La Morra Ratings and Reviews
We ordered the chefs prix fixe menu. The arugula and kale salad was amazing, however there was some confusion at first as we were brought the wrong salads. We are glad the manger came out and apologized, still was a little awkward because the wrong salads were not removed immediately. The rest of the meal was great, we were full, but saved room for, desserts, of coursem. Service was knowledgeable and attentive, except as noted above. The rigatoni that followed the salad and meatloaf dish entree were both delicious..we had to take some home! An unexpected gem in Brookline.
Excellent food, mixed bag on service. The menu featured excellent versions of both traditional (e.g. pasta Bolognese) and imaginative (e.g. "lasagna" of layered polenta and rabbit) dishes. The waitress was very knowledgeable about the dishes and gave good advice on food and wine. However, I arrived ahead of my party, was seated by a friendly maitre d' and then ignored for 15-20 minutes without offer of a drink, much less bread or water. There was an interminable wait between entrees and main courses (and between primi and secondi for the person who ordered the tasting menu) -- I think they forgot about us. That, of course, could have been the fault of the kitchen rather than servers.
We had a fantastic time celebrating my wife's birthday at La Morra. Service was impeccable, especially our waitress and the sommelier who helped find us the perfect bottle of wine to fit our tastes. We wound up re-ordering another round of the delicious arancinis since they were so good, and the bolognese was absolutely fantastic. We will be back for sure! Thank you!
Several of our dishes came in cold. The food selection is somewhat limited, in particular the appetizers. The service was great and the staff very attentive. One bathroom wasn't working and that fact was noticeable due to the smell outside the door. These things happen of course but unpleasant nonetheless.
Wow. How is it we haven't tried this place sooner? Went for a night out with DH. Everything was excellent: the food, the service, the wine. We each started with a small plate (I loved the Arancini), followed by an appetizer (the Insalata Tagliata was light and flavorful) , and then we both had full portions of the amazing Tagliatelle Al Ragú as a main course (Outstanding and very rich--leftovers made a great lunch today!). We will definitely be back to sample the rest of the menu and the cocktails!
La Morra is a great mix of classic and creative Italian cuisine. Most of the dishes have some kind of twist on the traditional but stay true to the roots. Pasta is cooked to perfection and the dishes all have good flavor.. The menu changes frequently so you really get seasonal menu items and ingredients. Portions are very good and the antipasti and chiccetti menu are a great way to indulge a little bit too. This is such a great neighborhood gem!
The food was delicious. We even got a special goat cheese appetizer from the chef and some sparkling wine for our anniversary. Our waitress was new and not experienced with the wine list, but she did the right thing and asked another waiter to help her. She was really nice the entire time. Food came out hot and delicious. Definitely recommend.
This is a very friendly restaurant. Easy going and the food is really good. I had a root veggie salad and duck confit which were very good- all seasonal. The desserts are really good, my poached pear was excellent. My husband had Tom Brady's favorite pasta with meat sauce and started with a cabbage salad. He's fussy about wine and said that the wine that he had was very good red wine.
After hearing positive things about La Morra, we decided to go for our anniversary dinner.
It was awful! Some of the food was just ok, but my entree came long after my husband had finished his meal and it was GROSS.
Supposedly, there were issues in the kitchen with a chef not showing up, but we were not compensated in any way for this unpleasant situation on our anniversary, no less!
I've been meaning to try La Morra for several months now, but it wasn't easy to get a reservation at this very popular restaurant. Having finally visited, I am puzzled by the rave reviews. The food wasn't bad, but it was quite simple and unimaginative. If their pasta is homemade, I couldn't taste the difference from a dry box pasta. Worst of all was the service. I told our server when she was taking our order that we had to leave in 1.5 hours to catch a show. We haven't seen her after that; not even once did she check on us. We ordered a pre-fix with wine pairing, but our wines arrived at different times than the dishes they were supposed to accompany - sometimes before and sometime after. Despite the fact that we had 1.5 hours for dinner, the first course (a simple salad) arrived after 30 minutes from the time the server took our order. After an hour and a half, we got the entrée. At that point, I told the (very nice) guy who brought our food that we didn't have time for dessert wine, but would like to have something chocolate for dessert and a check. He came back with banana tiramisu (chocolate?) and a check, and then left. I had to get up and literally chase down our waitress for her to run the credit card. It's possible that service isn't always this poor at La Morra and we just got unlucky, but the food wasn't memorable enough for me to give it another try.
