Do NOT sit in the front windows on a summer evening. You will bake and become very uncomfortable. They do NOT have outdoor patio seating for dinner even in the summer; too bad.
La Note is a lovely restaurant with good food. The service is friendly, but it's slow.
I had heard great things about the restaurant for breakfast. Went for dinner to check it out. I think it was just ok....nothing special. Very basic french fare. We ordered the Camembert cheese appetizer and I thought it would be gooey and great....nah...weird consistency. The rest of the food was solid but as I said nothing really stood out. Wouldn't make a special trip here. That said the customer service was good and everybody was nice. This was a good thing because they automatically add 20% gratuity to your bill (as a general rule don't love this).
Fabulous food and great ambience! A bit noisy on a busy Saturday dinner time.
30 protestors were allowed in by the manager, followed by much shouting about animal rights. Manager never called police. 20% mandatory service charge not waived, because the manager did not see anything wrong with the ambience.
as always, la note provides an incredible meat coupled with exquisite service and an excellent atmosphere.
We have been going here for years. The breakfasts are outstanding - best omelet ever. Dinners are very good as well. Very popular with the locals. It is always busy. It is a fun place to go.
So French! Relaxed, casual, comfortable atmosphere, reasonable prices, good service. I noticed there weren't many on the wait staff. Daria seemed to be the only one there but we had all the attention we needed. I loved my food and the wine was especially good. They had a really nice acoustic guitar person there, it was perfect!
I love that one can get breakfast / brunch here as well as lunch every day! This was my first time here but definitely will not be my last!
Very nice restaurant, good ambiance, very good service, but prices considerably higher than comfortable, and that before 20% service charge is added. A simple sandwich and a glass of tap water should not cost $20 for one person.
Lovely spot for casual dining with distinctive, delicious food. Service was excellent, prices reasonable. Would certainly recommend La Note Provencal.
Good food and fun. Service is friendly but a bit slow
Has the feel of the perfect neighborhood bistro. So comfortable, great service, great food. I'll be back!
I want to give all 5s but the waitress forgot one of our orders completely, leaving one in our party with no food. She did, however, generously comp us a dessert. The food was great and the ambiance delightful.
No cocktails available but ample wine list. A few choices for vegetarians, which is always nice.
Lovely restaurant with outdoor seating as well, unusual breakfast combos and delicious freshly squeezed orange juice.
Very authentic French cuisine
Mussels were delicious. So was the boulliabaisse.
We had profiteroles for dessert which was perfect to share.
Great value and very pleasant room. Table was a little small for 3.
As good as ever! When I want to meet a friend for brunch or lunch, La Note is always my first thought. Never disappoints. The bread basket, for brunch, is outstanding. For lunch, I always choose one of the the large and beautiful (and delicious) salads.
The food was so good! The lemon gingerbread pancakes were one of the best things I've ever tasted!
An old favorite and better than ever! Lovely decor; cheerful servers; soft guitar music; serene, cozy atmosphere.
I love this restaurant! The more I go, the more I enjoy it. I wish it were a little quieter, but I'm moving more and more lunch meetings there after 1.
I really like the ambiance of the restaurant. The tomato bisque soup was very good. I had the Daube which was good but not special. I did not like the tipping arrangement at the place. They give you a long placard at the beginning of the meal letting you know that they include a mandatory 20% tip. The justify by saying 1/2 goes to the the server and the remainder to the rest of the help. Of course you can add more which will go only to the server. I don't know how other restaurants handle this, but I did not like this arrangement and felt it resulted in lack luster service from the server.
My last visit was more than 10 year ago, and the food was not very good. I returned with my wife on a Friday night to give it another try, thinking new change in cooks and continued good reviews. Well, we both were again disappointed. Wife had chicken sandwich and I the beef stew, and a cheese salad. All three dishes lacked savory taste. The beef stew was the worse, lacking any flavor at all. The beef especially was poor grade, and tasted like cardboard. The gravy was poor. So disappointed, will not return nor recommend.
Quite noisy in the main dining room. Our table was given away within 10 min as we were late. We called and were asked to go there anyways. We waited again about 10 min before we were seated.
Amazing food. But it seems everytime I go recently, they are out of the pastries, which are my favorite. I wish they would make more to last throughout the day!
The atmosphere is good.
Great food and a wonderful table for two
Ratatouille is superb! Pumpkin ravioli with fresh grapes?
Nice little spot, enjoyed our meal, casual and welcoming.
It was a dark and stormy night...La Note was a light in the darkness. The food was familiar and warm and nicely presented. The chicken in my special was overcooked, sadly. The lasagne of my partner was just fine. Ambiance and service helped us to be on our way to the theater without further ado. House wine is well priced and drinkable.
Over priced because of well known doesn't mean we have to pay $50 for light breakfast for two
Delicious reliable food, well prepared with attentive staff
Only disappointment was so many menu items were out. It was 9pm though.
Love LaNote! Beware a 20% tip is automatically charged but we were not noticed verbally or in writing!
The food we were served lacked flavor, a stew that was watery and the service was slow. We could not get a waiter to refill the water pitcher at our table for most of the meal. On top of this they automatically added a 20% tip to the bill without warning you on the website or menu before hand, just small print on the bill. We will not be going back.
This restaurant never disappoints! I try to eat there every time I visit the Bay Area. Weekend brunch on the patio in warm weather a must, food is delicious, especially the pancakes. Everything, really. This trip I had dinner - was remembering the tasty slow-roasted chicken, which changes with the seasons. It was prepared with plums and cous cous this season, excellent.. My server, Daria, was the best! So friendly and accommodating, I felt very comfortable dining there alone. My favorite Berkeley restaurant.
The birthday celebration was wonderful. The food and service excellent! The only improvement would be less noisy and more space between tables. It was a little difficult to hear conversation
The hostess is ill mannered so that's your first impression. They impose a 20% surcharge and once your food arrives, you'll never see your server again. The menu is limited and is more fit for a cafe food than a restaurant. It's fine but definitely not a place for business lunch.
Service left a bit to be desired. Our server seemed to disappear for long periods. Soup was served too hot to eat. Table crammed into the window space should have been for 2, not for 3, our party. Given we made a reservation, was not a great table for us. BUT food was very good, will go back.
Very crowded and noisy. Food was good, but not outstanding. Good value, but not a place for a quiet dinner
