About La Panetteria

La Panetteria has been a Bethesda Landmark for more than 35 years. It has won accolades from food critics and many loyal customers for its superb menu and impeccable service. Cozy, old-fashioned Italian restaurant, serves both northern and southern Italian specialties, with homemade pasta, fresh seafood, veal and chicken dishes and best white pizza in the area. The restaurant invites diners in with a tree shaded street front awning, and an Old Italy atmosphere enhanced by a sunlit indoor atrium with graceful hanging baskets and period paintings on white washed stucco walls. The ceramic tile floor and white tablecloth complete the ambience of a true trattoria. The menu is extensive and features a wide variety of classic Italian dishes, plus daily specials like risottos, veal shank, seafood lasagna, rolattini and Zuppa. If you have a favorite Italian dish you will find it on the menu. La Panetteria means ‘the bakery’ in Italian and all the bread is baked fresh daily.

The setting was family-friendly and pleasant but the fare was decidedly average and belied the restaurant's reputation for offering value-for-money, traditional Italian food.

THis is a great place for casual traditional italian food in a lovely setting. Staff is friendly and rooms are nicely decorated. Prices are reasonable as entrees include salad and or pasta and vegetables. We love traditional veal and eggplant parmigiana. They also do more ambitious fishes and veal dishes. Lovely dining experience.

You can't go wrong here.. AUTHENIC! The Frutti deMare with White Sauce was the best I've ever had. Drinks were a tad weak but when I said something.....WOW! Made up for it.

I flew in from Boston and met my family here. We had the best seat in the house- by the open french doors. The weather was beautiful, the food was amazing, the ambiance was authentic, the service was top notch. We all loved our meal, and we all said we're coming back again.

Had dinner with my daughter and her fiancé. We were seated promptly and our waitress was excellent. We ordered calamari and a white pizza for apps. The pizza was excellent but the calamari was overlooked and too chewy. We had 4 different entries. The leg of lamb was ordered med rare. We were surprised when the dish was served and there were three slices of lamb. Two of the three were very thin and well done. This dish was returned to the kitchen. I had linguine with fungi and shrimp. The pasta and mushrooms were good but the shrimp was over cooked. The other 2 dishes were prepared properly

We have eaten at this restaurant many times over the years and this was the first time we were disappointed. Not sure we we go back

From the moment we arrived, we were treated as if we had been there many many times. The atmosphere was gracious, warm and hospitable. We loved the food, and the service was attentive, but not obtrusive. phun2dine

I have been going to La Panetteria for years - it is just a few blocks from my home - and the food and service are always exceptional. And you absolutely cannot beat the value. I have brought friends there several times and they also love it. Just as good for dinner as it is for lunch. I have truly never had a bad experience there.

La Panetteria is a standby for us which we have visited frequently over the past half dozen years. We enjoy the food and attentive service. We always start with the fried Zucchini and often order off the nightly specials menu for our entrees. This time we both ordered the crab & lobster over linguini special. Two glasses of house wines each plus a shared dessert and the total bill was under $100....good value.

Wonderful Food and Excellent Service from Jessika. One of the few restaurants that still offers a salad with dinner. Food was wonderfully prepared and Jessika provided prompt, efficient service.

First, it was noisy and stuffy.
Second, my server called me Chinese. Twice.
It's like calling black people N word.
Third, wine glasses were dirty. They changed them, but again, they were all dirty. People didn't seem to care, but cleaning glassware is the absolute basic.
Forth, they gave me olive oil and some cheese, and I had to wait for about 15 mins to get some bread. My dish came out 1 and half hours later.

If someone asks me about this place, I would never recommend.

Oh... one more thing. Their wine list was not very impressive.

I have been going La Penetteria for many years for New Years eve. The prices are reasonable and the food is very good. The atmosphere is very pleasant and many of the diners come year after year. It is also a great place for a quiet dinner or lunch on other days.

We have made it our tradition for a family Christmas Eve Dinner here. The food, service, and ambiance are all excellent. And each year, we receive the warmest, most genuine reception. Our family has grown and changed over the years and the staff have been so gracious...with hard-of-hearing elderly and with high-energy little ones.

This is a lovely family restaurant, which has become a very special part of our Christmas tradition...in addition to visits around the calendar.

This is the first time Open Table misled us. We had all kinds of choices in Bethesda on Christmas Eve day, but chose this place based on its rating, believing it might be a hidden gem. Instead, it was iceburg lettuce salads and pasta in red sauce on a special occasion with family. Very disappointing. Service was gracious, but that's all I can say to recommend it.

Ordered the lamb shank with mushroom risotto. The lamb was very tender and fell right off the bone. We ordered the tirimusu for dessert which was also good. Would g back here although it seemed empty for a weekend night which was a little disappointing.

Great Service & Home Style Cuisine:
We went to La Panetteria for a going away lunch for a large group of people. The service was very accommodating to the people coming and going. The food was good and everyone left full and happy - which is often a challenge with our group that includes extremely timid eaters and very adventurous eaters.

Been here 3 times now and has always been consistently good. I always order the linguine vongole and it is delicious. It is also nice to go with a friend because you can talk. It is not horribly loud, actually quite quiet and pleasant. Service is great as well.
