Italian
La Masseria Restaurant is inspired from ancient fortified farmhouses that in the Puglia Region of Italy are called “Masseria”. Executive Chef/Co-Owner, Pino Coladonato, grew up on a Farm in Puglia. He was forced to eat whatever was available but soon was tired of bean puree and decided to take matters into his own hands, creating new ways to use the same few ingredients. Now, with limitless ingredients to choose from, fava beans, chickpeas and lentils are still a core element in many of his entrees. Interior Designer Libby Langdon has created a warm, inviting dining atmosphere. Rustic and relaxed, with plenty of old world charm. Oversize iron sconces custom made from antique wrought iron gates punctuate the walls, and artful displays of antique farm tools mixed with various authentic Italian photographs all add to the farmhouse appeal. The 250-bottle wine list encompasses all regions of Italy with few of the best American and the rest of the world.

The food specials and choices were wonderful so it was not easy to make a decision on one thing. The service was friendly and excellent. Everything we ordered from our first cocktail to our last dessert was perfect and delicious! It has become one of our favorites!!

Knew we had a 7pm show. Never brought desert and waiter was unaware that we hadn’t received desert then brought it in a takeaway bag. Unbelievable for a $100 plus per person dinner. No apology and he seemed annoyed.

We have been coming here for many years. We had dinner here last week and all was well. I've had Sangria here at least a dozen times including last week and it was good. This time the Sangria tasted like Robitussin. It tasted like cough syrup, not in the sense of sweetness, but the actual taste! It was nasty. The rabbit and the eggplant were fine. The servers were congregated in front of the bathrooms and at the end of the bar, but didn't seem to be interested in refilling our waters or being attentive to the diners' needs. This is the first less than pleasant experience we've had here and we've been coming here for about 10 years. I hope this was a unique situation.

The service and food were outstanding. I had the bronzino and my husband loved the steak. Portions were perfect and prices very reasonable for NYC. We cannot wait to go back, for there are so many dishes on the menu that we want to try.

La Masseria is truly a gem. We came back again with a party of 8 after a Wednesday matinee and were seated at a large, quiet table in the rear. The service was excellent and as the staff knew we had been to (rather than were headed to) theater we were given adequate time to talk amongst ourselves. The food was excellent, the salads interesting, and the desserts traditional Italian but quite good. To me La Masseria continues to be the ideal before/after theater place to dine.

Food was excellent and all the pasta (we tried 4 different ones) were authentic and delicious.
We arrived 30 mins. early for our table as the theater let out a few minutes early and despite a brief wait of 15 mins., which they were polite about, they seated us when the next table became available. Tables for 4, although square, are a little small small once you have the water and wine glasses, cutlery and plates, etc. and are spaced quite close together which makes for 'cozy' or 'too tight' depending on how you look at it.
Bar was really hopping and there was little if any room to place yourself as we 4 waited for our table but happily that didn't last beyond 15-20 mins.
Must say I found the prices a bit on the steep side (veal Milanese with arugula is $55.00) and the fish selections were also on the high price side but I find that the case everywhere. Veal is advertised in a framed food critic review as being a specialty but all I could see was a veal chop. The wine was ordered by another in our party so I didn't observe the wine prices.
I'd return but maybe for lunch or during restaurant week when prices might be more reasonable.
Our waiter was very nice, discreet and efficient, but the busboys and food handlers seemed hurried and ruffled but in fairness, the restaurant was full and they were 'getting the job done'. All very serious...

Been there numberof times when in the city for a play .Food and service has always been great, the only concern would be the pricing on the wine .I can not for the life of me understand why the price for a glass of wine is so high .i can buy 2 bottles of wine for the price of the one glass.Thats why I never drink wine in the city.

We always come here for our annual trip to NYC. Our reservation was for 7:00 and it was quite crowded. As it got closer to 8:00 the pre theater crowd diminished. Always great food and drinks. There was no problem splitting salad and entree.

All was going good. We were a little late as NYC had many roads shut down in preparation for New Years and restaurant was accommodating. Service was acceptable and food was good. Where they fell short was the bill. Upon paying my $340 bill for 4 people with my prepaid Amex gift card I notice 15% was added to the preauthorization. When I addresses with waiter he said he did not know why that happened. The issue was if I were to tip the waiter It would now put me over the balance remaining on card. After speaking with another waiter and finally the manager they said they did not add 15%. I called Amex with the manager and he listened to the charge placed on my card. It was for $391 and not $340 as it should have been. The manager stated I would have to wait until Monday to resolve. Being very frustrated I decided to leave the tip in cash as if the issue was not caused by the waiter I did not want him to be at a loss. Few days later after speaking with AMEX I was told the merchant submitted the request for $391. Amex stayed the $51 additional was not processed as the merchant closed out the transaction 2 Fay’s later for the correct amount $391. A final note. The manger from restaurant Stated at times when they have parties who are international visitors they will preauthorize the tip for the server. But he insisted it was not done in this case. In the end what was a good meal turned into a frustrating experience where we probably would not return.
