fabulous food. our second visit, and the food was as good as the first time. we recommend the celery salad, gnocchi and cornish hen.
Tasty dishes with a 'homely' feel...Portions too small. Bread would have been better if warm. I had the beef ravioli which was very good. The tapas dishes is an excellent idea although meatballs were not what I had expected and were rather bland. Risotto balls were better. Espresso panna cotta for dessert was the best.
Place was Awesome, Service was awesome! Food is amazing!
Enjoyed the Chef on Wheels Piedmont Bike Trip preview. We like the special events that the restaurant puts on. Adds another dimension to the great food and wine.
Violette cocktail had a floral, refreshing taste like green tea. A chef's gift of pan-fried focaccia with parsnip whip had a yummy bacon flavor. Delicious homemade bread and ricotta. Grilled escarole (endive) special with fried egg and hazelnuts - DIVINE! Second, primi pastas: Bolognese (so rich with wine and meat he wished for more sauce) and sunchoked agnolotti (sunflower heart tasting of artichoke pureed with ricotta and stuffed in pasta) - HEAVEN! Shared the skate wing and it was like a tasty pan-fried white fish. Desserts were sampled and ranked: 1. Cassata Cake (A), kumquat filling + cake + chocolate = love; 2. Hazelnut Tart (B), very Nutella; 3. Pistachio Semifreddo (C), a pistachio frosting; 4. Espresso Panna (D), a coffee flan.
Fabulous! We stop there on our way to BSO and always have a delicious meal, attentive wait staff and wonderful wine! The best Italian food I have had in a long time -- creative-- no need to go to the North End. And they offer half portions that are perfect!
Absolutely loved the meal and whole dining experience.
We have eaten here before and always enjoy it. I wasn't crazy about the hanger steak - was recommended to get it medium rare and it was too tough for my taste. Ambiance good but cold downstairs with door opening. Some of the wait staff were very loud when talking to other customers which intruded a bit.
We had a special occasion and had dined at this restaurant several other times . Unfortunately we were very dissappointed . The special guest ordered the pre fixed menu so he could try a variety of items . The plate not only came out cold but looked like it had just come off a buffet line . We sent it back and told our wait person not to re warm it . Also told her not to package it up to take home . For all our trouble we were offered a free dessert and an after dinner drink ! All we wanted was a good meal like we had previous .I believe the owner/chef was off that night which is fine but his staff should be better trained in the kitchen and service area .
My husband and I have been going to La Morra at least once a week for the last five years, and love it. The food is delicious and the service is friendly. I like the fact that I can get certain of their dishes in half portion size. I've been to the chi chi places in the South End, and La Morra gives those places a run for their money.
We had a gift certificate for the prix fix menu for two so we had 2 choices for all of the courses so my friend and I ordered one of everything so we could share and try it all.
The portions were very generous at each course so there was certainly plenty of food and it was all prepared to order, crisp on the greens and nice and hot when it was supposed to be. It was delicious, we didn't leave anything on our plates because of that. Our server Hillary was outstanding and the restaurant was very comfortable and homey, we didnt' have to yell, the way it should be when out for dinner. I will definitely reccomend it to friends and certainly will go there again soon. Oh, the desserts were wonderful too, decadent as a matter of fact!
If there were more stars in the rating, this place would get them. I heard of this place from a TV segment of 'The Chronicle'. I was not disappointed and will return.
This is the second time we have been to La Morra. The first time we were upstairs and didn't notice the noice. This time we were downstairs near the windows and the noice was loud. Hard to talk across the table
This was a fantastic place for a great meal. The food was spectacular and the service friendly but not bothersome. We can't wait to go back!
Our server was terrific. The wine list interesting and the food was really yummy!
Tasting menu is a great idea, but overall, each course seemed to miss the mark. The one standout was the mushroom lasagna.
Very relaxing; terrific food and warm, friendly service.
Service was great. The prices were good. Loved the fried olives. We had the flank steak and veal. While both were good my recommendation would be to go with the veal
did not like anything - very very disappointed..horrible service..waiter with big time attoitude!
My wife and I love this restaurant. Even though we live nearby in Coolidge Corner, we only recently discovered it after it appeared in Boston magazine. We have been in twice in the last 2 weeks (1 of those on Valentine's) and have been impressed both times. Having somehow missed this gem for so long, I would probably suggest that they focus more on getting the word out, however, to be honest, I selfishly hope it remains somewhat off the radar so that we don't have too much trouble getting a seat at the bar.
