La Mezzaluna Ratings and Reviews
A table in the front window was pleasant and quiet. All the staff are very attentive, and good-natured. They know their menu and make helpful suggestions. The calamari as appetizer, shared for 2, was reliably tasty. Trenette with eggplant, fresh tomatoes, basil, mozzarella was fresh and light and deliciously spiced.
On our many previous visits, the service was very efficient and attentive. On this night, however, the restaurant seemed understaffed. We had long waits between courses, and just barely got our coffees and cappuccinos before we had to leave for a performance. This despite having left 90 minutes ++ for dinner, and having alerted our waiter when we arrived that we had a time certain departure.
Excellent flavors. My wife had the veal chop special. Done perfectly. I had the pork Osso Bucco on a bed of risotto and was phenomenal. Our primi piatti was a shared order of papardelle with wild boar ragout that was very tasty. Service was friendly and attentive.
The most classic Italian Restaurant in Princeton. The menu is always new and fresh. The waiter, Willie, is outstanding. To top it all, Chef Michael Moriello if he’s around, would get out of his way to come to your table to acknowledge you and your guests. This is classic beyond classic.
Not the greatest experience. We got attended by 3 different servers and there was miss communication starting with our drinks. They read off a million specials for the night which should have been our clue not to order that. The fish that we ordered was not what we were told it would be and on top of that came out raw. Only positive out of this experience was that the pasta was good. Very unorganized - not worth the hassle. There are better Italian places in the area- will not be coming back.
Gluten free pasta available - always a great plus for my husband. The four cheese risotto was very rich and my daughter described the cheese combo as "weird" though okay. I loved the special (Flounder Francese) with shrimp and bruschetta over spinach. My husband described the boar topping as "ordinary" but he enjoyed his meal. Fourth entree was eaten completely but I didn't get feedback (vegetarian risotto). Caprese salad was ordinary but that is ordinary in a good way (balsamic reduction so not soupy and plenty of basil). Lots of items and lots of ingredients, perhaps a simplification would be helpful here, but they are trying to be creative (or the chef is very energetic). Service was solid - water refilled into soda glasses by a busboy at one point but best to have plenty to drink than not. BYOB and there is a liquor store next door if you forget.
We had a lot of fun. Our waiter was a real personality, a funny guy and quite efficient. I thought the food was fine but not outstanding. The Caesar dressing was more like a creamy italian, not a real Caesar and my veal ossobuco was quite tough. Because the overall experience was fun and nice and the service was good, I'd go back. I just wouldn't go running for the food.
Dinner here on Saturday October 14, 2017. Seated quickly with reservations. Started with Appy special crab ball, shrimp ball, lobster ball with dipping sauce. Also meatball appy.
Meals were a Chicken Dish and the gnocchi Bolognese off menu. Very good and flavorful.
Desserts were Crème Brulee and Tiramisu which was especially delicious. Waiters were attentive and courteous. Atmosphere is lovely. Parking can be tough in Princeton at any time.
Would definitely go back again and highly recommend.
Requested a table with a view and was very pleased with a table by the window. For appetizers we ordered the calamari and pumpkin ravioli. I'm not a fan of calamari, but it was the BEST I've had (lightly breaded). Good appetizer portion to share. Disappointed with the pumpkin ravioli. It was fried and too oily. We both had the veal with sausage, potatoes and peppers w/marsala. It was excellent. Veal was tender. Sausage smooth not grainy. The marsala was flavorful and plentiful. Peppers were cooked! Would highly recommend. They offer a small dessert menu but enough to choose from. Restaurant is small, tables are close together which makes it difficult to talk and crowded. Wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Michael was charming. Stopped by our table to make sure everything was ok. BYOB! I will definitely go back.
Fantastic meal on Saturday night before a theatre performance at Mccarter. We started with artichoke francaise and polpette appetizers. The artichoke was so unique and tasty, meatballs were light and delicious. Would definitely order both dishes again. Then we had the pork ossobuco, meat fell right off of the bone, so tender, delicious gravy and risotto to top it off. Also had the veal with sausage, also very tasty, full of flavor. Cappuccino finished off the meal perfectly. Can’t wait to go back and try additional items on the menu. Excellent. Service was also warm, friendly and very efficient, a perfect night.
Overall enjoyable experience, with excellent, attentive service from William. Burrata salad was a highlight and though entrees were good (vegetarian risotto and trenette), they didn't quite match specials we ordered on a prior visit. The tables are close together and it can get a bit noisy, but this seems to be true of most restaurants downtown. This is a BYOB restaurant and there's a liquor store right next door.
Wonderful creative Italian entrees! Shrimp and roasted vegetable lasagna was delicious; and the red snapper and shrimp over linguine Putanesca style was heavenly! Ricotta cheese cake for dessert was delicate, just the right texture, and authentic. Waiters were professional, cordial, patient, polite and happy. We all had a great time celebrating our friend's citizenship and his engagement. We'd all go back again!
We love this restaurant. The food is always fantastic and the service is super friendly. It's a great place for a date or celebrating an event with family. The adults and the kids all love the food from the starters to dessert. The seasonal fruit flambé with gelato was amazing! It's our favorite place in Princeton.
The restaurant had a certain vibe that made one feel at home. The waiter was funny and attentive. The food was pleasing as well as the price that it came out to. The cheesecake dessert was a bit lackluster(tasted more like flan than cheesecake), however the entire evening was that much more special because of La Mezzaluna.
