Went for a special birthday dinner on recommendation from friends who live in New York. ...coming from Boston we are used to great Italian food....The restaurant was crowded except for tables in back room..where we were seated tables were so close and cramped...table wobbled....ask to be moved...lots of four people tables but wouldn’t move us because we were two....we sat outside and the weather was cold....My friend wanted pasta with shrimp ..the waiter recommended a dish....sounded great....what arrived was thin spaghetti with a few calamari...a few clams...one prawn...you couldn’t roll spaghetti on fork because stuck together in one clump....she just ate a forkful ....too embarrassed to speak up....price was 46.50 for a dish of clumped spaghetti...price was not mention when he suggested dish...run don’t walk away from this restaurant....again we went to New York to celebrate special birthdays...not the experience we were looking for
Once again we were a party of two couples visiting following a show. We were seated promptly, the service was attentive without being intrusive, the food was wonderful.
A great place for dinner.
Excellent service, we felt very well looked after.
I had requested a quiet table, which they provided at the rear of the restaurant. The front part is quite noisy, but they table enable us to have a nice conversation with our friends without shouting.
Food and service first class
Very very good pre dinner lunch. And, very pricey....but we enjoyed it for a special occasion,
Lovely pre theatre luncheon
Great food and service
Service is exceptional.
No rushing to bus the tables.
Food is wonderful and the atmosphere positive and friendly.
Loved the salmon and the artichokes too.
Frisée salad great
Best rabbit dish I ever had
Wonderful food, great drinks and the best service!
loved it, very italian, the pasta is the best fresh made...
Have eaten at La Masseria many times with various colleagues and friends, we've only had very positive experiences. In fact, they just won the Best Pre-Theater Dining Award at Concierge Choice Awards in NYC. The staff is friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and wines. The dinner specials are abundant and unique - like the quail egg mushroom ravioli.
Love the food at La Masseria. Service is impeccable. It is a little pricey, but the portions are large and it is NYC after all.
Excellent in every way - I had a veal dish and my husband fish done to perfection !
The music was very loud. The appetizers were outstanding. 2 of the 3 entrees were sub par for the price we paid. The "white wine sauce" tasted like sauceless noodles. The Broccoli Rabe was quite overwhelming and not well balanced with the other ingredients. The ravioli was really good, that was a special.
Staff was very friendly and ready to serve
We have just returned from a 7-day stay in NYC...and the restaurant highlight was surely La Masseria. We ate there (twice!) several years ago on a previous visit, and it was the only restaurant that I had noted we would "have" to return to...so we did...twice (!) this trip as well. On this occasion, we had lunch on both visits to this absolute, absolute gem of a restaurant. If "La Masseria" is a "farmhouse", then this is the best farmhouse food we have ever experienced. Of particular note is the "gnocchi alla sorrentina"...I have eaten gnocchi many times in Italy and in North America, but this was almost certainly the best I have ever had...just 'melt in your mouth' exquisite. My wife and I feel this is one of the finest restaurants we have eaten at in our lives... 5 stars all around...highly, highly recommended.
I had a great plan for my girlfriends birthday. I was going to take her to a Broadway show, and before hand take her to an Italian restaurant(which is her favorite kind of food). I chose La Masseria because I saw that it was close to the theater we were going to. It seemed nice enough, but in the pictures it didn't seem to be the extremely fancy place that we ended up at. I set the reservation for 6 pm. My girlfriend and I got there around 5:55. We left the restaurant at 6:15. We felt such a hostile sense from the staff, and it seemed like they didn't want us to be there. After they got the food out within 2 minutes of ordering, we definitely knew that was the case. Not only that, but the waiter we had was very condescending. He did not even offer us a drink menu. After being there for a few minutes, I quickly realized that I just wanted to not be there. I was originally going to buy dessert, and most definitely a celebratory glass of wine for my girlfriend and I. I feel as if the staff completely ruined the birthday dinner for my girlfriend and I. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Terrific dinner and service. Seated exactly on time per our reservation. Restaurant is quite crowded in terms of space and noise level is high, but food and service was so great that those limitations weren’t problematic for our experience.
Fabulous restaurant for pre-theater dinners and lunches. The food was fabulous, loved the bread and lentil/oil! Our server, Guieseppe was outstanding!
La vera cucina Italiana(pugliese) a Manhattan. Senza compromessi, Italia 💯 %!!!!
Really, really great Italian food! A terrific dining experience!
What a fabulous experience !
The food was outstanding...homemade pasta
Our waiter was fabulous and an authentic Italian
Sorry we were too full for dessert
We are coming back !!!
Fabulous as always!!!
Service was excellent.Mychicken with mushrooms was dry and over cooked. I have had it here before and it was perfect. Noise level very high. The ravioli was wonderful as was was the loin of veal.We had a wonderful evening and will return again. Your wait staff and bus boys are friendly warm and welcoming.
Excellent Vongole.. enjoyed dining upstairs on the balcony.
Delicious lunch before theatre. Pasta was the best ever. Definitely want to go back for dinner.
Our dining experience overall was wonderful, however, our table for 2 was extremely tiny (approximately 24” x 24”) and squeezed in between other tables. It was the ONLY table of its size in the restaurant, and directly in the line of the kitchen door exit. Clearly we were taken advantage of as pleasant people/customers. This table should be removed from the floor of this upscale dining restaurant.
Our meal and server was outstanding! Thanks for this opportunity.
I’ve been going here for 10+ years and it is still my favorite Italian restaurant in NYC. Whenever I come to town I go and get the Gnocchi which is by far the best I have ever had. Seriously, other gnocchi are dense and flavorless. This is light and fluffy with a deep potato flavor. The veal Milanese is also a must. Expensive, but totally worth it!
Food is reliable and one of the best in the theater district.
La Masseria never fails to meet and exceed expectations every single time I've been and that is why its often my first choice and always my first recommendation!!
This was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. We were seated and waited on right away. We only had an hour to eat and get to show. Not only did they deliver, it was done with grace and they paid attention to each guest. I will definitely go back and recommend to all my family and friend. The food was delicious as well.
We were late for our reservation but they couldn’t have been nicer. The food was brought promptly and the service was warm, friendly and accommodating. We would definitely go back and recommend it to friends.
Very nice place with great food. We just got back from Italy and in this place we felt like we were right back there. Highly recommend
Food was fine. Would have enjoyed it if servers weren’t so snobby.
Wonderful evening to celebrate our anniversary.
We were stuffed in the corner of the balcony. We had a new waiter halfway through service who took our dessert order and forgot the cappuccinos. We were by ourselves and had to wave to the waiters below for service. The cappuccinos were comped. Food was pretty good. It seems like a good restaurant but someone wasn’t overseeing the dining room. We actually had to walk downstairs and ask for our check like we were at a diner.
It was an amazing time during lunch. The service was excellent and great.
