Our favorite place for special get togethers. The food is excellent, and always superb service. :)
As always, the ambiance was perfect and the food was wonderful, with subtle, surprising twists which complemented the dishes perfectly. The owner came by our table to chat - a delightful lady - and our conversation with her truly enhanced our dining experience.
We booked an early dinner. The ambiance was wonderful, not the
Couldn't be more impressed. Mori's enthusiasm for the items on the menu, and then to find that enthusiasm is well earned, was just incredible.
Great food, reasonable prices, great host.
If you are not fussy about restaurants or dining, you will enjoy LMM. If you are a foodie, or fussy, you will hate it. While the overall food quality is good and our entrees were perfectly cooked, the content and format of the menu, and the decor, appear unchanged from the late 1980s. Sauces abound, many sweet. Fans of traditional French will find unexpected Swiss-Italian influences, but still some enjoyable mainstays (escargot, filet of beef with Bernaise). For the more modern diner, the few patrons and the tired decor may make for an uncomfortable experience. Although the staff try well to please and succeed with good humor, the interior appearance looks as if Gordon Ramsay is about to show up to rescue it. The large traditional interior dining room with shield chairs, rose-colored walls and chandeliers appears no longer in use; we were served in what should serve as the informal bar-lounge but has given way to be the main dining room. The room was barely a quarter full on a Saturday night. Go for comfort French food but be aware it may feel like it's about to close any day now.
way way way past its prime.......................not in this century
Great continental style food! Enjoy the quiet atmosphere to relax and have a nice conversation with a loved one, friend or business associate.
I was taking a work associate out for a Thank You lunch. We had a wonderful time and lovely conversation with the owner. What a gem - both the restaurant and the owner!!
The restaurant smelled musty and old. The food was not cooked properly and the duck was drowned in an overly sweet sauce. Looks like this restaurant is on it's last legs and just waiting for someone to buy the place and turn it into something new.
The food was good, service was OK, but overall a little disappointing.
We went for New Year's Eve. We send a message to the restaurant and even asked if they were going to have a special menu. Never got a response to the message, but a week before we were in the area and were told probably not.
That night, walking into the restaurant, nothing posted outside. Sat down and they handed us the special menu! Well 6 PM on New Year's Eve not much we could do (though we did see another couple who came in for drinks and left, so maybe we weren't the only ones taken by surprise).
The menu was good. I'm not a big fan of caesar salad but it was good. The only other option was a green chili soup that was good but a little too spicy for my taste. We were looking forward to the french onion soup and trying a few other things on the main menu.
The main dishes were excellent. We enjoyed the shrimp/mushroom appetizer too. And the desserts were good.
Overall we would go back, just not when they might have a special menu like New Year's, Mother's day or valentines Day
Wonderful brunch with girlfriend on a Sunday afternoon. Ask for the "Nun's milkshake." A very special treat.
Pleasant and charming ambiance . Some old world charm. Excellent food and excellent service. Very attentive and elegant Hostess . Every time my husband and I visit La Mere Michelle we are having a very pleasurable experience. The place is pleasantly quiet which makes it easier to carry on conversation with friends.
The occasion was my wife's 72 birthday lunch, just the two of us. There were groups of varying sizes in the room and noise was not an issue.
The atmosphere was friendly and calm, with just the right amount of attention by restaurant personnel.
The food was unbelievably good.
Holiday luncheon with six ladies and service was amazing and the food was very good. Something for everyone! We will be back.
The food is outstanding, classical french and continental cuisine. The owner Michelle is so considerate and gives each table personal attention to assure everything exceeds the customers expectations. Chef Mark prepares and presents each dish to emphasize the flavor and beautiful appearance so that the whole dining experience is wonderful.
