About La Panetteria

La Panetteria has been a Bethesda Landmark for more than 35 years. It has won accolades from food critics and many loyal customers for its superb menu and impeccable service. Cozy, old-fashioned Italian restaurant, serves both northern and southern Italian specialties, with homemade pasta, fresh seafood, veal and chicken dishes and best white pizza in the area. The restaurant invites diners in with a tree shaded street front awning, and an Old Italy atmosphere enhanced by a sunlit indoor atrium with graceful hanging baskets and period paintings on white washed stucco walls. The ceramic tile floor and white tablecloth complete the ambience of a true trattoria. The menu is extensive and features a wide variety of classic Italian dishes, plus daily specials like risottos, veal shank, seafood lasagna, rolattini and Zuppa. If you have a favorite Italian dish you will find it on the menu. La Panetteria means ‘the bakery’ in Italian and all the bread is baked fresh daily.

Ordered the lamb shank with mushroom risotto. The lamb was very tender and fell right off the bone. We ordered the tirimusu for dessert which was also good. Would g back here although it seemed empty for a weekend night which was a little disappointing.

Great Service & Home Style Cuisine:
We went to La Panetteria for a going away lunch for a large group of people. The service was very accommodating to the people coming and going. The food was good and everyone left full and happy - which is often a challenge with our group that includes extremely timid eaters and very adventurous eaters.

Been here 3 times now and has always been consistently good. I always order the linguine vongole and it is delicious. It is also nice to go with a friend because you can talk. It is not horribly loud, actually quite quiet and pleasant. Service is great as well.

La Panetteria is always a sure thing. Food is good, service is outstanding and the value is great. It's our go-to neighborhood for a great plate of pasta or a fish dinner.

Restaurant has continued to meet its high standards of the past several decades. Food is excellent. Only downer is the bread that is only so so and not equal to the bread at other Bethesda restaurants.

Had the eggplant dish with spinach and ricotta with a side Caesar. Very good and very filling. Great place to sit and enjoy a long, pleasant evening with friends. Never felt rushed but we were still very well attended to by the wait staff. They were not intrusive in our conversations but rather very considerate. A truly enjoyable evening.

Great late night find. Home made Italian fare. Melts in your mouth. Food was great as was the service. All the dishes are reasonably priced and was a great find. We would come back again.

La Panetteria has been a Bethesda for many years. It does traditional Italian very well. The staff is attentive and the prices are reasonable.

I wish they did something small for a birthday. This was OK for an Italian dinner. I would not recommend the mozzarella appetizer but the lasagna and chicken parm was good.

My boy friend and I went to this restaurant on a Sunday night to celebrate our anniversary. The scenery is romantic and the service is stellar. The bread served is delicious and so is the 'special' salad dressing. If you have room for dessert consider the chocolate mousse.

We've always enjoyed La Panetteria. Our waiter was an old pro and very personable. Also I applaud him for not taking away empty plates until everyone was finished with their meal. We'll be back soon. Thank you.

We were in the area and read the reviews so we decided to give it a try. We weren't disappointed! Love the ambiance! Yummy bread!
The dinner salad house dressing was wonderful! We had the Crab/lobster ravioli (DELICIOUS!) and salmon. Salmon was good but needed a little moisture-- maybe even just some lemon. Nice wine selection.
Great service. It was quiet that night but it was a mid-week night. I imagine it can get a bit louder on the weekends.
We will definitely come again!

It was a very nice menu with delicious food. It has charming old world Italian ambience. The servers were attentive and friendly. But we asked several times for the AC to be turned on. The servers were sweating, so it seems like a problem for employees as well. It impacted my meal to see them uncomfortable as they worked so hard to take care of us.

Wonderful food, great service provided by Jessika and the rest of the staff, and a great value. One of the few restaurants still providing a salad as part of the meal's price. A very enjoy, neighborhood gem.

La Paneterria is the restaurant we took our son to as he graduated
from Pyle MS in 2006. We took him again when he graduated from WWHS in 2010. And again when after matriculation from UMD in 2014. And again Friday when he received his Masters from Georgetown. The staff is accommodating , the food is terrific and it's a great place to hold a family gathering, or an intimate dinner

Mothers Day is usually a very busy time for restaurants, when service and attention to details may get less attention than usual. But even though the restaurant was packed...with a line of waiting diners out the door, our experience was terrific. The owner and staff were attentive and the food was delicious, as usual. We love this neighborhood restaurant and look forward to returning early and often.

La Panetteria features an extensive menu and exquisite food, with desserts to die for. We will be returning to try more of the pasta dishes and, of course--to finish everything off with more dessert!

This restaurant is under the radar. It is a real neighborhood gem. It is the best value in the DC area for authentic Italian food at a great price. The owners and servers are lovely and accommodating. The ambience is enjoyable as you feel like you are in an Italian trattoria.

Everything was good except for the Grouper special dish that I ordered. The fish looked and tasted like Monk Fish not Grouper. Typically, Grouper is flaky and this fish was very firm, like monk fish. We asked the waited and he said the chef denied that it was not grouper.....everyone else's food was good and we had a nice experience so rather than make a scene, I politely disagreed and told them I was disappointed. Also, it was my birthday and I was surprised that they did not make any effort to remove the dish from the bill or at least offer a free dessert.

We went here at prime dinner time. This was one of our many visits and our favorites are the fish and seafood items. I ordered trout and my husband branzino. The salads were nice and fresh and they have a great house dressing. The entrees this time were just so-so. It did not help that we both were just getting over colds and where we were sitting in the front of the restaurant was uncomfortably cool.

Serves very good Italian food. Prices very reasonable for Valentine's Day and they didn't try to gouge their customers on a major night out. One of the few restaurants that still includes a tasty fresh salad as part of the meal. Very enjoyable place to dine.

The service at this little Italian restaurant is superb, but it cannot overcome the basic decor and average food. While some dishes approached delicious (seafood risotto), most were simply pedestrian (eggplant parmesan, osso bucco), and some were odd and disappointing (side salad). We wanted to like this place as a neighborhood haunt but found we are not inclined to return.
