Great Little Italy Gem. Family style food and portions, nothing fancy, but not meant to be. You will not leave hungry, and the food is great. Big portions do not mask average food here. Service is spot on, the atmosphere is what you hope for.........Warm and friendly.
Girls trip to New York
Absolutely a great meal! Our only issue was, they do not honor reservations made on Open table during the feast of San gennaro. Didn't know this until I showed up to eat with my guest. Luckily it was on a Monday evening, so there were a couple of tables left. Other than that, it was a great visit. I will be back!
Excellent food and service!
We went out to dinner after a broadway show around 5:30pm on a Saturday and it was beautiful. The location is exquisite and so was the staff. No complaints. Food was outrageously phenomenal. Recommend chicken parmigiana and chicken marsala!! Rigatoni was to die for.
Every time we come to little Italy we eat here the sauces are excellent and the red sangria is great!
Food was delicious and service was pleasant. Definitely recommend
Great dining experience. Table was ready as promised. Staff was kind and attentive. Food was good and portions were appropriate. The 20% service charge automatically added was not a surprise but rather annoying. It held me back from tipping more! I guess the amount of tourists who don’t tip created this annoyance. Would highly recommend to anyone seeking good, authentic Italian American fare.
We were a party of 10...the service was amazing, the food abaolutely delicious and the entertainment was fun. All 10 of us loved our entree selections.
Wonderful evening sitting outdoors people watching on a lovely Saturday evening in NYC Little Italy!! Family style four course dinner is an incredible deal that gives you a variety of delicious appetizers, pastas n entrees!!! Service is courteous friendly n accommodating. Looking forward to another fun evening at La Mela!!!
We traveled from N.C. to NYC. This place was recommended to our group of 6. It was great food and service!! Will visit again. Lunch was a good deal!!
I was there with my family including two children. We sat outside. The waiter was perfect and I met John the Manager as well and he was a gentlemen. Thank you again for a nice meal
It's always fantastic!!! Every time we are in the city we go there for dinner!
As usual food good and fast service. Just a busy Sunday with noise and crowding.
Favorite place in Little Italy. Also stop here evey chance I get!
The food and portions at La Mela cannot be beat! They have the best food in Little Italy by far! The atmosphere is very authentic Italian! The entree portions are enormous which is why I wish they would offer half or smaller options because I'm usually traveling and not able to take food home with me. The service is also excellent. La Mela is a must go to whenever I'm in Manhattan!
Dads 90th Birthday party and it was great. Food and service are always top notch. Have been going to LaMela for over 30 years and would recommend it to anyone wanting a good meal and great service.
Delicious food, great service, wonderful atmosphere, and an extremely fair price for a restaurant in NYC
Food and service was great! We will definitely be back on our next trip to NYC.
Excellent authentic Italian food. Nice ambiance and good service
We dined here based on many Facebook recs stating that this was THE place to go for "family-style" portions and a fun atmosphere. Although the food was good, the portions were not the family-style that you get at Paesano's, Aunt Jake's, Toni's de Napoli or even Carmines- not by a long shot. My husband could've eaten the chicken parm dish by himself. A 20% gratituity automatically applied to your bill. IMHO, that explained the poor service and the fact that out waiter barely uttered one word to us. Although the food was good, we couldn't wait to leave.
Food was ok. Cost was too much for what was served. Loud and hot in the restaurant. Was just ok.
If you are near NYC and you don't have dinner hear, you are missing out. The food was fantastic - the portions were huge and the service wouldn't be better if it was my own grandmother serving. We had a large party that arrived in stages - we ate, we drank and we even had an up and down toddler - and the staff didn't bat an eye. It as a fantastic family memory and wouldn't have had it any place else! Kudos to Rock or waiter, and Paolo the bartender. They went above and beyond, even singing happy birthday with gusto!
I’ve been to La Mela quite a few times before and it was always great but the service this time wasn’t great and the food was just okay. I don’t know when it turned into a tourist trap but that is definitely the case now.
Restaurant was wonderful and reasonably priced.
We could not be seated until our entire party was present which was ok but, in the meantime I was directed to sit at the bar...with (2) 15 year olds....no thanks.
Overall we enjoyed it very much. Plus we met Butch The Hat!!!!
We’ve been going to LaMela for almost 30 Years! We were there when Mimo was owner. The food has not changed at all! It is always consistent which is amazing. You have to do the “Family Style” with a large group, it’s so much fun.
The place is nothing fancy at all, I mean plastic chairs;) but the food is so great we don’t care.
It is always a pleasure to go to La Mela. Family dinner there is an absolute must when we are in Little Italy. The food, the service are top shelf all the way, but the ambiance is friendly and welcoming. They always make us feel like we're at home.
I have previously eaten their for their 5 course meal that served family style and it was excellent but this time I went we just my son and he ordered a plate and I ordered veal marsala and the veal was so tough and I think I paid $32 for the plate veal is never supposed to be tough you should never struggled to cut it you should never struggled to chew it and I was very disappointed this time that I went
Big portions of food which is too much for one person. We were already full with appetizer itself. They should hv choices on small or large portion, so, customer coukd
choise theie preferres sizes. My pasta was $34, and I didn't even touch it. So, it was such a waste in every aspect. They shd advise customer that it's too much for non American eaters. Disappointed on that wastage matter. Their appetisers were yummy. Pasta, not my favorite
Second time to visit, just as Wonderful as the first. We arrived before our reservation by about an hour but they were still very accommodating. Delicious food, great atmosphere. Very much the little Italy experience. The penne vodka, omg, so good... Only one tiny suggestion - would have liked to have heard background music that suited the ambiance. It was top 40 pop type music. Sinatra, etc... would have been lovely. Still a lovely experience, however.
Eat here. This place is Little Italy! The veal is the best in the city.
Servers were not welcoming — they weren’t rude, they were just awkward, as if they had never waited tables before. The pasta entres were pretty good but the appetizers were not. The atmosphere was unfortunate — there was some sort of sausage hung from the ceiling (meant to look very phallic) that people could ring a bell from or something? It was strange and gross. We knew we were going to get a touristy and cheesy Little Italy experience here but thought at least the food and service would be worth it... but that was not the case. Would not recommend, especially in a city where great Italian food seems to be everywhere.
We decided to hit La Mela for my brother’s wedding anniversary. It was perfection. He said he couldn’t believe how perfect his anniversary dinner was. Good food, great atmosphere, perfect location.
Delicious food! I had the spaghetti and meatballs. Service was great and price is reasonable
Favorite restaurant in nyc
Hello, we arrived to the restaurant on time and they said we had to wait 20 minutes. The host gave us an attitude, did not recognize that we were neighbors, and was not nice about telling us that we had to wait. We were so disappointed because we are looking forward to eat at your restaurant and we ended up going down the street to another little Italy place.
The food was mediocre at best and the noise level very loud. Very disappointing considering it is in the heart of Little Italy and how long it’s been there.
One of the best restaurants in Little Italy. Would highly recommend it.
Fantastic celebration dinner at La Mela! We ended up with 16 people for dinner. La Mela was vet accommodating and easily fit us all together. Our server was incredible and was always there for anything we needed, especially more wine!😊. Can’t wait to go back!