Delicious food and friendly staff
I have heard for years (30+) about LaMere Michelle in Saratoga. My husband and I decided to give it a try for our anniversary. It was mid-week. Our first clue should have been when we noticed the parking lot was empty. It was extremely disappointing from the minute we walked in the door. There is no hostess; all you see are darkened dining rooms that are not being used as you enter a dark entry. You can't even see the kitchen. You have to find a waiter to seat you. When we walked in, the only other couple in the dining room laughing announced "We've been waiting for you!" i.e., the place was empty. My husband ordered a Cosmo. The waiter (no bartender) made it with what tasted like lemons - not limes. The waiter insisted they were limes; he brought them to the table to show us that they were still yellow. They were not a ripe lime color. I ordered the Wedge Salad; a 5 year old could have made it blindfolded. No crumbled blue cheese or no hardboiled egg consistent with a true Wedge Salad, just store bought dressing, bacon bits and iceberg lettuce. I ordered the crab cakes. One side was burned, the other was not. They were served burned side up. They were mushy. My husband ordered the duck. No big deal. Waste of a good duck. The vegetables were plain, overcooked, and mushy. We ordered the red velvet cake for dessert. It was dry. We assessed it was several days old. I sat next to a row of potted geraniums. They were dry looking, scant, and almost dead. A row of bright red, silk geraniums would have looked beautiful. Our table had old, ragged plastic place-mats on top of a white table cloth. My husband removed his place-mat only to find gravy stains underneath; disgusting. We paid and exited back through the empty dark entry. No one said 'thank you' or 'have a nice evening'... nothing. But our waiter was very kind, thoughtful and efficient. I felt sorry for him trying to make a living in such a tired looking old restaurant that offers over-priced, subpar food.
Very mediocre food. Lobster was chewy and not very good at all.
Food was average -- used to be really good 30 years ago!
Ambiance below average
Service - top
for the price don't think we will go back.
Always a wonderful experience! Enjoy the food and the owners are very welcoming & friendly.
Outstanding service and staff! Definitely will visit again.
Adore this restaurant and if I could, would eat here weekly! Love atmosphere and the marvelous owner, Michelle, who greets everyone as if lifetime friends. Maurice, the server and bartender, is a gem. There is no other place like this in the Bay Area. A landmark.
I took my boys here because they wanted to stroll along downtown Saratoga and. have French food. The food was good. The ambiance is perfect for a warm Sunday evening, open but cozy and quiet. Love the old homey atmosphere. The waiter was the best! Service was excellent.
True authentic French cuisine, the rack of lamb was amazing! Great food, very nice staff, and a nice wine list. We'll be back for sure.
Went there for Bastille Day hoping for a festive evening. It was empty and no enthusiasm or acknowledgement of the 14th of July. However, the food was very good and the service polite. Corkage fee was $30 which seemed higher than most other restaurants. Their wine list did not appear to be of high quality. However, the ambiance was very nice. The windows were open overlooking garden boxes with Geraniums and downtown Saratoga. Overall a very pleasant dining experience.
lovely. great service. met the owner who was charming.
Wonderful restaurant. We go there as often as we can for romantic delicious dinners
La Mere Michelle is our go to place for special occasions with the family or a romantic dinner for two. The staff is very friendly and go out of their way to offer a unique dining experience.
Great food and great service. Love this place with the outdoor/indoor eating.
Always our favorite for special occasions. Wonderful quality food. Not necessarily a huge menu but one that covers most tastes. Great sauces as you would expect from a French themed restaurant.
Long established restaurant with a feel of quality. Excellent French food - we enjoyed both of the two duck preparations on the menu. Good classic cocktails. Attentive, personal service in an attractive room. Not trendy.
Terrible service mediocre food and needlessly expensive
Steaks cooked to perfection. Cheesecake to die for. Service excellent as usual even though restaurant was busy for one waitperson. Owner is charming and friendly, appropriatelevel of attention without being invisible nor hovering/overbearing.
Old old old fashion... this place needs a serious remodeling... or overhaul
The food was French... was 20 years ago. Now honestly? I don't know....
Went here for valentines day and it was a terrible experience. When walked in some couple stormed out saying it was terrible, we should have done the same. We had reservations but still took a while to sit us. Staff would just walk by us and not even say a word, like we will be right with you. Service was also terrible, waiter basically ignored us the whole night. Water cup was empty for a while and no one even stopped by to refill. Food was also cold and terrible. My girl friend ordered soup and it was cold and tasteless when we got it. I ordered steak and it was undercooked, luckily I am ok with eating a little more rare. I was not given a steak knife to cut my steak, the waiter told me that the butter knife I had was sharp enough. Who gives you a butter knife for a steak? The couple next to us also ordered steak and he also had to return their steak for being so raw. I will never return to this place, it is terrible and dont know how it can survive in Saratoga next to all the other good restaurants.
Worst dining experience in my 50 years on the planet earth.
Went for valentines day. Took 15 minutes to be seated. Another 20 minutes to get a cocktail. Waiter kept bringing wrong food to our table. Two full hours after we arrived before we got our main course. We skipped dessert even though it was included in the prix fixe menu. Couldn't wait to get out of the place. I should have read and believed the other negative reviews. Be warned.
What a terrible experience. This place needs to be cleaned! The food was terrible.
My wife and I were one of three couples. Half the restaurants closed off and gave me the impression they were going out of business