This was my second visit and I was a bit less impressed with the food. The bread was dry -- not a good start! The ricotta accompanying it was a bit bland. We were served a complimentary taste of a smoked cheese appetizer, which was nice. The salad with cabbage and pomegranate seeds was as good as I recalled, but the shrimp salad wasn't as quite as tasty (shrimp a tiny bit mushy.) Our two pasta dishes were very good, although the bolognese, which I'd heard was a favorite, wasn't terribly interesting. Excellent wine by the glass. The service was warm and helpful from everybody, as always. A nice place for a special dinner. Hope to give this place another try, as the food was better on my first visit.
limited menu with unique offerings, heavy with brussle sprouts, not too accomodating with substitutions...offered grilled leeks but no kind of potato?
La Morra was a great spot for a special birthday dinner for 5. The food, service, and ambience - all outstanding! Thanks La Morra!
Food was amazing. The gnocchi with braised oxtail was insanely good. Boyfriend had the steak (smoky and delicious), and I had the skate (tender and buttery). The only thing we didn't like was that we felt a little exposed and claustrophobic at the same time in the middle of the loud dining room, but the food was so good it didn't end up mattering.
Excellent service to go with some great food. I felt it could have used a bigger selection of pasta dishes but was overall very good!
Fabulous food. Wait staff very accomodating. Tables are quite close together.
La Morra is hands down one of my favorite restaurants in the city. I've only been twice but immediately fell in love on my 1st visit and couldn't wait to return. I urge any family member/friend who hasn't been there to make a reservation ASAP! The menu options are fantastic; you can make it a tapas style evening with their Cicchetti menu, have an app/salad and a 1/2 portion of pasta, or order a full 3 course menu and finish with an entree. The options are endless and I'm already thinking of who I can take there next...
Fabulous food in a very warm setting - had a group of four and outstanding food all around. Server Katie was highly knowledgeable about all the offerings and made great recommendations - we will be back!
This was our second time at La Morra, our first during restaurant week. We enjoyed our first visit enough to come back, but this time far surpassed the first in food and service. We ordered the Prix Fixe menu with wine pairing, supplemented by one Cichetti special. The food was exceptional, most notably the secondi (orechetti with walnut pesto, roasted brussels sprouts and a sprinkle of pecorino) and contorni (hake with a ragout of artichokes, sunchokes, parsnips, and crisp pancetta) courses. Absolutely outstanding. During both visits to the restaurant our servers were helpful and attentive. Both were interested in the food itself and approached guiding us from the vantage point of people who cook themselves. Kudos to La Morra!
Food was good. we went there on a very busy night and there is very little room to wait for your table. It is basically a single family Brooline house converted into a restaurant. When two chairs at the bar became available, we were asked to vacate them because people were "waiting for these two chairs before us!"... Parking is tough but they have valet.
While everything was scrumptious, the skate and cod were fantastic. The bolognese sauce is unique and delicious!
The food was great but the service super slow, that made the experience less enjoyable.
La Morra is place with excellent food and service. The ambience is a cozy and casual.
Amazing...very memorable. My husband and I have been many times and we're always wow-ed by the food (the pasta bolognese is to die for!). Great wine 'by the glass' list, too! Very friendly and attentive staff.
Althought the main course was a little slow to reach the table, the service was informative and dutifully apologetic (and was excellent overall). This is one of my favorite "special occasion" places and it did not fail to live up to expectations.
Food and service were excellent.
I love LaMorra. I have gone here with friends and others for the past few years and have never once been disappointed. The food is consistently delectable, the service is attentive but not intrusive, the atmosphere is trendy but cozy. It's a good experience - I recommend the small plates and smaller portions of pasta/risotto, etc. so that you can sample more things.
I was so impressed-from our knowledgeable and friendly server to our delicious meal-everything was wonderful. I had the best mix drink of my life and our server set up some wine tasting because the night was early and she had time. It was a great experience and I've been talking about it for day's.
Truly one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. From starter to dessert, from service to atmosphere, one word comes to mind: exceptional!
We had the vegetarian option which was chef's whim. It was EXCELLENT!!!
