Had my reservation but they seated other people claiming to have a reservation that La note didn’t have & couldn’t seat us.
Great restaurant! The French cuisine, the house red wine, and the ambience were all so delicious and such a complete experience!
Son home from college - a favorite spot
La Note Never ceases to amazing me whenever I come here. Thi is the first time I have been here for dinner, and it blew my boyfriend and me away. we started with the
Crotin De Fromage De Chevre Cuits Aux Noix which is terrific and I would highly recommend as a starting plate because of it light but fantastic to taste. For vegetarians, I recommend Ravioles Au Safran as an entree course and for meat eaters Steak Frites Persillade. Last for dessert; all the desserts are so good I would not recommend just one.
The design and atmosphere are perfect for a date night, and the service is excellent. 10/10 for everything this place has to offer.
My wife and I met a couple of friends here for dinner. We all enjoyed our meals, the ambience was good and the waitress was friendly and helpful.
There was a problem with the bill, which we only discovered after we'd left the restaurant (we'd been charged for an extra entree). This was quickly sorted out when we returned to show them the error. They even refunded the cost of one of the desserts for goodwill.
Overall, it was a good experience for everyone, although parking can be a problem in that area of Berkeley.
This was my second time at La Note. Each time the food, service and total experience was excellent. We also liked the live musician playing Flamenco guitar.
my reserved table was given away. my entree arrived with the appetizers despite specifically mentioning dish was being ordered ahead of time because of long prep time req'd and my date had not even arrived when I first ordered. Seafood stew was completely overcooked. Perhaps La Note should not pool all tips and the waitstaff would be more motivated to listen to the diners requests.
I've eaten here for breakfast and was quite impressed. I am said to say that I was left somewhat underwhelmed by the dinner food.
We had another amazing meal at La Note. The menu is always a delight and there are specials on the chalk board. The service was very good and attentive.
Horrible manager- very rude and sarcastic when we requested for a small accommodation on the bright spotlight lighting on our dinner table
I recently had the Daube Provencal entree at La Note; the dish was outstanding - a beef stew that was moist, tender and tasty. It was not a surprise since I have dined there numerous times, and the experience always merits repeating.
Authentic Provencal cuisine in a friendly and casual French cafe.
Food is well priced. Kind of French/Italian provincial.
Flavor is great. This place is simple home food fare.
This restaurant has excellent food with many tasty dishes available. It is also located right in the heart of Berkeley. We plan to go back again soon.
My husband liked his beef stew order but I hated my scallop and shrimp in crusty pastry. Large service fee of 20% which included only a partial tip was unexpected, but I was told many restaurants are doing that. Service was great and it has a nice ambiance. I just ordered wrong thing. Breakfasts are outstanding here.
Such a charming and delicious spot. It felt like we were in paris
Wonderful spot and wonderful experience! Great service, delightful ambiance, yummy food. This is the most charming, lovely little bistro. I live in the food mecca that is wine country and would give anything for a spot like this close to home!
Chicken dish was rather dry & butternut, sausage, veg lasagne had mashed potatoe texture. Otherwise, appetizer & pasta dishes were good. Very tentative service.
Food was fine. Service was fine. Owner was incredibly rude. She aggressively wanted us to change tables 2/3 of the way through our meal to accommodate a group of her friends. It left a really bad taste. Very impolite.
Went with girlfriend for dinner before a movie. A little pricier than usual for me, but definitely worth it.
La Note is a real gem. Ambiance enhanced by an accordian player playing romantic music in the background, great wait staff, scrumptious food, reasonable prices. Great for a date or to share a meal with friends of family.
Delightful place with very authentic French food. The mussels were amazing and my date highly recommended the “steak frites”. Will definitely return.
First time at La Note, chosen for its convenient location near Cal Performances at Zellerbach! Very good food indeed by the standards of the south campus restaurants. Seems to be a 'hang out' for local people a little older than students. Friendly and prompt service. Comfortably scruffy. When we arrived, the noise level was moderate despite the tuneless strumming of a guitarist at the side of the room. However, by the time we were actually eating, the noise was somewhat distressing; we could converse only by speaking very loudly as everybody else was doing. Restaurant noise is destroying the restaurant dining experience in the USA; we've just come home from three weeks in Spain and Italy, and we can testify that even crowded restaurants do not need to be painfully noisy.
