something new. They even allowed one person to substitute the side pasta for Risotto when asked. We went in with 6 on a Friday night at 6:30, were seated immediately at a nice table in the front (the kids could watch people go by), and service was excellent. Noise level was not a problem at all. Highly recommended!
We had a really nice meal. The restaurant was bustling, cozy, and great greeting. The service was excellent and food was very good.
Nice neighborhood gem! Great for a casual gathering!
The food was generally excellent: The grilled calamari was fresh and prepared to perfection, as was the fried calamari... in sum, a delight. The ravioli was simply delicious, with very good balance of spices and cooked just right. Only one false note: the spaghetti carbonara was wayyyyy overpowered with garlic, so I will remember to ask that they prepare it without it, as that just ruined the experience of this one dish for me. That said I know there are some who would welcome the abundance of garlic, so perhaps just a matter of taste. In any event, I think it fair to rate our dinner at this really nice restaurant as a solid 4 out of 5 stars. We left extremely satisfied and were it not for the Carbonara's it would be a solid 5 out of 5. I highly recommend it to all Italian cuisine aficionados. You will enjoy dining there for sure.