The Bouillabaisse didn't have very much flavor although it was packed with plenty of seafood.
This is one of THE best restaurants in the East Bay. Worth the wait...but I recommend making reservations.
Steak frites is over the top every time.
Ratatouille is beautiful and mouth watering.
House wines are perfect and affordable.
Brunch is always good. Get the basket of baked goods with your coffee.
Friendly staff and appreciative kitchen.
Go show your love of local and dine here.
The food at La Note is exceptional! It is not "haute" in presentation or fussy in any way, but it is very very good. I had one of the best bouillabaisses ever and my husband's Bolognese spinach pasta was also very good, as was the salade d'endives. The house wine by the carafe was a good value. The menu is large and diverse, with numerous appetizer, sandwich, pasta, and entree choices and a variety of French wines (yes!). The only problem was the noise. The ambient noise is beyond energetic and La Note adds an accordionist, which delivers the decibel coup de gras. It was impossible to carry on a conversation. The overall energy level induced a coughing fit that took me fifteen minutes, a full glass of water, and another of wine to overcome. What to do? My husband is reluctant to return, despite the great food (and he loves French restaurants), because of the noise. Maybe we'll try booking for a night when there is no music and see how that goes. If loud noise doesn't bother you while you're eating, you will find a great meal here.
Fondant au chocolate was so good!!
I have enjoyed breakfast at La Note but when my friend suggested La Note for dinner ,I was interested.A musician playing French tunes was lovely.I enjoyed tasty mussels with French fries. The prices were higher than expected but service was excellent.
Very disappointed. Food was fair. Dessert inedible. Service good. I was upset however that a hidden surcharge of 20% was added to the bill. Like the bag and seat charges airlines stick you with. The manager explained it was to pay for employee minimum wages and health care which of course should be paid but not with hidden surcharges. Increase your prices to cover your costs and profits. I won’t be back
Everything was fantastic. The coctails, the meal, the ambiance! What more can I say??
I love La Note, however, the staff made several errors related to the order, beginning with bringing an incorrect entree to forgetting to add on entree to our bill. Service seemed confused and inexperienced.
Food-average, service-nice, wine- not so good, price- too expensive for what they offer. Go instead to Manresa, Los Gatos, for the same price but better experience !
La Note is one of my very favorite restaurants in the East Bay. The atmosphere is very French Bistro with country French decor and food. It is usually very busy, especially on weekends so make a reservation. It's loud but a good loud, people engrossed in conversation and having a nice time.
My date had the bouillabaisse which was brimming with fresh seafood - very large shrimp and scallops among other things - in a succulent tomato broth. I had my usual steak and frites - can't help it, I love the dish so much. We split an endive salad with walnuts and Gorgonzola, excellent. The salads are large so one split between two for a first course is perfect.
I don't know how we had room but we both ordered dessert. He had the profiteroles, stuffed with vanilla ice cream, drenched in homemade chocolate sauce and whipped cream. Be forewarned, two or three people could split this one dessert, it's huge . I ordered the chocolate fondant with whipped cream and raspberry sauce. It was stupid good and so rich I brought most of it home.
Note: a $9 the desserts look pricey, but they are seriously built for two. Bon Appetit!
I like the atmosphere inside of the restaurant.
Food is always top notch. Although, I'd avoid during a heat wave, as they have no AC and apparently no fans either.
The live guitar music really makes for a nice vibe and experience. Service was a little slow. It was a hot day outside, so it was unfortunate to learn that there's no air conditioning. They do an automatic addition of 20% gratuity split by the restaurant staff, so don't be surprised when you see the check.
La Note has a consistent menu and with that a consistent quality of meals served. The quality of service varies somewhat but generally is friendly and timely. Their "special dish" does vary somewhat in the quality of the meal served.
Love this place. Wonderful and affordable food in a pleasant room with attentive staff.
First time visit for wife and I; the mussels were superb. The wife's salmon dish was good, just not as creative or flavorful. Ambiance is a sort of a neighborhood eatery if the neighborhood were Paris' Marais district. Unpretentious vibe, very good service, an acoustic guitarist and the relatively small size of the room make for a noise level on the high side of moderate but not bad at all (and I do not like loud restaurants). Look forward to a second visit.
